Pixiss Artist 10" Proportional Divider - Drawing Tool for Artists - Gray Scale Value Finder, Color Wheel and Artists View Catcher Finder - Drawing Supplies & Drafting Tools

The view finder was a bit smaller than I had hoped for; however, it wasn't the main reason for this purchase. I purchased this mainly for the gray scale/value finder and proportional divider. The gray scale/value finder is easy to use. It's made of plastic so should last for quite awhile. The proportional divider works perfectly. I used it to transfer a photo of a mountain range to a canvas and loved my results. There is also a handy color wheel included. I found this to be well worth the money. There were no directions included with how to use the proportional divider so if you've never used one, you'll want to jump on YouTube and watch any of the videos on using proportional dividers.

These are great tools! I bought this for the proportional divider to use in making measurements while drawing. The three cards included are terrific as well. The gray scale, viewfinder and color wheel card are laminated and compact, very useful. The proportional divider seems a bit delicate, I wish it was sturdier, but so far so good, and it’s a great tool.

This is almost perfect. The combination of these items is fantastic and the design of the value checker is (dare one say) spot on. The proportional divider is accurate and easy to use. BUT, my enthusiasm for the divider is diminished by its weak construction: it is feels distractedly flimsy and insubstantial in the hand. Were it a shade better built the divider would be a joy to use, as it is I will continue to look for one with body. That said, it works and if nice tools are not your thing you may be completely satisfied with the kit.

For $15 for the four items I guess you can't expect much. The dividers are flimsy as other reviewers have said. The locking slider is hard to use, and doesn't actually lock just makes the pivot point a little stiffer. It's easy to lose a measurement when moving them around. The plastic cards for view finder color wheel, and grey scale are nice and thick, looks like they'd last a while. However, the plastic for the grey scale is highly reflective and not entirely transparent making it hard to get a read on something when looking through it. The color wheel doesn't have a lot of info on it, a rotating color wheel with multiple layers is more useful. The view finder is ok I guess, but again highly reflective so not great to look through, needs a matte coating or something.

The items in this little kit are great! Being a retired machine mechanic, I know that new tools take a bit of learning to get used to. These items hit the nail on the head, when it comes to filling a need of beginning artist. The dividers are plastic, so they should be handled carefully; the other items (color wheel, gray scale finder, and artists window), are plastic cards, and should last a long time. The proportional dividers, from what I've heard, are a temporary tool, so you can get used to judging sizes and proportions by sight. Looking forward to working with these items, so I can learn to draw what I see.

First of all, I can't believe I've been an artist my whole life and never owned any of these four items. Color and shade have always come very natural to me and I've never had to second guess that, BUT, I can see where the two items (color wheel and shade finder) will add more precision to my work. The viewfinder was completely new to me as was the proportional divider, BUT I had seen a YouTube video of an artist using them and I thought I might as well try them out and play with them a little. Always looking to learn something new. The items are all well made, I just wish that the proportional divider had some sort of instructions with it, at least I wish it had the holes marked in number increments so I knew by how much of a per cent what I was reducing or enlarging (boy, that whole sentence was pretty convoluted, but I can't think of a better way to say it, good luck translating). I gave the products a 4 star rating simply because there were absolutely no instructions at all for any of the items. I guess they assume that if your are an artist you either know this already or are smart enough to figure it out. Back to YouTube I guess. I would not discourage you from buying this set at all, just be sure you know how to use it all or have the capability to look them up on said video app.
