Landmarks: 40 Years of Chandos

Many of the earlier Chandos discs were already in my collection but the box still represents a great bargain. All of the recordings have been carefully selected. Starting from disc no. 40 and working forward I have been introduced to composers I have never heard of but who wrote excellent music. At Amazon's price you cannot go wrong on this box.

Good cross section of little known composers and even has a disc by the RAF Band.

First let me state that I haven’t bought this set and this review is is more of a complaint in that Chandos issued a similar set ten years ago which I did buy. That set contained thirty CDs and was great value for money with some incredible performances including Kennedy in the Elgar Sonata, Hough in two Hummel Concertos, and janssons in Tchaikovsky’s 5th Symphony as well as the original version of Vaughn Williams London symphony. And my complaint; twenty of those discs are also contained on this set. Given how many wonderful discs Chandos have issued this is a pity.If you didn’t buy the previous set then this one is a no brainer, buy it before the price increases and enjoy, you won’t regret it. Even if you bought the previous set there is an argument that the twenty remaining discs justify the cost. But why was it necessary to duplicate so much even after 10 years.
