My First Sewing Machine Book: Learn To Sew: Kids

Great book for introducing kids to sewing.
I am using this book to teach a 9 year old how to sew. I like the book because of the pictures and illustrations. I like the projects because each week my student learned new sewing skills and then had the chance to make a project and take it home. The projects are keeping her interested. Her goal is to learn how to make doll clothes but the skills that she is learning will help her to do other types of sewing as she matures.

Gorgeous Book Chock Full of Instructions, Project Ideas, and More!
I bought this for my daughter, who is extremely crafty, to go along with her sewing machine. The book gives a wonderful, easy-to-follow breakdown of how to properly use a sewing machine. The pictures are beautifully detailed, and my daughter had no problem understanding things like how to thread the bobbin and measure fabrics. There are a variety of templates, patterns, project ideas, and instructions on how to go about creating them. Her favorite creations were a tote bag and a pencil case. I would recommend this book for anyone who has a young girl, or boy, in their life that loves to express themselves through arts and crafts.

Good first book for sewing
I really like this little book for teaching hands how to pivot or make shapes or just learn an easy first time project. It's a little thin, which was disappointing. I was hoping there was more to it. However, there is plenty to get you or your child started. I don't know how to sew but this little book helped me a lot! I am now teaching my kids how to sew with our machine and its going well. The book has some patterns you can cut out too. You can make a simple skirt, a stuffed dog, or even an ipod pouch. It's a good book. I just wish there was more to it.

Great for beginners
Purchased for my 6 year old daughter last Christmas to go along with her first sewing machine. This first half of the book includes some sewing basics which we totally needed! I have a little sewing experience from lessons as a child with my grandmother but don't remember much. The "things to make" section has several very basic projects which are the perfect level of difficultly for us. I like that the projects are things we will actually use - we've made totes for library books, halloween candy bags, a make-up bag and door draft guards for winter.

My First Sewing Machine Book; Learn To Sew; Kids
This is a very nice little book. It teaches the young reader the names of the different parts of the sewing machine. How to use the sewing machine. Very nice for the child who wants to learn to use a sewing machine. I bought it for one of my great granddaughters. She is 8 and wants to sew on her own sewing machine which she will be getting soon. She reminds me of myself when I was her age I loved to sew scraps of fabric together by hand. I'm still sewing some 70 plus years later.

Great idea, but needs more content
The book was visually cute. I gave it 3 stars because it boosted my daughter's confidence so that she would start using her machine. We were finished with this book in 30 minutes (my daughter is 10). The guides for learning to sew were the most helpful part of this book. There are a few project ideas in the back that we might do later.Overall, it was a good book, but not worth the amount charged for it. The book is such a good idea and it could be SO much better with more content. There is still so much we don't know about sewing... like how to use a pattern or select stitch types/tension or button holes. I feel like we need something else now.

A Great First Book for Kids Learning to Sew on a Machine
This is an excellent book which I much prefer to a DVD;I bought it to go along with the new Brother Sewing Machine which I purchased for my granddaughter for Christmas. She reads very well, and has been wanting to sew on my machine since last summer. She is only six, but we will take it slowly, step by step. I purchased material, thread, etc. for her as well. I also plan to cut out some felt hand puppets for her to sew at first. This book explains the parts of a sewing machine, and has simple projects to begin with. As a retired teacher, I highly recommend this book.

Great teaching tool
This book was very helpful in teaching my great grand daughter to become interested in learning to sew. She was able to read through the book to understand threading the machine, etc. I was able to make copies of stitching pages for her to practice her stitching techniques.

Too small
Very expensive for a magazine like publication

Great starter book.
I think some of the lower star reviews here are unfair. For starters, the product description tells you accurately how many patterns are included, so complaining about that after you buy the item really only makes it look like you didn't properly read the given info before you purchased- The title of the book is 'Learn to Sew' not 'Sewing pattern book'.This is a lovely little book. I've bought my 9 year old daughter a sewing machine for christmas and since I'm completely clueless in that area, I wanted something that will explain things to her from a very basic starting point, whilst giving her some simple projects to work on in order to build up her confidence. The book, in my opinion, is very informative. It starts by explaining to the reader how to set up and use their sewing machine, and contains several pages for you to photocopy in order to practice different patterns and stitches. It explains about 'wrong and right' sides of fabric and how to use them, and provides a list of what to have in your starter sewing kit (I found this list very useful as I'm also putting together a kit for her). It's bright and colourful and written in a way that children will understand and appreciate and be able to follow with no difficulty. It's more of an instruction book than a pattern book, but I knew that when I bought it and I bought it for that reason. The patterns it does have are very nice, simple, easy and basic, they are the perfect starting patterns for a child who is just learning. I'm very pleased with it.
