I love this heating pad more than I love some of the people in my life
I love this pad. My older heating pads were smaller, not weighted, and didn't retain as much heat as this one does and it makes a WORLD of a difference. If you'd like more specifics, I wrote them below in sections. But this is, by fat, the best pad I have ever had. I'm not one to write reviews for products or reccomend of my own volition via word of mouth, but this pad is the exception to all my rules. I reccomend it avidly any time periods, cramps, even sensitive stomachs are the subject of conversation, stopping the conversation to text a link of the product to the person I'm talking to and everything-- I do this regardless of if this is for an adult or not (I'm an adult and I use it for me), but I am especially passionate in getting this for a kid and/or in preparation for a kid's first period. (There is one con, at the bottom, easy to find, but it's not anything I'd say is worth not buying the product over unless it's for someone who is sensitive to texture/can get overstimulated)DESIGN (AS AN ADULT): Granted, I am short and thin (5'2", and less than 130lbs), but this pad encompasses the entirety of the front of my uterus so all of it gets soothed. But! It's still small enough that it still fits into my mini backpack, so when I'm having a night-in at a friend's place to watch movies or something, I can bring it along without being an adult who is waving a stuffed animal around if we go out on the town to eat first. Like, I adore the design cuz it's cute and makes me happy; like it's not just a thing I need but also my little buddy. It's easier to project emotions onto this face than a toaster or something, so I have more affection for this and I like it a lot more than any other heating pad for the design alone. I still have my other heating pads. This is by far my favorite and most-used one, and that is largely due to the better functionality, but i'd probably use it more even if it was only "just as good" as my other pads because of the cute design. It's quirky and comforting. My period gets so bad I do honestly kind of feel like a hormonal, moody kiddo again so this soothes the inner child in me. It's very comforting and adorable.DESIGN (FOR KIDS): The design is also very well-liked by the kids I know; for example, when my little niece's first period happened early. I had this on me and I think it made for an easier transition piece "to womanhood" or whatever than a regular adult heating pad. This felt more familar to her because it looks like a stuffed animal; it made her period less of this scary new thing with all these tools and tricks and tips she had to learn all at once. This made it less overwhelming, painful, and scary because of the aforementioned familiarity and child's-toy-attractivity in its design. I reccomend this product to any adult who likes cute things, but I highly recommend it to any parent with a uterus-possessing child for sure.WEIGHTED: The weighted factor is phenomenal. I think human biology is structured so physical contact with people helps alleivate pain and stress. I'm someone who loves it when kids of my family sit on my lap, especially when I'm on my cycle, cuz the hormones triggered by the exchange and the weight of the kid eases any lower-body pain I have. If you've noticed the same and/or if your love language includes touch, the weighted factor is essential to your self-care (especially cuz this is weighted *and* warm as opposed to a weighted blanket which are usually very cool to the touch). Trust me. You'll thank me. You're welcome.HEAT RETENTION: And lastly, this thing retains SO MUCH HEAT. I forget how long I am advised to put in the microwave specifically, but I usually put all my pads in it for a minute or a minute and 30 seconds. The worst pads I've had, in order to get it to a temperature I could feel through my clothes, I would have to put it in for 2 minutes at minimum. Even then, all these heating pads, I do this (and my microwave does not have weak volts), I usually have to put on a blanket and unzip my pants to put the pad on in a way that stills gets me the heat I need for as long as possible. This heating pad? I don't have to undo any article of clothing (like it SHOULD be). I do my minute and 30 seconds, I can put it on top on my clothes and get full heat. Sometimes I reheat it too soon and I get too much heat, and then I just put it on top of my blanket that's already on my lap or my oversized sweater I'm wearing or what have you. I just add the barest extra layer and bam, there is no longer a problem. And it does stay hot for at least 30 minutes. I just undo that extra layer and put it back ontop of my pants when I'm ready as the heat calms. It's so soothing. Even when it's "too hot", it's not painful for me, it's still so soothing. I haven't timed the pad exactly, but I think mine has given me heat for at least an hour before. It's phenomenal. Because ontop of those old pads not retaining enough heat in order for it transfer through a simple layer of denim, I'd have to reheat it in about 10 or 15 minutes. Which is great exercise, but at what cost?? My patience. I'm already miserable and I just got comfy, and now I've got to get up because my old heating pads weren't made to be functional as much as they were to snatch my money Indiana Jones style. And I'd be about ready to bulldoze over my old pads with a boulder too, I'd get so mad. I appreciate this so much in comparison. It's so golden. God tier. A+, you get a smiley face sticker, which is hard to get when my period makes me feel all fussy.ONE CON(?): My only concern with this pad is that it does get... damp? I think "damp" is too heavy of a "wetness" for this. It's the equivalent of when rainfall is "misting", not even a "drizzle", but "misting" as they say. When you heat it up, often times it feels like that. I actually procrastinated this review in order to see if this would become a bigger problem, but I bought this product in early- to mid-June of 2019? Maybe even older, but it's now mid- to late-January of 2020 as of writing this review. It keeps doing the misting thing, but it's not even at a level that feels gross to the touch-- like I wouldn't say this is "moist" or that it "sweats", again, even "damp" is too heavy for how this feels. And even then, I don't spend its usage hugging or fondling the thing. I usually sit down and put it on my lap. Sometimes I put it on my shoulder when that's achey. Even when wearing shorts or a tanktop, it's not an uncomfortable feeling. It's just odd. Especially since the thing itself is fuzzy (which I have touched wet aninals and this is not the same wet dog/cat feeling btw). It's enough to notice but not enough to be unnerved by. But I mention it in case you're considering this product if you have a texture sensitivity or can be triggered into overstimulation from something like that. I personally get overstimulated from auditory experiences, and though I do have friends and family who are neurodivergent and a sub-sect of that are those who have autism and the like, neither I or anyone I know have been overstimulated by this product's texture or that misty wetness of it. I'd suggest buying it anyway and returning it if you find you or who the gift is for are sensitive to the moisture or fuzzy texture. I can imagine someone finding either to be "too much", even if I and my loved ones are fine with both aspects of the product. It's a similar texture those jean jackets with fleece interiors or that have the cotton sleeves+hoodie, and the dampness is that plus a fog kinda feel to it. It's soft and cozy, but some people get overstimulated from that kind of thing. For me and mine? They're ignorable for us.Also, I have washed the product and checked inside, and so far? The mistiness has caused no mold. I have no idea where the slight dampness comes from, but people who have also bought the product have told me they noticed the same facet.TLDR;; If GQ asked me to participate in their "My 10 Essentials" series, this would be on mine FOR SURE. It soared so high with so many flying colors, new hues had to be named. The design? Flawless, especially for children. I love the expansive width yet compactability for travel, and how cute it is. My niece tried to steal it from me, but you can't swip from a swiper, I taught you those puppy eyes myself, they can't break me (but I did pester her mom for the kid to get her own). The weighted factor? Changed the game. Dealing with my uterus used to be like playing chess with it (and I don't know how to play chess), but now it's a game of Connect Four and I got my diagonal thanks to that added piece of functionality. Heat retention? I'd dump my hypothetical partner for this heating pad; it has BEEN THERE for me, it has been STABLE and CONSISTENT, it has been PATIENT, and it is an absolute HOTTIE. If you're worried about texture sensitivity, I'd say try it anyway (because if it doesn't activate that sensitivity-- this pad is a GOD SEND and you'll be happy you took the risk) and return the product if it causes overstimulation, but neither myself or any other person I know with such problems has had that issue with the product, I can just imagine it. The "misty" quality that happens with heating is ignorable and after months of very frequent use, there are still no signs of mold. Overall, the best product I have ever bought in my life. It alleviates SO much pain (and my period can be bed-riddenly painful), this heating pad is how I know life has meaning, that nirvana is possible, that people can be redeemed. Because this pad gave me my week back, and now I am a relogious devotee, take me back to church, I know all the hymns now and they all sound like my microwave and my prayers are my sated sighs, a higher-power has tucked me in to bed and given me a loving kiss in the form of this heating pad and I must bE ITS NEW PROPHET

