Read if you have or suspect that you or someone you love has apnea!
Sleep or Die is a recommended read for persons:-Suspecting that they may snore-Having a diagnoses of sleep apnea-Sharing a bed with a person who snores or who obviously stops breathing while sleeping. The book succinctly details health risks to persons suffering sleep apnea, and to those who share a bed with them. It also details surgical, mechanical and physiological methods a sufferer can try to treat symptoms and actions to reverse them.As a person suffering from Apnea and now treating it relatively effectively using a C-PAP device, I especially appreciated information concerning the importance of:(1) regular check-ups with your sleep specialist (one of the great things about modern C-PAP devices is that they collect data from which the quality of your sleep can be extrapolated by your specialist);(2) monitoring the advancement of C-PAP technology, which continues to improve, and actively considering regular replacement of your legacy device with current state of the art device (i.e. just like you can benefit from replacing your computer every few years).(3) breathing exercises which can naturally improve your breathing functionThe book suffers from a bit of a "cutesy tone" and clunky fonts. But, if you can get beyond these flaws, you will be rewarded with a wealth of critical information for your health.

What the sleep doctors forgot (?) to tell you about sleep apnea
Hate the C-PAP? There's hope.....really.This the third book I have read on sleep apnea (SA) and it's hands down the best. The reader comes away with a complete understanding of SA. Author William Headapohl offers the reader easy, doable tools for taking charge to overcome their SA.... and their nightly attachment to that blankety-blank C-PAP.It was stunning that such vital info was not forthcoming from my medical sleep specialist. Thanks to this very easy-to-read book, I got the help I needed; it made all the difference.

Excellent resource book for sleep apnea
I would recommend this book to all individuals and all health care professionals personally dealing with sleep apnea or wanting an informative book on the subject. It is well written and enjoyable to read. It has helped me as a RN with 27 years of experience primarily in the ICU, deal with being diagnosed with severe sleep apnea.

99% of sleep apnea is hocum
One of these days, government and insurance is going to figure out that sleep apnea, for the most part is medical fraud....usually directed at people who have insomnia.Basically, it amounts to this. Roughly 1/2 the population suffers from some form of insomnia due to the fact that we use electric lights (it really is as simple as that). The only effective treatment for insomnia that can be used immediately are sleeping pills. Almost all other treatments are various frauds. Long term management of insomnia involves carefully tracking your sleep wake cycles and storing up small amounts of sleep deficit in order to change over time when you sleep and then being extremely rigid in maintaining sleep, wake times. Many, MANY people naively think they can get help by having a "sleep study" done. Instead of helping, 100% of the people who walk through the door are given a CPAC, and told they have sleep apnea and "could die" from hypoxy without it. Flat out, bald faced lies.Occasionally there is the legitimate patient....tends to be 100 pounds or more obese, has uncontrolled high blood pressure and diabetes, SEVERE allergies, damage to the face someone or some other over blockage. They have trouble breathing and almost always breath through their mouth. Their hands are cold and feet are numb. That's REAL hypoxia.Yet everyone will be treated like that. Fraud. Meanwhile, the often serious problems people come in with are ignored.Often, these chuckleheads can't answer basic questions like...what is sleep apnea. You did a sleep study including film....could you show me an example. Can you explain why that is a problem.

Very repetitious
This is not the resource for people who suffer from Centralized Sleep Apnea or CSA. It is written for people who suffer for from Obstructive Sleep Apnea. The authors are very repetitious in their findings and treatment(s) of OSA. They also did not go into any great detail of the causes of OSA. Rather than paying $17 and change for this book I would borrow it from the public library if you're curious.
