Rocky Colavito: Cleveland's Iconic Slugger
Rocky's prime was just a bit before my time but I always had a curiosity about him. Could have been his cool name and the fact he hit monster home runs. As a Royals fan, I do recall the trouble he and Dick Howser got into with the police in the early 1980s but I did not recall the details. This is an extremely well written biography that is a quick read. I am a stickler about proof reading, especially in items I purchase. I expect them to be mostly if not completely free of simple errors. After 30+ years of grading college papers I seem to have a pretty good eye for them and a very low tolerance. This book is entirely free of those types of errors and that makes for a quick and pleasant read. The author does an excellent job of citing his sources and those sources are sound.I did learn a lot about Rocky and the Cleveland Indians. I'm not convinced Rocky belongs in the Hall of Fame but had he stayed in Cleveland his entire career I'm convinced he would have made it easily. Frank Lane was a real piece of work! He traded away Rocky, Roger Maris, and Norm Cash as they were beginning to peak, along with dozens of others. He did that everywhere he went and had very little success! How he managed to keep getting jobs is beyond me. It is a shame that the pool of those who read the book may be limited by the subject and title. This book should appeal to just about any old school baseball fan, not just those from Cleveland. I found it interesting and enjoyable and now the man with the cool name is no longer a mystery.

Well written biography
Rocky Colavito was one of my favorite baseball players, although I am a Baltimore fan - the team Rocky cranked out 4 homeruns in a single game against. I liked his style and skill as a player. I remembered him as a Cleveland Indian and this biography filled me in on his personal life and the other teams he played for. And like many teenage girls at that time my sister liked his good looks. I think this book is a must read for any Rocky Colavito/Cleveland Indian fan. Particularly great for anyone who saw him play.

Heart of Cleveland
Great book about an underrated baseball player. Rocco Colavito was great for the game. He loved baseball and he loved the fans of the game. It’s a shame he hasn’t made the hall of Fame. There are some very special people who made Baseball special..made youngsters smile…and always did it with grace and integrity. That is “Rocky Colavito”.

Don't Knock ( a Book About) "The Rock"!
I bought this as a gift for a friend, who, like I, idolizes The (true) Rock (don't know him!). My friend hadn't read it yet when I last spoke to him, so I can't say how much he likes it, but I have no doubt he'll love it! Now if only I could borrow it from him!

Excellent read about a man that should be in the Baseball Hall of Fame!
Rocky was a powerful ball player during the 50s and 60s with impressive home run and RBI numbers. He was always a gentleman with fans of all ages, especially patient with all the children wanting autographs! Unfortunately, he was unfairly traded by a bonehead of a general manager! This book well represents the man that he was and still is!

An excellent account of the life of an outstanding man!
I have been a Rocky Colavito fan since childhood and I really enjoyed this biography by Mark Sommer. Mark did thorough research and having Rocky as a direct resource made it even better.I had the privilege of meeting Rocky several years ago and have great respect for him as a person. This biography definitely confirmed my beliefs! Well done!
