Battle of Falling Waters 1863: Custer, Pettigrew and the End of the Gettysburg Campaign Paperback – July 16, 2013

I really enjoyed the story about the retreat after the battle of Gettysburg. The author gave his historical perspective on the days after the climatic Pickett's Charge. It helped me understand some of the weather and terrain encountered in the days following the battle at Gettysburg and follows each period with quotes from different participants involved. It gave me a better perspective of how the South successfully retreated after the battle and different skirmishes along the way. A good book for anyone with an interest in the Gettysburg Campaign.

I would have liked to have seen more detail of the battle. The author used many personal records and reports which were good. However, I would prefer to have seen his own summary of those records. Also, I would have preferred more detailed maps to go along with his text. With the importance of this battle in the whole Gettysburg event, I was hoping for more a complete report.

Really good short book on the last days of the Gettysburg Campaign. I'm a real Pettigrew supporter because he was actually the true leader of Pickett's Charge.

First book I've read of the retreat from Antietam. I lived in the area and know the country side well, it was easy and informative reading.

I was hoping for more. Primarily composed of quotes from participants. Little analysis of what should have happened vs. what did happen. Some lives were lost with no clear objective by Meade. This book is very brief, 87 pages.
