Great EDC Knife, Excellent for Kayaking, and LIFETIME WARRANTY!
UPDATE (5/23/2018) UPGRADED TO 5-STARS: I have owned this knife for almost 5 years now. My preferred EDC at the time was the following: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00322HR2C/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1. It is a good knife that I still own today and still carry from time to time; however, after carrying both knives for a short time, the Gerber quickly became my favorite. It is a bit smaller, just as sharp and useful as the Cold Steel, but it has a better feel to it... a bit heavier, and sturdy, not that the Cold Steel isn't sturdy. The CS just feels really light for what it is, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Note that I'm an avid kayaker, and this knife has been in and out the water (fresh water) throughout the years, with no issues. In my original review (see below), I made mention of the one-handed opening operation to be a bit rough. It has since broken in, and has not been an issue for years. It took maybe a year of EDC and usage, but even though it can snap open easily with just one hand, the blade is still tight. After almost 5 years, however, the pocket clip just got so worn out from using it every day, that it began failing to hold the knife to my pocket. It would come loose and either fall off and into my pocket from bending over throughout the day or just falling out onto the floor. The Gerber carries a LIFETIME WARRANTY, so I figured I'd put in a request to see if the clip was covered. Within 12 hrs of submitting a claim on their web site, I received an email confirmation with tracking number for the replacement clip. AMAZING!!!! I didn't expect as much as a response or at most a "sorry, not covered" message, but I was pleasantly surprised! Gerber stands behind their products, and they respond quickly! UPGRADE TO 5 STARS! =================================================================== ORIGINAL REVIEW (2013-2014) 4-STAR REVIEW: I use this knife as my safety knife for kayaking, so this is the context of my review. * The BLADE is comparable to any other knife I've owned; sharp and strong. * The LOCKING MECHANISM is good. When engaged, the blade will lock, similar to other knives with the same mechanism. It uses a tension bar that automatically slides to the right to lock the blade in the open position. The fold the blade into a closed position, you need to manually slide the tension bar to the side so that the knife can fold. I have no clue if this is better or worse than traditional buck-knife style locking mechanisms. * The CLIP is great for clipping onto your pant pocket for every day use; tight enough to not slip out, but not so tight that it's difficult to slide on or off. * The HANDLE is comfortable for my (medium sized) hands. My observations about the knife: One-hand operation (opening/closing the knife) is possible, but not easy. There is a thumb tab to push on, but either the angle or the tightness of the blade doesn't allow a quick wrist snap + thumb pressure to open the knife. I also tried silicon spray to see if this helps but in my case, it did not. Two hands, there is no problem, but in a quick emergency situation where one hand is ideal, this knife wouldn't be my first choice. Perhaps after some wear, the blade will open much more smoothly, but as of now, quick one hand operation is not so simple. This is the main reason for dropping 1 star as I feel that this is the most important feature for a knife for MY USE. Closing the blade is pretty simple when you understand how the locking mechanism works. When holding the knife with blade open, I slip my index finger through the hole and it's very comfortable. Even gives me a sense of comfort knowing that the knife won't slip. I actually love this feature about the knife. The CLIP is not strong enough to remain on my PFD's lash tab. I understand that it wasn't designed for that, but it would have been ideal for my use if it were, but if that were the case, it wouldn't be so great when just clipping to your pant pocket. No issues when wearing in my pant pocket as it comes out of the box. I use a caribiner to hold the knife to my PDF. It just clips into the large finger hole and the blade can still open/close with the carabiner on. All around, it's a good knife, but I would try something else if you're looking for a quicker one-hand operating knife. Like I said, in time, the blade may open quicker/easier, but out of the box and after a month of use, it's still tough. The hole is a great feature for putting your finger through while the blade is open to ensure (or at the least, give you peace of mind) that the handle will not slip out of your hand.

Excellent Everyday Carry Knife – Lightweight, Durable, and Convenient!
I’ve been using this Gerber knife for a few weeks now, and it’s quickly become my go-to. The first thing that caught my eye was the unique design, especially the big hole in the middle of the blade. It’s not just for looks—it actually makes it super easy to grip and use, especially when I need extra control. The knife feels solid but is still really lightweight, so I don’t even notice it in my pocket. The one-hand opening is smooth, and the pocket clip and carabiner options make it super convenient to carry around. I’ve clipped it to my bag, my belt, and even just hung it up when I didn’t need it. The size is perfect—not too big, not too small. The blade is sharp, and I love that it’s resistant to rust. It’s held up great so far, and I know I can rely on it for a long time with that Gerber lifetime warranty. Overall, it’s a great everyday knife. Practical, stylish, and super easy to use. Highly recommend!

