Yes it works perfectly. So good that when it whistles it sometimes lifts the lid too!!! But a very strong kettle a good buy

Is any part of the lid plastic?

The gold part of the lid is metal, the knob feels rubbery, so is probably insulated. The same with the handle, so I don't think they're plastic.

You have to take the lid off. You are supplied a mitten, so if kettle hasn't cooled down you dont burn your hand when steam rises. Plus you have to take top off because the water level should not go above spout level to stop spitting when boiling.

How loud is the whistle? It would be good to see a video clip.

Loud enough to here in an adjacent room with the doors open. Not overly loud. Initially thought of sending it back. Got used to it now. It boils water on an aga and looks pretty 👍
