Excellent sound. Superb build. Overall a worthy pair of headphones.
I want to make this clear before we go on: these are CELEBRITY-ENDORSED. Yes. Just like the Beats by Dre. Just like the Souls by Ludacris. These are headphones that are endorsed by celebrities and are thus expected to be a fashion accessory just as much as it is a piece of audio hardware.A question that I had about these was what's the difference between the FW 2001 model and the 2003 model? Well, from what I can tell, they changed the design of the lids to be more of a reservoir-shape as opposed to a flatter shape (makes them look a little less tacky), they fixed up some minor sound-balance issues, touched up the build a bit more, and there are new colors and stuff. In short, is it worth the $50-100 more? (you can find the original 2001 on amazon for like 170) I wouldn't say so if you're just looking for a good pair of headphones, but if you want something a bit better looking and more reliable in the end, the 2003s might be for you. Now, here's what most of you want to hear: the FW 2000 series top the Beats by Dre in sound quality and build, HANDS DOWN. In terms of SQ, they come close to the Audio Technica ATH-m50s, which are regarded as one of the best (if not the best) pair of headphones up to the $200 range. Now let's go a little more in-depth.SOUND QUALITY:I own just one other pair of "audiophile-standard" headphones, which are the Sennheiser HD 555s. Unlike those, the FW 2003 are CLOSED-BACK, meaning they are designed for isolation. As a consequence, unlike open-ended headphones such as the HD 555s, the FW 2003 have a slightly reduced soundstage and a more "closed-off" listening experience-- but don't let that turn you off! The FW 2003s are amazing in terms of SQ. As many of you may already know, these come with a built-in amplifier, which provides enhanced volume as well has a slight augmentation in sound-quality. There is also a bass-boost function for those who are in desperate need of a punchy, crisp bass sound (that's mainly why I bought these). You can listen to these without turning the amplifier on, but it just won't sound as good. Anyway, these sound absolutely amazing. They have great bass response (especially when the bass boost is turned on), great mids, and great highs. If you're looking for a pair of headphones with a more well-rounded frequency than the Beats by Dre, look no further- these are for you. They're good for almost any genre. Classical, rock, R&B, and all that good stuff, you're gonna want to put the FWs on the "ON" amp (it provides a flat frequency response and doesn't distort with the bass boost). With pop, dubstep, hard rock, and more bass-heavy genres, feel free to switch the amp to "Bass boost" and be prepared for an enjoyable head-banging time.In all, the sound for the FW 2003 gets a 9/10 (because it's excellent, but there are better headphones for SQ in this price range)BUILD:These are built mainly out of matte-finish plastic on the exterior (keeps the headphones from getting all grimy from your fingerprints and dirt), and probably aluminum-alloy on the interior. What I'm trying to say is that these are STURDY. They're not gonna break from casual daily use, and they'll probably stand up to some intense headbanging or in your backpack or something like that. The headband almost bends all the way at 180 degrees (don't try this. they can still snap) and they fold up in case you want to put them into a case or something (there's a decent one included with purchase). It comes with a detachable cable, so that's a plus because you might accidentally ruin the cable, which just means that you can buy the cable, rather than go out and spend another 200 on the whole shabang. Batteries are found in a nice reservoir-shaped chamber on one side of the headphones, and it clicks and falls out nicely as is held in place by a string (nice addition for those who hated fumbling for dropped lids whilst changing out the batteries in the Beats by Dre)Build gets a 10/10. Plastic is slightly iffy, but it's good material and holds up well.STYLE:Like I said before, these have a nice matte-finish and also incorporate the trademark Fanny Wang design (some sort of wavy pattern that gives some texture). I have the red/white model, and I have to say that they look pretty darn sick. Sure, the Beats by Dre may be more appealing to some, but for those that are looking for something a little less pretentious and a bit more classy, these may be for you. If you're not satisfied with the colors, you can also always customize your own design on the Fanny Wang website.Style gets a 8.5/10. A bit bulky and kind of heavy. Some may prefer Beats by Dre style... or maybe something else?COMFORT:These are fairly comfortable headphones. Now I might be a bit biased because my previous pair of headphones were the Sennheiser HD 555s, which are part of a line of headphones which are known for their EXTREME comfort. But the FW 2003s held up well to my high standards. Given, the fanny wangs do get a bit sweaty, especially in hot weather, and they clamp a tiny bit tight at first, making it a bit painful to listen after maybe about