a helpful idea
Jan24: PROS a quality product with lots of the "good stuff" with generous sunflower seeds and soft, easy to chew raisins. Just the right amount of salt and LOW sugar which is SOOO much healthier, thank you! CONS I couldn't detect any walnuts within as suggested on the label The overall flavor is a bit bland but definitely quality ingredient choices making this purchase more than worthwhile. Here's a couple ideas to jazz it up a little: sprinkle powdered cinnamon...and/or the modern Europeans way: toast the cereal in the PREHEATED oven (425 degrees) spreading evenly over a large cookie sheet 5 minutes at first then stir and bake 3 or 4 minutes (to toast the grains on the bottom too). Watch brownness and smoke coming off which means your cookie sheet is too close to the oven element. Convection oven (air-circulating) works best. Toasting really brings out the flavor and adds crunch! (Bob's Red Mill please note)

Healthy Natural Cereal
I hadn't tried any of Bob's items, but didn't hesitate much after I saw the rave reviews on this product. I read the ingredients, and they are all grains, nuts, and fruit- no sugar or anything else for that matter. I ordered 4-40 oz. packs, which equals 10lbs, if I am adding correctly. If you have Prime, it comes to roughly $2.90 cents per lb... Pretty good deal. The UPS man was laughing because the box is "all there" and "definatley not a bill". My brother (the workout man), was hesitent when he looked at the packages. He said "where are the clusters!?" I told him to "hold his durn horses, and just get the yogurt and grapes, and We'll try this on for size first." The Taste - very grainy, and nutty. Semi crunchy, with good seeds and nuts, which are sliced almonds and walnuts. Slightly sweet flavor is also nice with the dates and raisins. *this is not a sugary treat, but rather power packed crunchy grain mc delicious pow" Very Good with Greek yogurt, or milk. We already are almost done with the first bag, I'm a fan. Also, the cocker spaniel really likes this stuff. -"Be grateful, be kind, be happy"-

This is wonderful to add in any recipe that calls for oatmeal
This is wonderful to add in any recipe that calls for oatmeal. All the breads and cookies I have baked with the Red Mill Muesli turns out moist and has a wonderful taste! I love the texture of this oat combination. It is very high quality and am anxious to soak the muesli with milk overnight for a delicious breakfast in the morning. I have read several recipes that are submitted with using the Red Mill Muesli and tried the Choc Chip Muesli cookies which turned out wonderful! Not chewy but somewhat cakey and definitely not dry. I tend to substitute sugars for coconut sugar and the butter for 1/2 applesauce to reduce calories and still turned out great. Even my very picky 7 year old and almost 2 year old have enjoyed the banana bread, pumpkin bread and cookies so far. :) So happy purchased this product and definitely will again. Check out this recipe for Pumpkin Oat Bread...use muesli instead. Makes 2 loaves 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour 3/4 cup quick oats or 3/4 cup old fashioned oats...use Red Mill Muesli 2 teaspoons baking soda 1 1/2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice (I usually use more) 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 3 eggs 1 (15 ounce) can solid pack pumpkin 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar 1 cup milk 1/2 cup vegetable oil 1 cup chopped walnuts or 1 cup pecans...did not incorporate since many seeds and nuts in muesli already...just added bit more muesli. Directions: 1Combine flour, oats, baking soda, pumpkin pie spice, baking powder and salt in large bowl. 2Beat eggs, pumpkin, sugars, milk, and oil in large mixer bowl on medium speed until combined. 3Beat flour mixture into pumpkin mixture on low speed just until blended; stir in nuts. 4Spoon into 2 greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pans. 5Bake in preheated 350F oven for 65 to 70 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. 6Cool in pans for 10 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely. 7NOTE: For mini loaves, prepare as directed and pour batter into 6 greased 5 5/8 x 3 1/4 mini loaf pans. 8Bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.

Review from a serious runner
This is a fantastic product. I have completely given up other artificially sweetened garbage that passes for cereal found on store shelves. I am serious runner training for a half marathon (40 miles a week) and Bob's Muesli has been really helpful to keep up my energy levels during the long 15mi runs. For a runner, slow release, complex carbohydrates are more important than simple sugars that get used up very quickly. I have just ordered my second 4 x 40 oz box in less than a month. Everybody has their own concoction, but my preferred way is to chop up a banana, a bit of honey, some baker's dark chocolate (no sugar), a couple of strawberries or blue berries, top it off with milk and about 2 tablespoons or more of yoghurt. This is my post run meal. Pre-run, I prefer to add hot milk with just the Muesli for a quick snack. If I eat something else for breakfast, then I carry this mix for lunch. By the time lunch rolls around, the Muesli softens nicely. It is not a soggy mess, but is just soft enough to go down smoothly. Experiment with soaking it for longer periods to suite your taste. Not too long ago, I was diagnosed with extremely low blood sugar and used to wake up light headed (I am NOT a diabetic). Eating Muesli for dinner has really brought this under control. Now, most of my runs are in the morning. Of course, I am not for one second suggesting that this is a miracle drug, but my point is to emphasize the benefits of slow-release carbohydrates. I love the mix of nuts, almonds, raisins and dates that come mixed with the Muesli. Some people have complained about it sitting heavy in your stomach, which is true to some extent, but after a week of regular consumption, this feeling completely disappeared for me. Compared to Adli's Musli (if they ever have them in stock), this is a much better deal and has more good stuff in it! Overall, let me just say that I am not going to be buying anything else for a long time. Fantastic product that deserves 5 stars.

