Size:2-(Pack) The Dovetail Marker is a very handy tool that can mark dovetails up to 1" long and has two ratios: 1:5 for softwood and 1:8 for hardwood. Cutting dovetails by hand can be a daunting task. This dovetail marking gauge makes laying out the angles simple and precise.

Just not really necessary.
It works, but in retrospect, I find an adjustable sliding bevel square to be a lot more useful. This tool is limited by its size, so you can't really even mark over-sized dovetails with it. For almost the same price, I got a Shinwa T-bevel on amazon and I simply find it to be more useful. Your mileage may vary, but I'd just suggest you look into it before buying this dedicated tool.

Not Recommended
Product came scratched with burrs and flashing on the workpiece side of the gauge that could severely damage a surface if the purchaser is unaware of them. Also the measurement marks on the 1:8 side are slightly skewed and one side is off about 1/32" from the other. Not a big issue, unless your using it to make tight fitting symetrical dovetails...

I absolutely love this product
I'm new to woodworking and wanted to do some old school joinery. I absolutely love this product. A very simple, fairly inexpensive tool that does its intended purpose well. If you make dovetail joints you should get good use out of this.

Good Quality / Never Used It
My husband got another tool that makes dove tails. So this became unnecessary. This one was made well and made a great stocking stuffer.

Dovetail marker with depth guage
Works well accurate, but hard plastic. I wold pay more for a brass one. I love cutting handout dove tails EXCELLENT for that and you can still use a router if you want that perfect look with large or small pins.

Terrible design means you can’t draw a square line and the angled lines at the same time. So you have to get out a square and visibly line up the two lines. Better markers allow you to draw the square across the end grain and then the tail lines without moving the marker. Plus it’s so small it’s unstable when marking the half pins. Pretty much worthless and no better than an bevel gauge. I’m going to toss mine and buy a good one..

Still working on how to use this effectively

Quite a handy little tool, this dovetail marker is.
There is one complaint I have. On this dovetail marker it would be useful if the purpose of the angle were indicated on the backside. The package does, however, tell you that the 1:5 side is for soft woods and the 1:8 is for hard woods. By the way, "1:5" means the slope of the dovetail angle on each side is 1 inch of height over 5 inches of run, "1:8" of course means 1 inch over 8 inches of run. The dovetail marker is 1 inch long for each angle set. Though there are a large number of potential angles that would be suitable for dovetails, the angles of 1:5 and 1:8 are the most common and thus used on this marker.I like this tool, and I think the hole that runs through the back block would allow it to be mounted on a rod attached in a jig. Such a jig would let one set it on the work-piece and easily slide the dovetail marker along to mark out multiple dovetails. I really like the fact that it could easily be applied to a jig.