an hour and a half of straight use. Surprisingly, the pleather cups and memory-foam-esque headband material adjust to the user after a short period of use, and comfort only goes up from there. Unfortunately, I can't say that I'm the best source for this piece of the review because the FWs do not fit entirely on my head. This is probably not going to be an issue for 95% of people in the world, but my head is pretty darn big, and I had to extend the headband to the max on the FWs, and they still do not fit 100% comfortably on my head. It's a bit of a let-down, seeing as I was so excited to try these out, but I managed to figure out a way to place them on my head so as to avoid most of the discomfort.Overall, comfort gets 8.5/10. They are a bit heavy, get a bit hot, and may not fit all heads, but most people will be able to adjust.OVERALL:The Fanny Wang 2003 are a great pair of headphones with excellent sound, build, and style. They may not be for everyone, and at a high retail price of $250 ($300 if you want to customize on their website), they're not the best bang for the buck. However, for those lucky enough to acquire these great headphones at $200 on amazon or cheaper some place else, these are definitely worth buying. I do not regret buying these at all, and I recommend them to pretty much every friend who might be interested (a bit counter-intuitive, because I kinda want to be the only kid at school who has these HAHA). If you're looking into a more balanced sound for $50-$100 less, I would say go for the Sennheiser HD 555s, or better yet, the Audio-Technica ATH-m50s. Both are great alternatives and many people would be satisfied with either. The Fanny Wang 2003 get a 9.5/10, simply because they are a wonderful pair of headphones and definitely destroy every other celebrity-endorsed pair on the market. Don't get the Beats, Sol Republics, Souls, or any other celebrity headphones. Get the Fanny Wangs. As long as you're willing to look past the slightly hefty price point, I guarantee that you will be satisfied.

Decent pair of headphones depending on how cheap you can manage to get them
I was in the market for some new headphones and my friend had recommended these Fanny Wangs. See said he preferred them over the Beats by Dre, which are commonly said to be over priced for what they are. I was looking into all brands, from Sennheiser to Bose to V-Moda. I decided to take a shot on these Fanny Wang 2003's strictly based on their cheap price of $99 as opposed to their retailed $250. Worth a shot right? I had high hopes for them when I received the package. Then came my doubt. I took the Fanny Wang box out of the shipping box and immediately noticed that the writing on the Fanny Wang box was white instead of the blue I had seen in unboxing videos. Maybe they changed their boxes I thought. I then proceeded to remove the outer cover and found that the actual box part of the packaging was severely damaged. I then began to worry quite a bit. Did I just spend $100 for a fake pair of headphones? I powered through to the headphones themself and examined them with great attention to detail. I immediately noticed the clip on the carrying case was different from the ones ive seen on every other case in unboxing and review videos. But once I got to the headphones I calmed down a little bit. The headphones, at least from what I can see, appear to be the real deal. They came with all the proper accessories and the duo jack cable. They are made of all the proper materials and all the details match up properly. And most importantly they sound good. They produce a very clear sound and turning the amp on really gives them a little extra something. When you turn the bass boost on you are met with a respectable amount of bass but it will by no means blow your mind. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I don't know about you but I don't want a headache from the constant pounding of a bass in my ear. So yes, they sound good. Do they sound great? That opinion could vary from individual to individual. Can you get better sounding headphones? Yes. Can you get cheaper better sounding headphones? Yes. But the whole selling point of these headphones is their style. These are very stylish headphones. They are exceptionally bulky though. They sit very wide once they are on the head. But since these will be used mainly for relaxing around the house and passing time during plane rides and long trips in the car that is not a deal breaker for me. In all honesty I could care less what the condition of the box is or if the clip on the case is correct so long as the headphones themselves are real and sound good. From my examinations these headphones are real. And they do sound good. I rated this product 4 stars though for two reasons. The first being that the packaging it arrived in was very damaged and they could, in fact, sound better. The second reason is because the audio jack on one end of the duo jack cable is sitting slightly crooked; which for somebody like me, who pays attention to every detail, can be annoying. Overall though, this product is worth a shot at the relatively low price of $100.