First Heating Pad Changed My Life
Chief the friend that brings you relief, definitely stands by its name. This is my first heating pad and it changed my period routine completely. I used to suffer for hours, even days until this guy came along. You heat it for thirty seconds to a minute depending on your microwave and it stays warm for an hour, at least for me. I have the worst cramps ever, they last for three days and most of the time the pain is so bad I can barely eat anything or if I do it comes back up soon after. This helps with the cramping substantially, sometimes even making it go away completely when it’s at the right temperature. I love that it is weighted which helps the heat press to do its job and almost feels like a hug. It takes up the entire span of my lower abdomen so there is plenty of space to put it exactly where you need it. Even if that’s directly on your crouch. It does have a damp feeling when heated multiple times in a day but it isn’t actually damp. I don’t really care about the texture but if you are sensitive to that I would keep it in mind. As an adult I appreciate things that not only feel comforting but look comforting too. The little bunny makes me feel like he is a friend helping to ease my pain. Since I enjoy it, I know for a fact a child would love this little guy and will feel comfortable cuddling it. All in all this was completely worth it and I would buy it again in a heartbeat. I have zero issues with it.

I love my sweaty son
Product is easy to use. Pop the lil man in the microwave for 15-30 seconds and you'll have a good chunk of time for pain relief. Since I'm used to using an electric heating pad, having to get up repeatedly to re-nuke the dog was somewhat tiresome, but the heat you get from it is just as good as an electric model. He's hot to the touch though, so I suggest picking him up/swaddling him in a towel so he doesn't burn your skin. One thing I did note was the decided amount of perspiration that came out of this lil man when I left him in for anything longer than 15 seconds. I was surprised. I didn't know it was possible for a dog to become this waterlogged, but when I say the lad was soaked, I don't exaggerate. He's a good boy, he really is. He's just very very sweaty. No fault of his own.I found a solution to Chief's perspiration by taking out the bag of beans that was inside him and wrapping it in a couple of layers of paper towel before sliding the package back in. His belly was still slightly damp upon extrication from the hot house, but he did his job with duty and condensated far less in the process.Makes a great family addition. Superb with children and college students. A forever friend. A weighty boy. (2lbs.!) Buy one today

Excellent alternative to electric heating pad
I love this little guy! I like HOT heading pads and this definitely performs. I usually microwave for like 45 seconds and then another 30-45. I saw other reviewers mention that he can "sweat" a little. That happens with me, too, but I don't consider it a big deal at all and it typically only feels slightly damp just after I take it out of the microwave. I don't think this beats an electric heating pad in terms of how long it sustains heat (obviously), but I like this one because I don't have to worry about turning it off, it's more flexible, easier to move around with, and also very cute. Would recommend!

Cute, but.....
It is a little smaller than I had expected, but it is cute. The heat pack is smaller than the animal, so the entire animal does not get warm, just the section with the heat pack in it. It does not come in a box. I was giving this as a gift, so without a box it was difficult to wrap. There wasn't much printed information with the product. You need to read the small tag to understand how to heat it. There is no packaging explaining the materials used to make it or cleaning and heating instructions. This would have been helpful and would make the product more appealing.