Muesli doesn't get any better than this.
For once in my life I am addicted to something that is GOOD for me! My day doesn't go well if I haven't had a bowl. In a previous life I was married to a brit who brought back a muesli recipe and habit from living in Germany. She in turn imported the stuff to central Texas and introduced me to it. It was not love at first bite. This stuff is somewhat of an acquired taste. Back then making the muesli involved planning and long (75+ miles) trips to the nearest organic whole foods store before the ingredients could be assembled. Then, after a muelsi hiatus of around 12 years and trying the few commercial products I would find and be disappointed with them all, one day I stumbled on the listing in Amazon for the Bob's Red Mill product. Not expecting too much more than another commercial muesli wanna-be, I ordered a package. Eureka! This is the real deal muesli, folks! It doesn't get any more wholesome than this. How addicted am I? It's a 2 pack a month habit now (2 of us). I've got this as a scheduled delivery every two months, has been for about 2 years now. I eat it mostly cold with milk, soaking for between 0 to 30 minutes. Note that different soak times give different textures. Dried or fresh fruit garnishes a bowl beautifully. I add no sugar to the cold cereal. And pat myself on the back for being so wholesome. On the other hand, every now and then I'll do a cooked batch. The difference between the two is as different as jerky from steak. Totally different flavor and I find the hot version is begging to be gussied up with dried fruit (cooked in with the cereal), a healthy(!) dollop of butter and brown sugar, even just a wee pinch of salt, and just a little milk to cool and thin the porridge. What a treat!! I love this stuff. I don't find that I get tired of the taste, or find it too bland like other reviewers have commented. My body loves this stuff - two or three days without a bowl and I start noticing the changes. With all the products out there today for colon cleansing agents and such all I can say is, as long as I have my muesli, I'm good to go. :-) I suspect there are others out there besides me who are habituated to this muesli.

Good Stuff.
What a wonderful variety of nuts, grains and fruits. I thought the price might be high as I am on a very tight budget, but if I follow the serving recommendations the product represents an affordable, nutritious breakfast or snack food that I can have every day. It is so very good when left to soak in yoghurt. Helps alot with the blood sugar tilt- a- whirl. Per others recommendations, I have put the surplus in the freezer, and keep the open bag in the fridge. Thank you for your reviews which really helped me to make the decision to buy this product, not available where I live. 3/16/13 Feeling a little peckish I doubled my am portion. Three hours later, and with company in my car, a wee little puff of gas escaped. Nothing to worry about.....HA! It was a BARN BURNER! 34 degrees, 60 mph and it still clung. Happened again in Walmart while getting milk. One could probably clear a long checkout line like that. Think I'll stick with the regular serving size! This stuff is so yummy, with no more 10am hypoglycemic episodes.

A good, but not a great muesli
For those used to great European mueslis, this product may be a mild disappointment. It has relatively high content of nuts, seeds and fruits (although can't name a percentage), which is good for flavor. It could hold its own in Europe and stay on the market in the middle of the pack, but it doesn't set itself apart. One thing that was a little disturbing esthetically was that the grain flakes (on the oats, I believe, in particular) are marked with crinkly crease lines that made it perfectly clear they had been through some serious industrial machinery, like a stamp of some kind to flatten them out. Maybe this is standard muesli production procedure worldwide, but I've eaten a lot of mueslis and haven't run across such a blatant industrial fingerprint before. It was kind of unsettling and takes away from the illusion that you're eating an "all-natural" product. But again, this is only esthetic. If you don't look at your muesli, you won't notice it. If you've had one of the truly great mueslis, like those made by Dorset Cereals of the UK, or even very strong second-tier mueslis by companies like Alnatura of Germany, this muesli will seem run-of-the-mill by comparison. I haven't had a better muesli in the US yet, however. I'm still looking. Until then, Bob's Red Mill is perfectly OK and gets the job done. At the Amazon price of under $28 (March 2009), this is a pretty good bargain too. So that should also count for something. Recommended.

Healthy as well as tasty
I wanted to try a muesli cereal for breakfast and to replace some of my usual snacks. Our supermarket sells a couple of boxed mueslis, but they have added sugar (in one of them, it was the second listed ingredient). Bob's Red Mill muesli has no added sugar, and the amount of raisins and dates is fairly small, which I like, since dried fruits have a lot of sugar in them. I don't like hot cereal, so I have the muesli with cold milk. The package recommends letting it soak for 5-10 minutes or even overnight. You can skip the soaking, but the cereal is very chewy if you don't soak it for a few minutes. I love the taste of the muesli. The mixture of whole grains with dried fruits and nuts makes a delicious tasting cereal. Most of the cereals sold in the supermarket are not very healthy since they have so much added sugar, but this muesli is actually pretty healthy with a lot of fiber, no added sugar, no sodium, and a lot of complex carbohydrates. Note: you can also buy this in an 18-ounce bag, but the 40-ounce bags are a much better buy.
