Fishy smell, pale tea.
Smells like fish. Tastes fine, but is very mild.I got one of these from the manufacturer in exchange for a review.PROS:* Pretty tin* Sealed foil pack inside* Brewed tea tastes fineCONS:* Smells like fish, especially in the tin* For black tea, it is very pale and mild.DESCRIPTION:Pur-Eh is a type of dark, fermented tea. The bacteria and fungus varies by factory, storage conditions, etc. This particular brand has a lot of fish smell. That's the Aspergillus fungus. There are other varieties that smell more like beer, or wine, or anything else. The tea is loose, not a cake. The pieces are large and relatively pale. There is no recipe number on the inner bag, nor the tin.The tin is almost entirely in Chinese, which looks nice, but for the US market, is difficult.Production license number: 340 214 010 077Product standards : Q / AZCY01-2006Manufacturer: Wuhu Delin Fung Ltd.Producer: Anhui Tea Import and Export Co., Ltd.Factory site: Wuhu City, Anhui Province three mountain Mindanao Bridge International Tea City No. 121Manufacturers Contact: 4000080448Net content: 50gContains: Fresh leaves, buds, Class-1Warranty: 18 months storage at room temperatureStorage: moist, dark, avoid odorsThere are instructions on the side which say it's a mellow, green brew, and you can press the tea after brewing to get a little darker.Based on what the Internet shows for Pu'Er tea, this is very light. The description says it's from Yunnan, but the can says it's from Anhui. This is not the tea for me. I like a dark tea, black or red. No matter how much of this I used, I could not get a dark tea. The fermentation seems quick and does not smell right to me. It was not aged properly (it's loose leaves, not a cake). I think this was a rapid production, and that perhaps it was boiled briefly rather than steamed.Just guesses, I just know it could be much better. It's not horrible. It tastes fine, plain or sweetened. But the fish smell is a bit much.

Just likeKeemun really
This has a Keemun taste but is OK as such teas go. It is pre-broken up so is easy to use.

Not big on the fish smell, I read that it comes from the type of bacteria present during the long aging cycle. I have had other Pu-erh and it had no where near the strengh of this brand.

Smells/Tastes like fish or seaweed
Unflavored/Non-infused tea should be just tea. And tea doesn't taste like fish. If there is something else in this tea, they need to say what it is.I also have concerns with their health and diet claims. All their claims come from ingredients which my be present to a lesser extent in a black tea, but they are associated more with a green tea. If they use those claims, the need to include the amount of caffeine, catechins, theanine, etc a serving contains so it can be compared with other sources. There is nothing to show this product has any benefit over a good quality green tea which is more associated with the benefits they are asserting.Get a good green tea instead of this tea with all it's worrisome mysteries.

Smells like fish food
Background: I am a heavy tea drinker. I drink 3-4 cups a day. I like loose leaf tea and I usually use a French Press to make it. I like all kinds of tea: white, green, black, rooibosI read some of the reviews for this tea and I find myself thinking I received a bad batch or something went wrong. To me this tea (in its dry form) smells like fish food (that flaky stuff you get at the store). Really. I had 2 other people smell it and they agreed with me. I could barely get myself to drink it. Once I made it, the horrible smell didn't go away. I pinched my nose and tasted it. Thankfully it doesn't taste like fish food, but it was really bland nonetheless. I do not see myself making another cup of this ever again.*Complimentary item received for purpose of a review.
