Sketching People: Faces and Figures (The Art of Drawing)

This is a collection of drawings from the author's sketchbook. Very, very little technique or instruction. Two pages out of 64 are text/instruction. The rest are his pictures. Here's the "instruction" for drawing heads: "When drawing just the head, move from the general elements to the specifics or, once you have worked out the overall space it will take up on the page, you could then move on to defining the dimensions and the form of an important detail (an eye, the nose, etc) Move from this to constructing the entire head and the relationships of each part to another, moving from the specifics to the general elements. The choice of which of these two approaches to adopt will depend on the artist's' attitude and preferences, but also on the position in which they find the subject they intend to sketch." In other words, you can draw the head, then add the eyes, or you can start with the nose then add the rest of the face, depending on your mood. Does that teach you to draw?

Great artist demonstrates his skills!
I love Civardi’s art work and having already purchased some of his books I saw this on Amazon. It was second hand and very cheap but in good condition. It’s A4 size and 64 pages and shows many sketches of people, statues and faces. It’s really complimentary to his “Heads & Faces” book and they could probably be sold as one item. Just as in some other books he couldn’t resist dropping a couple of topless women in there but I’ve never seen any in the places I do street sketching!

More like artist's portfolio than an actual study book
Does not explain much on how to actually draw anything. Contain lots of artist's work, but no explanations. The only text found inside the book was describing who is on the drawing, or why the artist decided to draw that person. Very bad choice for those, who want to learn anything about life drawings!
