This Is The One
I just started home roasting a few months ago, and it didn't take long to start hearing about Ethiopian Yirgacheffe as I began searching out new and different coffees to try. This is by far the best tasting coffee I have ever had, and is one of the few coffees that actually tastes as good (if not better) as it smells with a smooth, fruity flavor and low acidity. I'm on my second bag of this Colonial Coffee brand, and every roast has come out bursting with tantalizing aromas and rich, smooth flavors (for reference, I use a DIY flour sifter/heat gun roaster). I tried some Yirgacheffe from another company, but the roast just didn't achieve the same levels of aroma and flavor that I get with Colonial Coffee. Granted, my roast may have just been off that day, but after about 6 phenomenal roasts with Colonial Coffee, I'm going to say it was the beans. The moisture content (this is not a scientific measurement) appears to be about 14% based on my net weight of 12 oz of roasted beans from 14 oz of green (roasting time was about 18 minutes).

Decent but Lots of unwanted "extras"
I roast using an air popper and in a skillet. Compared to other Tanzanian peaberry this seems similar but doesnt roast as evenly or consistently. This isn't a huge deal and I won't knock it for this. However, I do find a lot more non bean particulates (think bag strings) in this mix. Actually found a small stone in a batch! Thank goodness this didn't make its way into my grinder. For all the "extras", I'm knocking it 1 star for the loss in actual beans (since it's sold by weight) and 1 star for having so much and a stone! Otherwise it creates decent batches of coffee.

Disappointed
This is a decent mid- grade Tanzanian Peaberry bean. Seems to roast well up through first crack. Would have given it 4 stars, but the " 5 pounds " of beans only weighed out at 4 lbs 11oz. Disappointed. I realize they may have dried out some in storage, but 5 oz seems like a lot, especially in a sealed bag. I didn't see anything that mentions 5 lbs includes the weight of the bag in the description either. 😒

Not a high grade of bean
I was disappointed in these beans. Usually I buy specialty grade but these are not. There are many misshaped and split beans and other defects plus the beans seem to have a wrinkled skin and they do not roast evenly. I have been home roasting for five years so have some experience.

Not very good
Beans seem old and flavor is bitter. Was hopeful they would be the best tasting beans but they are the worst of the bunch will not buy these again.

Delicious!
As a home roaster selling to friends/coworkers, I was a little wary to try beans sold on Amazon. I mean, it's Amazon, not a specialty coffee page dedicated to selling green beans, right? I am super impressed by these! Will definitely be ordering more in the near future. Shipping was very quick as well!
