Highly recommended!
I highly recommend this book to anyone that is building a home, or has to deal with a HVAC contractor for any reason. I’ve heard so many horror stories about sub par HVAC instillations for innocent people who put their faith in their contractor. This book will give you the knowledge to ask the right questions to ensure you are getting the correct system/instillation. As well as general knowledge on how your HVAC works. I also had the writers company do my HVAC plans for my new home, and would also highly recommend them for that as well. Great book, full of first hand knowledge. A+++

This book is a MUST READ before Buying your next AC unit!
I have to say that this is an amazing book! Very easy read, and full of knowledge. Also I great testament of the author's personal life and how perseverance through life's ups and downs ending is success. My only regret is that the book was not available 2 months ago when I had my AC replaced. I can personally attest to a lot of the examples of what the wrong people say and do in the industry. Knowing what I know now, I'm sure the size of my AC is not correct! However, I am a realtor and this knowledge with now help benefit my clients!

In a perfect world...
One thing everybody does know is that if 3 HVAC guys look at your system, you will get 3 different recommendations. And if you're building a new house, or money is no object, only one of those guys can be right. This book has a basic overview and a couple examples of the thousands of things that can go wrong. Scary stuff. In older homes, there are all sorts of unknown unknowns which no meter or instrument will be able to pinpoint. I've had the guys with lab coats and PhDs, and amateurs who wanted to inspect the roof but forgot to bring a ladder. What did I learn? Three words: Trial and error. I did learn something else. Always use the smallest HVAC company that gets a perfect rating on Yelp. You will never find a company with 100 employees and a fleet of trucks that consistently gets 5 stars. Same in any service industry.I learned two important things from this book. Based on what this book says, I infer that if you live somewhere where the humidity is low, you have a bit more leeway if your HVAC is less than perfect. And I also learned I would not want to live in Florida.

Good information and advice.
I am in process of having the HVAC replaced in my home. This book provided information that helped me evaluate HVAC contractors and their proposals. Reading the book definitely increased my confidence.

A man with anger issues
Chapter 2 was inappropriate for this book. It should have been about your knowledge and experience in the field, not your family issues.

Take Knowlege turn it to wisdom and apply!!
This book is a great read! I couldn't put it down. It truly is a no-nonsense way to look at what questions we should be asking. As homeowner's many times we rely on the professionals to steer us in the right direction. Many times we don't know the right questions to ask and therefore we are not armed with the right knowledge to make sure we get the best for our homes. In this case, a specific design on the HVAC System in our homes. Every home is different. This book has armed me with some great questions to make sure I ask them to my HVAC company. I have worked in the HVAC Industry for over 10 years. 10 of those years as an office manager and 1.5 years on the design side. Please heed Tom's advice in this book. Its time we arm ourselves and educate ourselves to not accept the old adages of the a/c world. Times are changing and its time we recognize that. This book also shows off Tom's personality with a backstory and experience in his field. This book helps to fill in the knowledge gaps we may have as homeowners while putting a fun twist on learning with great analogy's easy to understand.

Decent
I am currently going through a HVAC/R program and working on becoming a licensed technician. I purchased this book in the hopes it would have some decent info, even though anecdotal, about HVAC and some quick tips on various things. Overall it's decent, nothing spectacular, it's not a very long book but it does have a few very basic tips for the non-technician. Anyone with an average background in HVAC or does it for a career will probably not find this book informative, it's basically for the average DIY homeowner that wants a little background info in residential HVAC.
