Great Vise!
This is a great vise! Read the other reviews for all the great rotating and pipe vise features along with the small anvil area when you need to pound!

Pipe vise.
Nice heavy duty bench vise. I like the tilting and rotating features. It should work for a good, long time.

Good imported medium duty vise. This thing is TALL!
The vise arrived in a single box. The box was damaged and the vise was dinged, but still functions. The working height of the jaws is 9" off the top of the bench. In my gunshop that puts the working height 46.75" off the floor. Not unmanageable, but will take some getting used to.There is some slop or play in the dynamic jaw, and a little in the spindle, but when clamped onto work it is OK.The head rotates to have jaws or pipe clamp up for working. There is a small set screw on a handle to hold the rotation in place, but it is not alone. As soon as you clamp down on the work, the rotation is held in check. This is a little problematic in that if you have work in the jaws and want to change the angle/rotation you have to release the work. I don't like that. The rotation of the whole unit is independent of work clamped in the jaws. Just loosen the two handled clamps on the base and you can spin the thing 0 to 360 degrees.I use a mounting plate on my bench for various tools. That means I will only put the vise on when I need it. The weight is manageable for moving from the cupboard to the plate and back again with no difficulty.I ordered several sets of magnetic jaw liners for non-marring work. I wish Yost made complete set of jaws with aluminum, plastic, rubber, leather and felt material. Having to order separate sets from different companies means poor fit and more variation.I took out all the phillps head screws holding the jaw faces and V-blocks. These were replaced with hex key bolts and NeverSeize. Was very surprised that the box says "Made in China". Yost began its production of USA vises in 1908, about the same time China was slaughtering Christians and missionaries and American troops. To think that Yost moved manufacturing there is a little upsetting. My folks both worked in US foundries making pumps and pipe fittings. Both were laid off when the companies (U-Brand and Myers) moved production to China. We were always poor, but after these US companies moved production to China we became desperate. My mother abandoned us and my father died from an embolism. I was still a kid and my home was sold at a tax sale for next to nothing. If my dad knew I just paid $100 for a Chinese vise he would throw a ball pein hammer at me. (and yes, its spelled p-e-i-n)

Very well built for it's cost.
I purchase this vise for motorcycle based projects in my garage, so it will not necessarily be used for heavy duty projects. I really like the flexibility of this platform, and the 360° rotation will be extremely useful for my application. Can't speak on heavy duty usage, but I would recommend this price for similar applications.I believe that the value you get for the money being put out is very fair.

Just replace your old one, it's time
I have an old 60's house and the vise that came with it started breaking down. Bend in the bolt drive, other things as well, just got sloppy. I thought nothing new is better than the old, so I tried to disassemble and salvage my old one ... Just stop, by this unit. It's perfect.