Perfect Every Day Carry, don't know why people are crying about it.
Great Every Day Carry knife. Very strong, keeps a good edge and has good ergonomics. The knife is a little slow to open, since its axle is a large friction-filled cylinder, but this also means it stays closed very well in your pocket, which is an issue I've had with a lot of other knives (including Gerber knives). Between this and one of those smith pocket sharpeners I was able to skin almost an entire deer with this knife. I have a bunch of these in the serrated version because they are absolutely great every day carries, but switched over to the fine edge because I realized I never use the serration, and it paid off to have this with one of my deer. The clip is great because it surfaces such a tiny little triangular piece out of my pocket, revealing much less of the knife than most pocket knives I've carried. I've always been a knife fanatic and carried a lot of knives. I bought my first one of these for my dad around 7 years ago for Fathers' day, then after he carried it all the time I got jealous and bought myself one as well. Since then, I've carried it off and on, switching it out with others, and I think this is one of the best knives I've ever used. I don't believe in paying a lot for a knife as it distracts from the freedom to use it as necessary, and this knife is (at this point, $20) a great value for the money with no stress about using it in a pinch to tighten a screw or pop a stuck cap out of a muzzle loader. highly recommend.

How Do They Do That?
This is a very fine product - but I have to use both hands to get the blade to come out - whereas I'm seeing these dudes on these videos who are able to get the blade out with just one hand. How do they do that? LOL Can anyone out there give me some advice on how to pull that off? I would be much obliged - thanks. :-)

The new knife is a much better quality, and I thank Gerber for addressing it.
I have had the knife since Christmas but the knife was purchased on December 7, 2019 as a favorite choice… what a huge disappointment! So far the Gerber Guarantee is a huge disappointment… the finish fell off, the mechanism broke and finally the knife fell apart… after seven requests on the Gerber website and finally getting through to get a reply. I got childish request for extra photos for weird questions and then finally no replies. UPDATE: well it took two months and it looks like Gerber decided to replace the knife that fell apart… I understand a little more if you read the back of the package all the knives are made in China so sending me a replacement parts is next to impossible, but they sent me a brand new knife to replace the one that fell apart… Hats off to Gerber thank you for correcting this issue and replacing the knife. It is greatly appreciated. I now have a greater aspect and understanding of everything that you have to go through. Still have a few mixed feelings about Gerber being made in China, but I’m very happy with the company all in all and that they were able to address the issue and replace the knife. NEW NOTE: The upgrades to the knife are nice… 1. The original knife had plastic washers and the new knife has copper washers. 2. The original knife had the worst finish and thin paint… however, the new knife has a baked on finish that is well made. 3. The knife blade had a poor quality blade and the new one is moch better quality. GREAT JOB GERBER!

Not too Big and Not too Small
I like knives that I can carry on walks, bicycle rides, or to train with. If the knife is easier to hold on to, that's another big plus. I also like knives that aren't too big or too small. This Remix checks those boxes and more. I've been involved in Filipino Martial Arts(Escrima/Arnis) for over 35 years. This knife works well for limb destruction techniques or as a strike enhancer with the blade closed. It can be used like a Kubotan, but with the added bonus of it having a blade if necessary The action on it initially was a bit stiff but a little bit of oil and it loosened up. It feels solid. I have the older version of this knife(shown on the left side of the pictures). And though the older version is not bad, I like this version better. It just feels sturdy and easier for me to get a good grip on.(My palm width is about 4 inches.) I have a few different Gerber knives, folders and fixed blades. The Gerber Freeman model is one of my all time favorite Gerber knives. I have the fixed blade and folding versions. There are lots of choices for knives under $35. This is a good value in my humble opinion.

Beautiful design, horrendous execution
The Remix is a textbook example of an amazing design with a horrible execution. This may be one of the most aesthetically beautiful "every day carry" folding knife designs ever conceived by a commercial manufacturer. The ring at the front of the handle is both unique and useful, and the skeletonization of the handle is attractive without being ostentatious. If it were made well using premium steel and other materials, Gerber could charge 10x the asking price for it. Unfortunately, Gerber's decision to skimp on literally every aspect of its production makes it almost entirely useless for its intended purpose. The quality of the materials and construction is horrendous. I had to purchase and return two of these before I finally received one that was "acceptable." The first one would not stay locked upon opening more often than not, making it incredibly dangerous to use. It could easily close on your hand when it wasn't locked. The second one locked open fine, but it had several areas where the finish on the darkened outer handle was scratched (or missing) right out of the box. The third time was the charm, because this one locks open and has no obvious flaws in its finish. Unfortunately, the issues only continue from there. The blade steel used is among the cheapest grades of steel available, which means it won't stay sharp if you use it to cut anything more durable than paper. It is also almost impossible to open the blade with one hand because there are no bearings used in its construction. The blade is screwed down between two copper bushing rings. It is so tight out of the box that you need two hands to open it. As others have reported, any attempt to loosen the tension on the blade will likely result in the whole knife falling apart. In the end, provided you get an "acceptable" one, it's only real uses are: (1) looking nice, and (2) cutting open the tape used to seal cardboard boxes. So five stars for design, and zero stars for performance = 3 stars overall.

Gran navaja, EXCELENTE CALIDAD!!!
