an exquisite software experience meets precision controls
Hardware: iPad 4 with Lightning ConnectorSoftware: Traktor DJ (iOS App) 1.2.1.148Build Notes:+ The knobs are all rubberized. They're soft to the touch.+ The Line faders have a very nice glide to them. They're not completely loose and offer a bit of resistance.+ The crossfader is very loose. I can flick it from one side to the other with a finger.+ The buttons make a "click" noise and have the texture of an Akai MPC pad.- The deck plate matches an iPad's bezel, but is very prone to smudging and surface scratches. Do NOT wipe this with a dry cloth.Contents:+ AC adapter (with many different plug adapters)+ Thick guage USB cable (for computer connections)+ Thick guage USB to 30pin Apple cable (for iOS device connections)+ Paperwork: card with software and hardware serial numbers+ Paperwork: instructions+ A sheet of Native Instrument stickers (for cases, laptops, etc)- There's NOTHING in the box for newer Apple device connectivity (Lightning port). You'll need the Apple 30pin to Lighting adapter to make this work.Other notes:+ Fully compatible with the Traktor Gig Bag. 0 issues. The Z1 fits inside of it perfectly.Final thoughts:The iPad app is magnificent, but a fingertip isn't great for sliders. The Traktor Z1 gives the user more precision over controls (levels, gains, highs, mids, lows, fx) that require finesse. The form factor is amazing. The app is powerful. This setup is perfect for dj's who don't feel like dragging around equipment for small parties, backyard bbq's, or tailgating.

Amazing iOs DJ controller
I am a long time Serato user. As I own an iPad I have played with the TrAktor Dj app because its fun to mix on the bus, train or waiting in line. The low price of the Z1 convinced me to grab it. I'm very impressed with the output levels for Traktor DJ - as compared to a Novation Twitch, VCI 300 and a Rane SL1. This is a great solution to DJing a house party, after hours or on an Art car or other mobile stage. Also, it works great with an iPad 2. The $500 combo of a Z1 and an iPad 2 compares very favorably with the $800 to $1500 cost of a laptop and controller combo for two deck controller DJing on Serato or Traktor Pro. I highly recommend the Z1 to longtime DJs who want the best inexpensive mobile solution and to any person stepping up their DJ set up.

Great Mixer
Love NI products and this one is great as my first mixer. Best part is that's its plug in, play, and can go with me wherever I need it to.

Works Great!
I got my intro to DJ'ing with these creating seamless mixes, it allowed me to utilize the Traktor DJ app for the iPad and I learned basic knowledge on mixing and beatmatching, you can turn off the sync and learn by ear with this device. I really utilize it now more so with the x1 and f1 and my maschine studio. its a mobile gig setup and easy to connect as it does have a sound card so you can't beat the price.

NOT class compliant with iOS/ Traktor dj iOS/ no power supply...
First off:I *love* this controller. i have had mine since they first came out, used with Traktor DJ on ipad/ iphone and with Ableton live. It has held up to much abuse and is the perfect controller for me for djing and live sets...However:apparently the newer version is *NOT* class compliant with iOS, and cannot be used with Native instrument's own Traktor DJ iOS software. This unit is USB bus powered *only* and does not come with the power supply wall wart. It doesn't even have a power input jack. The amazon website said it was class compliant, for use with traktor DJ on iOS, and that it comes with a power supply. Get this: the instruction booklet that came with the unit has instrustions for use with iOs, proclaims it's class compliance, and refers multiple times to the "included" power supply. So yeah... Lame...

Nice but not ios
This is a nice controller/intfc for Traktor. It's not class compliant though. Contrary to what the images and descriptions (on both Amazon AND Native Instruments' website) say, the power supply is NOT included and the unit does not accept one. I found out from a local dealer that in their product notes it says as of December 2021, ios is no longer supported. Which means if you run Traktor on an iPad, you can use it as an audio interface, complete with separate headphone monitoring, but no software control. I couldn't really get this answer from Native Instruments even after 2 weeks of emails.BUT, this is still a nice, portable controller. Thr knobs and faders are a little flimsy, but REALLY smooth, and the sound is great!

I've purchased NI equipment for years and love their quality and functionality and the Z1 is no exception. Coupled with the Traktor DJ app on the iPad, this is just a great piece of kit, giving you the hands on mix of the Z1 with the touch of the iPad screen, mixed together is potentially one of the best bits of kit I have ever had, real fun, rock solid reliable..Buy it !

Fantastic Add-on to Native Instruments Traktor for iPad / iPhone
Native Instruments Traktor for iPad (and iPhone) is a terrific software tool for Djing, but I really feel the need to have a way to monitor the track and physical controls to control the mixing.Z1 provides all what I needed, ok maybe the control is not that precise (and if you want a more robust way to use your iPad you can buy the new S4 and S2 controls), but for portability and to play with sound sounds I think Z1 is perfect.I subtracted one star because the supplied cable will make you use a lightning adapter in your iPhone 5, 5c and 5s and the fourth generation Ipad and newer models - Native Instruments should provide the cable to connect to the current iOS generation.
