Junior Groovies: Race Cars -- Storybook, Toys and Fun Facts Board book – September 14, 2009

My 4-year-old son received this for Christmas. He loves reading the book and even I have learned a few things I hadn't gleaned from the other books he's made me read about race cars. The book is colorful and the pictures are good quality.But I do have a couple of complaints: On the toy cars included, the wheels do not move, which makes it frustrating for my son to play with them as he is used to Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars. Also, because of the box built into the binding end of the book (where the toy cars are stored), the book can't be laid down flat to read so it's a bit awkward to hold when reading.Finally, for a book whose subject and text seem aimed at 4-6 year olds, who are generally reading books with "real" pages, it was odd that this book had foam-core, board-book style pages.

This was the first book we got in this series of books. This is a good idea for the many subjects. Our grandson loves cars so even as a 2 year old he liked this very much. Of course he was supervised but for us it wasn't a problem as a choking hazard. This is one of the first things he goes for while at our house so length of play has been outstanding. The lid on the end of the box for storage had to be reinforced since it came off easily. He has learned a lot about the different cars with this book and adds to his collection of Matchbox cars.
