Disappointing tale as a female Captain Hook who seeks revenge against Peter Pan
I bought my copy and I was very disappointed in the sex reversal story of a female Captain Hook seeking revenge Peter Pan since she matured and tried to get feed her to tick-tock the crocodile. This was a great premise and has action, the characterization is not well-developed and the plot is weak. Peter Pan is a dark murderous figure, and Hook's attempt to save Wendy is not developed very well. I hate to give a bad review--but the best thing about the book, and what caught my eye, was the great cover art of the very beautiful Captain Jaydon Hook

Fantastic take on an old story
Love Peter Pan as a kid. Hook the movie was an all time favorite of mine. As an adult this book put a fantastic, more mature spin on the story. Casting Pan as a villain was a very interesting plot point. I hope as the series develops we get to see more of his dark side. I enjoyed Hook and her crew of pirates. I think a great foundation has been laid to develop the world of Neverland in a way that revitalizes my childhood fondness of the original story but in a grittier, darker way. I really look forward to the release of book two!

I Expected to Love this Book, but....
Too short! This book promises to be so much that it's not. It's a retelling of Peter Pan from Captain Hook's point of view, and Hook is female. And part mermaid. But it so unsatisfactorily never explains why. There's lots of swashbuckling if you're into that sort of thing, and maybe if I read the others in the series I'd learn more about the female and mermaid thing, but it didn't really leave me wanting to read the next book.

Interesting Twist on Peter Pan
Ms Smark has written an exceptional twist on the Peter Pan story!! Her characters are well developed and plot is an interesting and intriguing look at a story that has seen so many tellings of the original format . So far, some of the original characters have not shown up, however I am sure that they will in future books. Ms Snark has incorporated the names and characters from other children's book (although Peter Pan was not really written for just children!!)I truely look forward to reading the next book in the series! The Story is a job well done!!

delightful twist on J. M. Barrie's classic tale
I read the Kindle edition of Hook: Dead to Rights. What if Peter Pan is the bad guy? In this delightful twist on J. M. Barrie's classic tale, Captain Jayden Hook embarks on a quest to rescue Wendy Darling from the clutches of Peter Pan.This is a quick, enjoyable read. The characters are well described and the scenes are full of action. Hook, as a former hostage of Pan, is believable as the protagonist, even though she's a pirate.I got the Kindle edition for free, at that price, its well worth reading. The biggest disappointment is how the end sets up the sequel.

Mixed feelings
To start, I gave this story 3 stars because it is well written with some great descriptions. However... I love enemy rewrites and origin stories, but I feel like the author missed some great opportunities for backstory and compelling character development. First of all, the story is incredibly short and reads more like a novella prequel or side story than a full blown, fleshed out novel. Second, I can tell that this author has some deep world building and character backstories...in her head or saved on her computer. The reader is only given the barest of hints as to why the main character is so angry and bent on revenge. But I can tell there is a great origin story there! I kept waiting for even a flashback scene/chapter and was sorely disappointed. There were also foreshadowing details that were never explored and I don't know if they'll ever be explored. I'll keep an eye on the next books in this series but I'm unsure if I'll continue reading.

A ton of fun!
The author definitely has a way with words. The language was often lyrical, clever, and a ton of fun to read. The characters were excellently fleshed out and entertaining. Hook's thought process was interesting to witness as a reader, and I loved how intelligent she was. I also enjoyed how a large chunk of the book was a single action scene, with highs and lows, twists and turns. Perhaps my biggest praise is that I want to read the next one!

Fun Diversion
Hook is a retelling of Peter Pan in which Pan is the bad guy and Hook is a female pirate.Snark's prose is straight forward and easy to read, and the book is fast, so it's a quick read. If you've never read anything by Snark, Hook is a good place to start because it's not a big time commitment.Pirates, Pan, happy-sparkle-flying dust, Neverland . . . it’s all fun and games and swashbuckling. I read Hook during the stress of the pandemic, and the story was an excellent diversion. There is a death scene that is so beautiful I cried.I wish it were longer. Wendy shows up, and we don’t get to know her very well before the book is done.Overall, a fun four stars.

An entertainingly eloquent piratical light read
A surprisingly semi-dark reworking of Peter Pan with a narrative voice that really stood out. Watch out Pan, this Captain Hook's got the balls to take you on without being a terrible cliche... or a man.No, this Captain Hook is female, half-human, half merfolk and all piratical leader. She's made it her mission to rescue the children Peter steals away to Neverland before he ditches them out of boredom. By ditches, we all know it means kills. Along with her crew of misfits, some former Lost Boys themselves with the magical scars to prove it, they're hunting down Pan's latest catch. But this time it's even more personal for Captain Jayden Hook; Pan's stolen a girl. And girls never get the same treatment as the boys...Now what I loved was the narration. It's all from Hook's POV, and the educated tone using florid language really worked for me. A few slip ups here and there where modern (or maybe just American-sounding) sland popped up and disrupted the flow (she refers to a source of "intel" at one point - eek!), but otherwise it really gave the good captain a solid tone of voice. None of that modern paranormal heroine routine either - she's a pirate captain and takes responsibilities seriously rather than rushing off to do things that make her Too Stupid To Live(TM).Another tiny little botheration would be the repetitions and contradictions when she muses about her crew members (she trusts them/she doesn't; they could stand up to her, they're cowards etc). Sometimes I wondered why characters questioned things that, supposedly, the pirates had been doing for years. I couldn't always get a hang of some of the character interactions; with First Mate Starkey, or later speaking to Tinker Belle. And I'll be honest, Buzz was a bit too modern/Americanised for how amazingly well done the rest of the setting was for this kind of light read.It is light, and it is the first in a series, but wonderfully enough while it does end on a cliffhanger of sorts, it feels like a well-rounded episode rather than a book cut into pieces. It's satisfying while leading on to the next, with plenty of foreshadowing scattered about to make it feel worth your while going forwards (I loves me some good foreshadowing and this has it in spades). No romances, but plenty of hints at things in the past.A quick and entertaining read with a strong voice - what's more to like? I'm going to have to keep an eye on this series.

I found this read unenjoyable.
This is meant to be a sort of twisted tale on the classic Peter Pan. When I read the synopsis I thought WOW! This should be great. However I really didn’t enjoy it. I found it quite boring and the first 4-5 chapters talked mostly about Hooks ship. I really wanted to like it and I only pushed through without DNF because it is only 230 pages.I’m not going to tell you not to read it because this is my own personal opinion on the book, but I have seen that it has some good reviews so maybe pick it up and check for yourself.I got my edition for free on Kindle. I however will not be carrying on with the trilogy.

Adult Peter Pan Story
This story is a story that is a fantasy Peter Pan spin-off where the characters aren't always human. This could sometimes be confusing when you read the story as they were doing things that humans wouldn't.To give it a fair chance I read it to the end. It was certyainly funny and exciting in parts but not enough for me to think that I must get the next book in the series. The end of this one seemed to fall a bit flat.

Different.
This was a different kind of read. Though holding true to the original stories for the most part this had a nice twist or two. It held my interest for the entirety of the plot but I remain uncertain of a female Hook, though that was an interesting point for the book. I’m unsure if I will continue the series as yet despite this being well written.

Captain Hook - the ultimate unreliable narrator!
Jayden Hook is the captain of the good ship Revenge. and she's got a score to settle with the evil Peter Pan. Can she save Wendy from Pan's clutches? Despite the suspicion that Hook is a very unreliable narrator indeed, this novella is a great read. It's pacy, well-written and a refreshing take on the old children's classic
