Oh dear...what a rubbish book..sorry !
I don't often take the time to post a review but I really don't want anyone to buy this book with any expectation that there is anything of worth within those 167 pages.I was really excited about this book, as Elizabeth Galton is a great jewellery designer and business women but boy was i disappointed when I 'read' her book.To boast that this book would be of use to 'all recent jewelry design graduates' is an insult. There is nothing of substance at all for any student or graduate. It reads like a jewellery magazine in it's brevity and content.Example:Section on The Development Team-CAD designer "Design teams are often supported by a senior designer experienced in CAD design; necessary for detailed specification and complex projects". That's it verbatim on that topic. It really is as banal as that.Another example: on page 38 "Catwalk jewellery comprises one-off jewellery showpieces designed primarily for the fashion catwalk (runway)". Once again word for word !There are a few 'interviews' from jewellery designers in the book but once again, anyone who has studied jewellery design for at least a year would of stumble upon or read interviews by these designers already. Some pretty pictures but that's itSometimes I think it's wiser to stick to what you do best, rather than tarnishing ones name in pursuit of a quick buck. There is absolutely no insight in to jewellery designing or the jewellery design business in this book.Try and get your hands on a copy of The Art of jewellery design by Liz Olver(No I'm not Liz Olver but I have her book and it's a really good book, lots of detail on the jewellery design process, great for those without any formal training)This will be the third book I've ever sent back to amazon

The book has nice visual photographs and interviews with the designers
It is a really slim and very general book which tells you about few design stages (BASICS) but very briefly as if you had forgotten about the sequence and need a reminder. The book has nice visual photographs and interviews with the designers, which take a huge proportion of the book filling you inn on personal experiences and sources of inspiration. I would recommend it for 4-6 years old children who maybe find it amusing.

Well rounded publication for those seeking a career in jewellery
For anyone currently studying or thinking of studying or pursuing a career in jewellery. This book gives a 360 perspective of what the industry has to offer in terms of possible career options and insights into how named individuals within the industry achieved their status, as well as pointers for developing collections, branding and history. All too often students have the short sighted view of becoming a designer without understanding the other options available to them in this multifaceted industry, and the other professionals that ensure a designer/brand becomes successful.Covering both fine and fashion jewellery, the interviews with fellow industry professionals highlight that to study jewellery is not the only route into the industry. My only criticism of this book, is that it could have been longer, so that more pages could have been given to the other career options within the industry.
