This router is AWESOME!
I've been having some intermittent issues with my cable internet and was told by my ISP that I would have to wait until spring because I need a new cable buried. I work from home. My phones are voip and I have several users that access remote desktops on a server here. Losing my internet connection with no warning is not an option. It only took a few minutes to get it up and running, the interface is very intuitive. It found my 4G modem without hesitation and this router allows the modem to stay active. You can see it in the Balance One interface, it's signal strength and IP address. Since it's active, you can enter the modem's configuration even while your main WAN is up and running. Once I got the Peplink all configured, I called my cable company to have the send a refresh to my modem because it was flaking out. I warned the CSR that I was on a voip line and we would be disconnected as soon as he sent the config file over, then we continued chatting away. I asked him if he had sent the refresh and he said he had a while ago and he showed the modem was rebooting. I checked and I was running on my backup WAN. Not even a blip on the voip line. It was amazing. The Balance One replaced a cradlepoint that had hit or miss for failover. I would have to monkey around with my 4G modem, unplugging it from the USB port, restarting the router, then plugging it back in and crossing my fingers. Then half the time the main WAN went down it would lose the modem anyway. When I first got the cradlepoint I thought it was the cat's pajamas, recommended it to all my clients and friends, but this router is far and away superior. You can tell the people at Peplink enjoy what they do and strive to make this a foolproof device. It's easy to find answers to questions, and config tips, like (currently) hidden methods to reduce the WAN buffer size. And I didn't have to pay for a subscription for support. And for this price? Pfffft, it's a no-brainer. Now I will be telling everybody who cares to listen about Peplink, for sure.

Great dual-wan router, poor Wifi access point
The dual WAN features work really well with the two providers I have. The firewall configuration flexibility is better than I expected. My only gripe is with the reliability of the built-in wifi access point. It frequently slows down significantly or locks up entirely, requiring a reboot of the router. Throughput on the wired connections does not seem to have that same problem. They remain consistent even when the wifi AP is locked up. I spent the extra money for the convenience and simplicity of a built-in wifi AP, but I may have to buy a separate one anyway.

Poorly made, very disappointed
Wow. I can't tell you how disappointed we are with this product. We purchase this to replace a very old, but very reliable, Linksys RV082, mainly because the RV082 only has 100Mbps ports. At first, we loved the Balance One - fast, easy to configure, great options, and reliable...for about 6 months. Then we started having problems with the router dropping packets, which would increase over a period of an hour or two until it was not passing any traffic at all. The only solution was to reboot. Initially, this issue occurred about once every 6 weeks, but the frequency increased until it was about once a day, some days once every 2.5 hours!!!!We have tried to work with support, but they are saying we are overloading the device with sessions, even though 90% of those sessions are doing nothing. To emphasize how wrong this is, this failure never occurs during peak periods, and in fact, at times has failed on the weekends or late at night when nobody is working (we are a 9-5) shop and this also does not take into account that during one of the failures, I unplugged everything except my laptop to test and normal performance was never restored. The only solution Peplink has provided was to purchase the a faster unit, 3.5 times the cost of this one and since they can't give us convincing reasons to believe this one is failing due to being overused, why would we spend much more money on the same vendor? The old RV082 never choked like this device. Anyway, we've spent countless hours trying to resolve the problem and we're done. We're going to find a replacement and sell these (feel kind of bad selling them to anyone, really).

Best VPN Router on the market!
I've been a Peplink customer for several years, initially starting with a Peplink Balance 20. I wanted a good VPN router, to allow me manage my network from anywhere, while providing good firewall throughput, stability and protection. I am an IT professional with over 30 years of experience and well versed in Cisco and other major router manufacturers. After doing extensive research, I chose the Peplink Balance 20. Sitting behind my Comcast router, the Peplink gave me everything I wanted, and more. The few times I needed tech support, they were very responsive. They listen to their customers, and routinely incorporate user-requested feature enhancements. The Balance 20 served me well for years, but recently my ISP (Comcast) increased my internet speed above the 150mbps limit of the Balance 20. So based my great experience with the Balance 20, I upgraded to the Balance One Core. The Balance One Core gives me the same interface as the Balance 20, the same features and stability, but with faster speeds (600mbps) and more Ethernet ports. I am extremely happy with the Balance One Core. Even with a large number of Firewall rules, I am getting full speed, with no degradation in performance. The VPN features are amazing and allow me to connect from anywhere. AND let us not forget the great Dual-WAN features! Having had 2 ISPs (Cable and a DSL backup), over the years my Peplink has flawlessly provided failover between WAN connections, whenever there was an outage, and we never noticed anything had changed. This is a quality product from a quality company that really cares about its customers. For security, performance, reliability and great feature sets, you can't do any better than Peplink.
