Downton Abbey: The Official Film Companion

Beautifully done volume! It was filled with excellent photos and fascinating background articles about making of the movie, each principal character and individual actors. Biographies of the British royals who were featured in the film were a welcome addition. Fascinating reading. Couldn’t put the book down and read it cover to cover in almost one sitting.

I purchased the other companion book that covered the Downton Abbey series from beginning to end. So it was natural that I was eager to read the movie book, too. So glad I did -- fabulous behind the scene stories, information as to what was done and why, details on the clothes, hair and jewelry for the female characters. I found this book definitely set the stage for the movie -- glad I read the book before seeing the movie. I doubt any reader will be disappointed. Nice!

I really liked the in depth description of the motives and thoughts of each main character. I purchased the book for information about the set up of the movie, the photos ( they did not disappoint - especially the originals of the royal family) and to fill in the time we all he’d to wait until the movie came out. I enjoyed the book very much.

I bought two copies of this book, one to keep and one to give to a friend who was as enthralled by the Downton Abbey series as I was. Spoiler alert: don't read the book until you've seen the movie! It's okay to look at the gorgeous pictures, but keep your eyes away from the text unless you like knowing the identity of the murderer at the beginning of a mystery novel. That said, this book is a treasure to be returned to time and again, especially if you already own all of the series on DVD and plan on watching it over and over. When the movie becomes available for purchase, you can just add it to your collection like the cherry on top of an old-fashioned sundae.

An excellent companion to the movie. It also gives you perspective on the many relationships among the characters in the movie and their history that go back to 1911 from Season 1 to 1925 which is the beginning of Season 6. The book has many informative facts about the characters that with the speed of the multiple scenes and the subplots one might miss including the actors that play them. An excellent resource with beautiful photos.

Most Downton Abbey fans probably have most, if not all, of the companion books to the TV series (I think there were 5 of them). Full of on set and behind the scenes pictures, facts, history…just a lot of great detail about the series. This book is like that and might even be an improvement on the previous books. It doesn't give away much (I haven't seen the movie but already knew many of the details), you won't spoil mich of anything if you read this before you see the movie. Every Downton Abbey fan needs this book. Even if you aren't a fan it's worth a look…would make a great gift too, would be a great addition to any "Downton".collection.

5 stars. Would you expect anything less. I finished this read in less than 6 hours and am more excited to see the film knowing what I know after reading this read. Explanation of each character and it's ties to actual royalty is amazing. What an undertaking by Julian Fellows et al. I highly recommend this to anyone who will see the movie. Worth every penny as a Kindle edition!!

A beautiful companion book to a beautiful film. I loved the interviews, the detailed sketches of the custome designers that were included and the pictures and behind the scenes photos. This book has obviously been put together with great care and it does feel like a labour of love. Every character gets their own double page (or more) and you get to know stuff you probably haven't known before. A great read and would always buy again/ give as a gift.

This was a perfect campanion to the movie. A lot of information in a very nice book, beautiful photographs, well worth the money and a lovely keepsake!!
