Works better than white compressed charcoal
I used a great deal of conte crayon in college, along with compressed charcoal in black, but I had never worked with compressed charcoal in white. Well, I used it and I prefer the white conte crayon. In the photo I used compressed charcoal in black and white and then went over the eyes in black and white conte crayon. The white compressed charcoal blends well but is so flat it doesn't layer well. The white conte crayon layers nicely and makes the eyes shine. :)

great for what they are
i had to purchase these for my drawing ii course. we did a fabric study under spotlights and had to use compressed sticks (these specifically for the highlights) and i actually really liked it. they're brighter than i thought and blend great

Not white charcoal
These worked great for college art class! One did break during shipping, but it was actually easier to use in a smaller piece. I would order again

These are Great!
This was exactly what I was looking for! Unlike some reviewers, mine did not arrive broken at all. They were perfectly fine and work really well. It Is great for blending and is very smooth. The only reason why the conte crayon is broken is because when I was using it, it broke, probably from the pressure I was applying. I would definitely buy these again 👍

Great product which breathed new life into my art
I bought these white, black and sanguine crayons to try my hand at the famous 'aux trois crayons' technique and, though far from producing artworks of the future, I found them an utter joy to use. Sketches get thrown down quickly, with form and value and minimal effort. It just feels liberating in a way I can't really describe.I used a variety of papers, from Clairefontaine multitechnique, through to Mi Teintes, as well as a little standard sketching paper, and enjoyed every stroke I applied to the paper. Not only was it fun, but it made me consider things like value and colour that little bit more. For the money, you can't go wrong - and if you're worried about them being broken on arrival ; 1. these weren't 2. the first thing I did was snap them in tow to make them more comfortable in my hand...

Performs as you'd hope and expect
This sketching crayon, used alone, or in conjunction with the famous 'trois crayons' colours is a delight to use.It lays down well on a variety of surfaces - from simple sketching paper through to textured pastel papers.the consistency is perfect, it blends and smudges well, and it feels natural - lines can be applied swiftly and effectively.A drawback may be that it smudges really easily. Once you;ve done your drawing, it would be best to use a fixative to secure your work.
