The fast way to manage Cisco ASA device
This book is designed for a network administrator where he/she required to configure and manage cisco ASA device as fast as possible. The book just give you some basic theory then guide you through the rest of exercise to manage or configure thing. You will need some other additional book to fill up information related to security theory if you wish too.You should choose this book if you have the below criteria:- You have a background knowledge about networking such as IP address, subnet mask, network topology, DHCP, DNS, firewall...- You have some experience configuring cisco router or switch.- You have experience with managing network environment.- Your job required you to manage cisoc ASA immediately.- You have some budget to invest in real ASA device to test your own configuration. An author explain to you in a very easy to understand. Plus a valuable appendix about security theory at the end of the book. Before you pick that book, you need to pick another book about cisco router or switch. I feel that an author didn't mention to much about how cisco IOS work in this book like another router book that he wrote.I gave this book 4 start because I feel disappoint one thing, it is about the quality of an ink of this printing book. I found that the quality of the printing seem not good for me to read. The screen shot is not clear. This should be an improve point for the next release of this book.Thank,Kanel

Great book !!
Great book !! I am a CCNP R&S, but a newbie on ASA devices. This book has helped me a lot for grasping a quick knowledge of Cisco ASA devices. Clearly and thoroughly explained, useful examples, succinct concepts, ... , this book covers all I needed for introducing myself in the world of Cisco ASA devices. If I may do just a couple of suggestion for future editions:First, I don't see the point of sometimes repeating the commands twice, first within the text, and secondly within a screenshot. For instance, at page 42 (Configure Port Address Translation), the set of four commands are repeated twice.Second, why not quote the VIRL platform, instead of always referring to real equipment? I have been following the text with VIRL virtualization without any problem. I strongly believe that VIRL is a great platform for learning Cisco technologies, so it deserves to be quoted at any Cisco textbook.Anyway, thank you very much to Don Crawley for his great work, and I would like to encourage him in the same way with other topics.PD: sorry for my English, I am writing from Spain.

Problems with TOC/Index
This review has nothing to do with the content of the book. From what I've seen, it appears to be quite good. If you plan to use this Kindle book strictly as a "text book" to learn the topics covered, I suppose that this would be fine. However, I need to be able to skip about in the book, and unfortunately, the table of contents or index of this book makes it useless for me. I suppose there may be structurally wrong with how the index or TOC interact with the contents. This is the first time I've had this sort of problem with a Kindle book. FWIW, I've returned the Kindle edition, and I'm about to buy the dead-tree version.

Best Networking Aides to use.
As a returning customer of Soundtraining's books, these books are well thought out and made for anyone who needs to either quickly learn the concepts of networking and security, or simply need to setup a router or security appliance quickly. I have also emailed Don personally and he has always gotten back to me quickly and has been very helpful. So if you are a new person or one who is a little rusty to the world of Networking, these are the books and online resources you are going to want to use.

Jump Start+
If you are like me and you are experienced but just need something to get a working configuration going quickly, this is for you. For me, this sort of instruction sticks, where drawn-out verbiage loses my attention pretty quickly.

The first chapter it explains OK. After that it is vague . The examples are not clear and you can not apply on real 5505.

Great if you've not touched anything Cisco.
Firstly, I do think this is a clear and well written book, specifically if your are new to Cisco. I purchased this as I was impressed with the authors videos. For me however, I didn't think there was anything in here you couldn't get online from Cisco for free. If like me you have worked on 6509's with FWSMs, configured IOS FW's or have experience with Cisco routers and switches and happy on the CLI, I don't this book will help you. I was hoping for a bit more detail on the ASA specifically, the ASA's are extremely intuitive to configure from the off if you get the Cisco language. I was up and working in 30 mins with IPSEC and all that jazz. The book missed the one thing I was unsure on and that was setting the ASDM image to load but with the help off "?" It was easy to find out it's "asdm image disk0:/asdm645.bin" and then you are away.. I've still marked 5 starts and the book is great for the right audience.
