Better than expected
I purposely waited while before writing the review so I could make a educated review.Firstly I cringed at the price of these things and refused to pay for one myself. My daughter(who was only 5 at the time) decided she was gonna save her money to get one herself after we saw an article talking about them coming out in the fall. She helped do chores(keep in mind I'm talking like 50 cents to a dollar at a time kind of chores) and saved almost every penny to get it when it came out. I was so proud as I ordered it for her.It arrived quickly and undamaged.Once we got it out of the box I was a little disappointed by how quickly it hatched. I expected it to take a little bit of time at least, it was hatching in only about 15 minutes. My daughter was slightly disappointed by this too I think because she had made a "nest" and everything to take care of her egg. However her disappointment was short lived as the dragon started hatching. It was rather fun and exciting to watch it hatch. To me the biggest disappointment of all was realizing that this toy we paid $60 for isn't even as good as a furby in a lot of aspects. You can't just say "hey lets play a game" or "hey lets dance" There is a dial on the bottom that you have to manually turn to get to what game you want. Which means that your child (or you) have to memorize which number does what activity. At a certain point I think my daughter forgot most of the functions and just sticks with like 2.My biggest concern for this going to a 5 year old was that she was going to drop it once and it would be done. I was surprised then, when she dropped it off her bunk bed, and it still worked just fine. To date I probably couldn't even tell you how many times she dropped the thing and nothing on it is broke. It's cute and it's fun. Do I think it's $60 worth of fun? No. I'd rather get another Furby instead, but my daughter likes that she has toothless and she saved up for him all on her own. I'm giving it 4/5 stars because having to change the dial to play the different games is kind of annoying when you consider the price, but everything else is great and it's super sturdy.

So So cool, even for an adult
Upon opening this for Christmas for my 6 year old son, we actually did not think it worked. We removed the tabs as it said but nothing. Then as a mom I read up on it and you I held and moved the egg as much as could and then I started hearing the sounds which made my son so happy. Then he took over from there and moved the egg as much as he could and when he didn't one of us would. We saw the glowing eyes through the shell and started to hear it move more and more. Then finally, it started to hatch and all of us were memorized!! What a cool experience and my son keeps learning new things about his toothless. It is a lot of fun if you have a how to train your dragon fan! Great gift for any Dragon Fan!!

The best! Hatching is so cool, dragon is lots of fun.
This is an AWESOME toy. The hatching process is super cool, and my 5 and a half year old absolutely loves his baby toothless. He’s not much of an imaginary play guy, and toys usually don’t hold his attention very long. He played with this dragon All. Day. Long. And spent lots of time with him today too. The different modes are engaging and the sounds and movements are cute. My son is convinced he is going to grow bigger and that people will think it’s a real dragon as long as he doesn’t show them the bottom with the controls, lol. If you have a little dragon lover in your life, look no further!

Very adorable and a great collector's item
The media could not be loaded. This is definitely one of those items that you want to have in your collection. It might not please adults for long periods of time, but it's a really adorable and cool figure to have in your collection. I have not tried all the features yet, but he does a lot of different things and it's super cute when he does it. One of those things is he falls asleep when you ignore him, or you can hold his belly and he will plasma blast you. The price is a little high for this item but as a collector, I definitely recommend getting it. Kids will also love it too.

Good value for the money.
I have had a hatchimal for my daughter and decided to buy this for my son. The $60 hatchimals take like 45 minutes to hatch. This one took between 5-10mins tops. I was hoping for the long hatching experience. The hatchimals would 'pecks through the egg. This dragon did make all the cute noises and you had to tilt, gently shake, and tap on the egg to encourage the dragon to hatch. However, once he started hatching. The dragon was slowly push out of the top. I was expecting the same hatching experience like the normal hatchimals, so this is the only reason why I removed 1 star. The dragon did come with an interactive treat and appears to have different 'growth stages, because there is a phased age button on the bottom that rotates up thru ages. 1-7 i think, but don't quote me. It was worth the sale price I got it for, but I don't think I would pay the same $60 price like the hatchimals. I like the dragon better than the hatchimal animals, but the hatching experience was less exciting than the hatchimals. Overall, my almost 4 year old son loved it. My 6.5 yo daughter loved it too. In the end, thats what mattered :)

What fun!
This toy is fascinating. It took two days to break out of its shell. The noises that come out of the shell will keep a child interested. It is awesome when the pieces of the egg start to fall away. The toy itself is super cute! It has several different features but the kids favorite is asking it questions. It either growls a "no" or you get a happy "yes." When it needs new batteries, its eyes blinking green. A great purchase. I will be purchasing more for gifts.

Expensive fun toy
My children fell in love with Toothless in the movie, so when I saw this, knew I had to try it. It was Very Enjoyable watching it hatch. Many fun sounds! It does of course, only hatch the One time. Then it's just a nice toy. That's where the 'is it really worth the cost?' part comes in. I think it is over priced for what it offers. My children did/still do enjoy it though. So am glad I was able to get it.

Adorable and Engaging
My son is obsessed with How To Train Your Dragon. I got him this hatching toothless for his seventh birthday and he just loves his little friend. After removing the pins from the bottom of the egg, Toothless starts making noise. He responds to your touches on the egg. You tap then he taps back, you shake him then he gets mad, you cuddle him and he makes cute noises. All the while, you can see his green eyes glowing through the egg. Suddenly he makes a motorized sound and he breaks through the top of the egg. The whole hatching process takes about ten minutes. Toothless has seven modes of play. In no particular order: roaring game, question and answer, dragon trainer, plasma blasting, repeating, dancing, and just regular interacting. You can switch between all of these modes by using a dial on the bottom of the dragon. All of which are fun and engaging. I just wish there was a durable cheat sheet for the kids to remember what all of the functions are for, as there is a bit of a learning curve. He also has a fish that he “eats” when you put it to his mouth. He makes a variety of cute sounds including burps. When you’re finished with him, you turn his dial to blank and put him back into the bottom of his egg and he snores for a bit and turns off. My son plays with him every day. He loves rising him up in the air and making his wings flap, and making him plasma blast. It's just an all around cute toy. Initially, I hesitated because of its price tag but I’m glad I bought it. The joy is has brought my son is worth every penny. If your kid is a die hard HTTYD fan, this is an excellent toy.

Worth the Price
Our granddaughter was thrilled to get this. It was on her Christmas list. She completely ignored the rest of her gifts and concentrated on hatching Toothless. Once hatched she carried him around all day. It is now April and she she still loves Toothless. Likes to get small stuffies to be his friends. Worth the price. Good quality. Came really fast.
