Magic: Initiate to Adept: A guide for new and returning players

Well written, handy to have
I find the guide pretty good and well written. I've, for the most part already learned the basics in how to play so, much of what I've read thus far, which is about half the book, I already know. But I do like how the author gives the reader the basics in the beginning, then in later chapters dives deeper into the game. I find this approach doesn't over saturate the reader with information - in which there is a TON with Magic The Gathering in general!!I think for $7, you can't go wrong buying this guide. Especially if you want to keep it around just as a refresher or gift/loan it to someone just starting to learn how to play. You can also find a lot of information about Magic online at sites like Youtube, Wizards of the Coast, and Reddit, but its nice to have something handy that you can just sit down and read.If there is one source of material I wish I could find, either in a book or online somewhere, would be a place that deciphers card meanings. Most cards/decks, I've played have been straight forward, but there are a lot of cards whos descriptions in what they do can be confusing to a first time player or one with limited experience in the game.

Great MTG Fundamentals Source
Having watched my sons play MTG since 2000? I wanted to join in the action but so many rules! so many cards to learn! So I purchased an (older) more expensive book from 1995. Despite the great color photos, and many examples I still remained feeling inadept. I feared I'd never grasp the core game foundamentals to play semi-well let alone be competitive. It's hard to play with strangers when I had to keep asking questions on every card and every move! I decided to try this little book. While reading I reviewed my dragon commander deck cards as I went. Then light bulb clicked. This easy read book explained all the little details I needed to complete my mental grasp of the game. I have since played several matches and what use to take hours with only loses to speak of, I am now winning in a short 7-9 turns (Mana Blessings of course). I having learned the importance of mana generating cards ratios and ramping, I made some necessary changes in my deck. Great for beginners like me (I knew the game but didn't KNOW the game). Still more knowledge to gain via other players/decks, of course, but this little book solidified the MTG game. This book is really handy when gaming and a sematic question come up that needs a quick resolution.

Good supplement for new and returning players.
As a newer player of the game I found this to be a good companion to the 2014 duels of the planeswalkers game. The video game will step you through the basics and it helps to see it actually happen. The book is a good reference for when you move to the real, tangible cards. That being said the Magic Origins duels video game gives a better in depth explanation and execution of the turn structure, abilities, and nuances of the game. Play either video game to get a feel for the game, grab this ebook when you're ready to grab the real cards

Now I Understand the Game
I used to play Magic: the Gathering when I was in high-school, but that was in 1993 to 1996. I had forgotten everything about how to play this game as I had not played it since then. Now, at the age of 42, I want to play again. I bought some cards and didn't have any idea about how to play. I've read some about the game online, watched a few videos on YouTube, and played Magic Arena on the computer. Then I read this book and now I finally have a more thorough understanding of how to play the game. I haven't played with my new cards yet but now I am ready to play with my husband as well as play against others at the local game store. Thank you for writing this book.

Your request to me was hacked please check it out, thank you
I bought this for my Grandson and I to play together, it is a game of cards and some are rare and collectable, whom ever hacked this with the words Christian Temple needs to remember that this is a business site and I didn't appriciate your intrusion on the request from Amazon to review the purchase. I profess my aplostalic faith and am a well adjusted septagenerian, so please understand me when I tell you THIS IS A CARD GAME, it has creatures of fantasy and is nothing more then A GAME. you must muddle through life parroting what others thinking for you are saying. Please go out into the world to ply your ideas there and leave the business world to business. Here online at Amazon.

Great Book!!
This book was the perfect companion for a new player to Magic. I had been looking for something that would have the basic knowledge I needed to know in all in one place without having to search the internet. I was starting to give up because of the poor reviews most books got and the scarcity of the books did not give me any hope. Then I came across this one! I have to say again, perfect for beginners! It uses plain English to describe the rules and facets of the game. There are also more advanced topics for once you begin playing such as deck building tips and basic guild guides.

Decent guide
This guide is for the complete newbie. There's some examples of strategies to use but not much. I would've liked a bit more strategy.

Good for new players. Without clutter but a bit expensive
The book is nice. It clearly states without confusion how to play the game and it's various elements. But it never will make you adept at playing the game. I find the book flowing in a good manner. But at Rs. 228, I feel it is very short. The author could have explained the various formats in which the game is played, described most common abilities and how they play etc. Also there are two errors in the starting... The author says that there are 7 card types. But names only 6.

Simple and efficient
Easy to read and to start playing. But don't think you'll became a master. You'll know basic strategies and the basic about colors.

A good read!
Good coverage of all the rules and various card types! Worth picking up if you're new or just forgetful of the never ending card variations! Author should have included a few card images for extra clarity and to add a bit of colour to the book!
