Not for cutting beards.
I'm 77 years old. When I ordered this razor I had a beard about 3/4" long. I only shave 2 or 3 times a month so I found out quickly that this wasn't the razor for the job. I'm sure that this razor would be great for someone who shaves daily.

Excellent razor! Cuts manly facial stubble closer than a blade.
Excellent razor! Don't waste your time and money on anything else. Don't waste your money on the liquid recharging station; just clean after each use using the brush that is provided, blow out any other trimmings or skin with a can of compressed air (Walmart for $3), and clean the rest with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol. This razor is light in weight, but not cheap lite. Right out of the box I shaved my 55 year old, hard, 3-day real man stubble with absolutely not a single issue. I've owned a Braun for the last 10 years and nothing compares, though I thought I'd try a different brand this year... what a waste of time. Don't waste your $ on Vifycim or Panasonic or Philips Norelco razors... tried them all... sent them all back for a refund. This razor cuts smooth, close, but not damaging my skin, full charge quick, I use a can of air and the small brush that was provided to clean the blade after each use. My old Braun was still working but the generic replacement blade did not cut as close as the original... so purchase an extra replacement blade cartridge when you buy this razor; manufacturer recommends head replacement every 12 months, however following the cleaning guidelines I mentioned, it can last much, much longer. What comes in the box? small 1" head cleaning brush, power cord, razor, zippered case, and actual instructions/guide booklet. Razor has several indicator lights; 1 to show need for recharge, 1 for head replacement, 1 showing low charge. Razor comes with a flip-up sideburn cutter. Shaving head swivels to the contours of your face.

Does what a good razor should do
Purchased this electric razor a few months ago after I cut myself shaving with my Gillette Track 3. This was not a small cut, nor the first. But enough was enough; at 65 years old, my skin had changed enough that I needed to make a change. While I don't believe this razor provides as smooth of a shave as the Track 3, it does the job with less mess as I am not using shaving cream, etc. Also, I can shave fast without worry of cutting myself again. It does not leave my lips with a razor burns or create skin rash, so all is good. Some posters have noted the cleaning station expense. I like others use the cleaning station once a week, and just wash the head off daily (not always) after releasing it from the razor. I recharge the razor weekly, typically when I use the cleaning station. I recently was away from the house for a week without the charger and had no problem with a weak battery. On the downside, to get the best shave possible, pull your skin tight with your free hand. Expect to cover areas a few times, such as the chin (perhaps half-a dozen times.) Still faster than my old Tract 3 with little to no cleanup. Small hairs missed, that are say 3/16' or more require multiple passes. Also the side-burn trimmer takes some getting used to as it is somewhat hidden by the razor itself.Five stars vs four. I found no fault with this razor other than the rather high price, and I would purchased it again based on my experience during the few months I have owned it.

Went back to this Model
i have been using Braun Foil Shavers ever since I started shaving, first my father's when I only need two shave once a week 50 years ago, then my own. I have used many models, not just Braun, but always came back to this brand. The 7 series really worked best for me. I bought the newer 9 series, but the wider cutting surface did just not live up to the task to get into corners around the nose, ears and chin. I ordered another one of these now, just so I have one in case they discontinue this model. I was glad to see that it comes without the cleaning cradle, but with the electric contacts, because I have two from previous machines, saving quite a bit of cost. For those of you who are unfamiliar with proper use of the cleaning procedure, here are a few hints to safe you quite a few bucks.Of course, Braun wants you to spend a lot on cleaning fluid. After using the shaver ALWAYS take off the cutting block, shake out and brush off any debris with the provided brush. Blow off as much hair as you can. I only do a cleaning cycle with the liquid when the battery charge is down to 2 bars or I go on a multi day trip. Do NOT leave the fluid cartridge in the cleaning stand. The fluid has a high alcohol content that will evaporate your money fast. ALWAYS take the cartridge out after a cleaning operation and reseal it with the original lid (press down hard, so it clicks)Well, what can I say, best shaver on the market.

Shaves close and lasts a long time on a charge.
I had switched to a Series 9 thinking that it would give a closer shave and longer battery life than my old Series 7. NOPE! Just because the Series 9 is higher up the food chain doesn't mean it's any better than the Series 7. I retired the 9 and bought this newer Series 7 and it works great! Plus the blade replacement is cheaper and easier to find. This newer model has replaceable batteries to boot! Probably not batteries you can buy in Walmart, but still, you can replace them yourself without having to take it into a shaver shop.

Typical Braun quality.
This is my second series 7 Braun shaver and this one is noticeably more quiet than the first and my other series (3 & 5) shavers of the past. Works well, however, the trimmer appears to not have been subjected to a redesign and I fully expect that the spring will eventually come out from its moorings and the trimmer will not close properly - this is a weakness for this design that simply has not been addressed!

The design does not allow you to shave up to a hairline.
The effective cutting zone is well within the outside boundaries of the head so you have no idea where your shaving to when coming up to sideburns, mustache, or beard. Works great in "open" areas with no hairline boundary.

Benchmark Alright
According to my research before the purchase, Braun Series 7 was known as the industry benchmark for electric shavers. I agree with that statement. Compared to my previous two Panasonics, it shaves closer and smoother, but slightly messier as I notice small amount of debris on the sink after each use. The battery life is excellent.

Pulls whiskers and really hurts
This turned out to be a big disappointment, especially since in most things I’m a Braun fan. I only electric shave every 3 days (I’m 77 - people expect that of me). This razor would grab some whiskers about every 5 seconds and give them a really quite painful tug - a big ‘Ouch!’ tug. Last week I became so fed up with being persecuted by my razor that I just threw it out. After less than a year of ownership. It felt so good to be rid of it. I would normally have given it to Goodwill, but I didn’t want anyone else to experience the pain that I did. So in the garbage it went…where it belonged. The Panasonic linear which i bought around the same time is, and always has been, far superior for comfort and closeness, although doesn’t hold a charge quite as long.
