Q: Its compatible with sophos XG Home firewall?

It should work with Sophos, since this is basically just a small computer with two network ports. I bought one of these and put 4GB RAM and a 60GB SSD in it. I tried to use it as a basic router with pfSense on it, and the performance was awful. I had to remove it and put my Edgerouter ERX back in place. I don't know if the performance problem was with pfSense, or with the network ports. Installing the RAM and SSD was easy. I tried to load pfSense from a DVD, but it would never complete booting. I setup a USB stick to boot and load pfSense, and it was quick and easy. Performance of the computer itself seems good, but network performance with pfSense was awful.

These devices have the Intel i211-AT PHY. Further information about the platform, including a datasheet, can be found on the protectli website

Q: Is there room for a standard length pci-e ( usb ) expansion card inside? interested in adding a sierra wireless mc7455 (or similar) LTE module.

No, there is not room for expansion cards. There is only room for the RAM module, the mSata SSD, and the mini wi-fi card option that they sell.
