Oaxaca: Home Cooking from the Heart of Mexico

By far, one of the best cookbooks I own. From easy reference to key chiles used in Oaxacan dishes via a photo in the book, to learning the staples and preparing them (like black beans and masa), I peruse this book often. And there are a few dishes I make on the regular. So delicious and authentic!

Fabulous cookbook and meals. Gave it to my son as a gift and he loves it…delicious Oaxacan recipes, beautiful to look at…approachable format.

I purchased this for my son for Christmas. He loves this cookbook. He has perfected Mole'- this sits on his counter and is his go to cookbook. The directions are easy to follow and the book itself is beautiful. The notes of love to Mexican culture provides a wonderful read as well.

Very fun to read. The book is more pictures than recipes, would be my only complaint. The food is delicious the instruction is easy to follow, and the book is beautiful to look at and look through. A very good purchase

Such a unique book. Colorful cover and pictures. The recipes are nicely written. The author is listened to on a podcast and enjoyed her story Overall a very informative and well put mexican cookbook, specially my favorite region Oaxaca!!!!

After an amazing meal at Guelaguetza (the Lopez' family restaurant in LA) last month, we immediately came home and looked for Oaxacan cookbooks, only to find that their own book was due out this week! I pre-ordered and am so glad I did. While this book does contain wonderfully complex mole recipes, the thing I love most is that so many of the recipes are *simple*! Family meals, the kind of thing you could easily make on a weeknight, just quality ingredients combined well to make lovely dishes. We've already tried a few of the breakfast items and the black bean staples, and every one was delicious. I also really love the recipe intros and stories shared throughout. They give the reader a real sense of Oaxaqueño culture and food traditions, and introduced me to the wonderful Lopez family.

This is a beautiful book with high quality pictures and print. It is full of authentic, and easy to follow recipes. I would not recommend it for a beginner cook, but it doesn’t require a professional either. This is one of my favorite books in my kitchen right now.

Much more than a cookbook. It has beautiful photos, stories, history, and of course great recipes.
