Works great, comes with bearing and both large and small tubes
There is a retaining clip that holds the large diameter cylinder on to the small diameter cylinder (just pop it off and slide it out if you need the small silver unit only). The unit also came with a new bearing (it's hidden inside the large diameter cylinder) where it should be if that's used as the bottom. The tube is also nicely greased up (this could trap a washer, so look for that if you don't have one on the bottom after it's removal), so if you are using the large diameter it should be smooth turning. It's working great on my chair and was installed in about 5 minutes (after the 30+ minutes it took to get the old cylinder out).

This one item saved me from buying a whole new ...
This one item saved me from buying a whole new office chair after the hydraulics on my 20 year old chair failed. The item fit PERFECTLY and the replacement was actually much easier than all the YouTube videos showed. Maybe I got lucky, but I had the old hydraulic tube off and this new one back on the chair in 15 minutes.

Desk chair working like new again...
Sitting on the chair for which the gas shock was replaced. The new one is working well. It uses the same pull mechanism as before. The big challenge in replacing the old gas shock is wrenching it out of the chair. It's not soldered or anything - just friction. I had to ask a friend to take to his workshop where he used a large wrench to twist it out. However, after the old one is out it's easy to insert the new one. You just sit on the chair and it seats itself.

Did not work with my chair
I had an old chair and the part just did not fit. By the time I got through, I don’t think I could have sent the part back. If it would have fit, installation would have been fairly easy.

Super fast shipping
I have a higher-end chair that I scored at a liquidation store. Unfortunately, while the leather seat is quite nice, the tilt mechanism (and subsequently the gas cylinder) broke after about 18 months. Not being a chair mechanic, I was perplexed when I tried to take my chair apart and the cylinder was much skinnier than most of the replacement cylinders I was seeing - most of which had the big black case/column you find in big box office store chairs. I found this cylinder but was worried it wouldn't fit or work, despite the image that showed both a cylinder with and without the case/column.It arrived with the case on, but no explanation of how to remove it. When I received the new cylinder, I thought perhaps there was still a part of my chair's base that needed to be removed, even though I thought it was part of the base. So then I lubed it up with a ton of WD40, stuck a screwdriver through the bottom, and tried to hammer it out the top. But it was not budging, which brought me back to thinking maybe it wasn't supposed to be removed, and maybe there was a way of having that skinnier cylinder from your advertisement after all.to use the cylinder with the column, after all.I finally found the reference to the video in the comments and questions to find out how to remove the column from the cylinder (ICYMI - go onto YouTube and search for "Removing the Bottom Bearing Clip from Your Office Chair Shock").Once I saw that removing the column was as simple as just moving a clip from the bottom and sliding the cylinder out, I had my chair fixed in just a couple minutes.I traded a couple emails with the seller, and ended up tweaking their image to the one attached to this review so hopefully others who run into this problem won't bang the heck out of their chair like I did! :)

worked great
at first we thought cylinder was too large but figured out how to take it apart and just use the inside part. Our old, but expensive leather desk chair works perfectly now.

Office chair
The one in my high end designer office chair broke after 20 years. Replaced it with this one and all is working well again. Changing the cylinders is not easy and might require some force to remove the old one. Installing the new part is easier. There are various YouTube videos explaining the process.
