A Masterpiece
53 years since the Beatles revolutionised pop/rock music with the release of this iconic album. I must be honest and admit I've never been a great fan of the Beatles or their solo work. I can appreciate the massive cultural impact they made and their contribution to the evolution of popular music is without question. I was 6 when the album was first released and in my teen years the Beatles were regarded as being a bit "naff". I had never taken time to sit down and carefully listed to Sgt Pepper- mostly put off by all the "hype" around it- after all it could NEVER be that good, could it? How wrong was I. This is an amazing piece of art. I can appreciate how mind blowing it must've been to hear this for the 1st time in 1967. The entire concept from the intriguing album cover, the lyrics published on the sleeve and of course the music and "nonsense" lyrics, strange instruments and effects. Imagining my granddad a man born in 1904 listening to this! The 50th Anniversary release with the Giles Martin stereo mix on a top end Hi Fi system is a total orgasm for the ears. At times it almost verges on those old Phase 4 Stereo demonstration records produced during the 60s with their phasing and stereo effects and tricks. This is properly considered an iconic album and certainly contender for the greatest album of all time- that of course is subjective and Miles Davis fans would certainly object. A true masterpiece and a milestone in popular culture.

what can I say? Wow! Wow! and Wow!
Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (50th Anniversary 1 cd edition)When I first bought this album in the summer of 1983, I fell in love with it after a couple of plays on my record player. It had so much vibrancy, life, colour and expression. It transported me to a time that was full of hope and love, even though I was way to young to remember it for myself. The lp was from the original stereo mix.Moving on to 1987 when I bought the first cd version of the album (This was released on the album’s 20th Anniversary) This was mastered from the same stereo mix as my vinyl lp, however, though it revealed more treble detail, in comparison it sounded thin and lifeless. It was huge disappointment as compact discs were marketed as an audiophile medium at the time. It kind of put me off from playing the album for many years.Fast forward to September 2009, when they remastered the entire Beatles studio album back catalogue. I bought the Sgt Peppers remastered cd in the hope that it would sound better than the 1987 master. Yes it had more body and warmth than the original cd, but it still lacked the sonic eloquence and expression of my vinyl lp. It was the same stereo mix again. Now It’s May 2017 and I have just listened to the 50th Anniversary stereo remix of Sgt Peppers on cd. I was worried that I would be disappointed. But what can I say? Wow! Wow! and Wow! It sounds absolutely amazing. It has all the sonic eloquence and expression of my original lp and so much more - detail, space, depth, exuberance and life. I have fallen in love with this album and, been transported back to 1967 all over again. Thank you Giles Martin! If you have wondered why this is rated as one of the best albums of all time. Here is why. Buy this version and you will not be disappointed.

Distant, happy memories return.
Bought after watching about same on tv recently although, I do have the vinyl, but nothing to play it on. In 1973 I had an 8 track in the car and SPLHCBwas one of only 4 tapes I had and, was played a lot. I found out after a while that my girl friend at the time (who is still my wife)hated it due to the fact that her brother played it constantly whilst he was in the loft with his train set.Although I was never really a big Beatles fan (I was more The Move and, obviously later the fantastic ELO) not she loves you and all that stuff anyway, I enjoyed listening to it again (in private may I add) after some years.

The Beatles Drum'n'Bass Album
No need for comment on the quality of the music on here. It's the remix. There's now a slammin bass and a seriously jacked up drum sound too. I compared this remix back to back with my 80s CD. The new one is twice or three times as loud but there is no audible distortion that I can hear and that is truly a miracle. None of the detail from the original has been lost either. Good man Giles. So what we have here is an absolute belter of an album that now sounds absolutely superb. Turn it down from your usual 11 to about 4 or 5 and enjoy.

When I first played this new mix, I wasn't particularly blown away by it either & my hi-fi set-up's pretty good. I grew-up with the original stereo version & played it TO DEATH when I was younger, but it's a long time since I had it on 'heavy rotation'. It's just embedded in my brain as: "Yes- that's Sgt Pepper". BUT: after a few more listens (especially through headphones), I think what's been achieved is something pretty darn spectacular. I can't even remember the last time I played the original stereo mix through headphones, but I did just that last night & it's pretty much night & day IMO. The original is just (being kind) 'of it's time', being not so kind- primitive/crude. Sometimes you can forget just how much recording technology has advanced over the years. I respect the fact that some people don't want any 'tinkering' done to such a precious catalogue (in-fact, MY Jaw hit the floor when I first read about the 'Love' project for example), but this isn't a case of re-writing history, or colourising old black & white film. This release is just something else all together- it's like having 50 years worth of cotton-wool taken out of your ears! (well- in my case anyway :-))

This is by far the best version of this Beatles' hit classic
The sound quality has been digitally enhanced and the new remix brings out a much richer, bigger sound with unbelievable clarity of the voices and instruments. I already had two previous versions of Sgt Pepper in my music library but this 50th Anniversary Edition was worth every penny! With headphones on, it's like being right there in the studio with The Beatles.
