Keineg's vast voice makes new songs sound familiar and old ones (a cover of Big Star's Thirteen) feel new, unexpected. It's both expansive and personal, a big record recorded in small spaces. It's also elegantly eccentric, fearless and funny.

"a miracle that's what you are..."
over the years some voices fade and others shine in perfect musical memory. I first heard Katell at the old Sin e on St. Marks Place. late summer of '93. in that tiny place, the smell of coffee and a sweat beaded Rolling Rock and this lovely shy woman with a lilting voice shaded with touches of Brittany, Dublin and Wales. The voice of an angel soaring out over our upturned faces and floating into the east village night. pure magic. the years have come and gone and the voice and songs are still with us. too long between visits but here now again like long lost friends. thank a loving god.

Not as good as her 1st 2 cds.
It's very meloncholy, & almost dirge-like. It's missing the quirky up-tempo stuff that I love of her music. & with a title like "At the mermaid parade" you'd think it would be very fun & quirky

This one is a Real Mermaid.
Katell Keineg is one of those rare recording artists that hit the jackpot on the holy trinity of being a poet, an artist, and a musical force in equal measures... and the payoff for the joy of being such an oddity -having all the weapons at her disposal to be a culture shaper- is that the mass audience usually doesn't catch on. But like all gems you find down special corridors, off the beaten path in a hushed room, the charm is only increased by being 'in the know' on a best kept secret. You might call it the secret language of hidden treasures.'At the Mermaid Parade' is one of her best offerings yet; the most intimate since the glorious debut 'O Seasons O Castle', as well as the most likely since to demand severely high rotation repeated play, with its accessibility, warmth, humor, and depth drawing you back, like diving into the sea to hear a mermaid's magic parade of songs and tales. One of the special pluses in this new collection of songs is that we rarely get the treat of hearing Katell's voice against the backdrop of piano, and it works with startling effect in both the title track (one of her finest ever recordings) and 'Old Friend' presumedly about her pal from the days when they were both signed to major label deals at Sine Cafe in NYC, the late Jeff Buckley. Her quiet treatment on Big Star's 'Thirteen' is breathtakingly poignant, tender & timelessly innocent. Then there's 'St Martin', 'The Arsehole Song', 'Olden Days', 'World of Sex', 'Dig a Pit' ...all so different in mood & topic & approach to both songwriting craft & production, but still blending together perfectly, the way any classic album spins a unity through its variations.'Mermaid' is, across the boards, a big winner for Katell Keineg and all those lucky folks who know to listen to her.

A beautiful album of power, simplicity and depth. Wonderful voice. This sounds strangely like Dido in places but the songwriting is so much better.
