Zappers with a grid small enough to kill fungus gnats or thrips are hard to find. Fungus gnats are particularly exasperating for gardeners because they reproduce very rapidly and are persistent. Zappers meant for mosquitos often do not touch them. This model has a small grid and works really well. The extra bulb is nice. The bulbs do not last long, which is why they provided a spare. I experimented with ordering some standard fluorescents of the same size, which are readily available on Amazon for about $7 and should last a long time. The standard flourescents have normal white flourescent light. To my surprise the lights attract the same number of flying insects regardless. I would not have expected that. That's important because it means the lights can be replaced at a low cost with long-lasting substitutes, plus the blue light effect is optional; you can use a standard fluorescent as a nightlight for example.

I was concerned that the light was not like my other bug zapper, but it sure works! Lots of dead mosquitos, the way I like it!

If you want this to kill the insects on contact while touching the zapper spend the extra $20 and purchase another brand here on Amazon. Didn’t work at all the insects would just fly by without a problem.

Bulb lasted about 6months. Nice to have a new bulb, but I can’t get into the bulb cage, only into the carcass tray. I didn’t know how fruit flies would like it, but the tray was full. It also attracted a housefly and a moth.It's still easier to zap fruit flies with the electric paddle.The return window is closed, so I'm donating it.

My house has a lot of flies that's why I bought this. It helps kills the flies as I have kids to protect them. It has bright blue light which attract the flies. These lights are all protected so that kids do not touch. It is plug in. Tubes are easily replaceable.

Very poor qulity plastic come aldready broke cant change the light why comme with extra light if i cant change it? Is a totally garbage and is it made with the best garbage plastic cheap.
