Total Peace of Mind – The Best Safety Investment for Multi-Dog Homes!
If you worry about your dog getting their collar caught on a fence, crate, or even another dog’s jaw during play, you need this collar. I bought the PetSafe KeepSafe specifically for the breakaway feature, and it has already proven its worth. What Makes It Great: The Breakaway Buckle: The patented safety buckle is genius. It’s designed to release if the collar gets snagged, preventing strangulation accidents. It gives me so much peace of mind leaving my dogs together or in the yard. Leash Compatible: A lot of people worry that a breakaway collar means you can’t use a leash. This design solves that—you just clip your leash through both metal D-rings, which overrides the breakaway feature for secure walks. Build Quality: It feels very high-quality and "long-lasting" as advertised. The nylon is thick and durable, and the hardware doesn't feel cheap or flimsy. Adjustable Fit: It was easy to get a perfect, snug fit. It stays at the size you set it to without sliding loose over time. Pro-Tip: Make sure you show anyone else who walks your dog (like a pet sitter or vet) how the double D-rings work so they don't accidentally let the collar "break away" while out on a stroll! Final Thoughts: Every dog owner should have one of these. It’s a simple, durable collar that literally saves lives. Highly recommended!

Strong, Safe, and Absolutely Worth It!
We absolutely love the PetSafe KeepSafe Break-Away Collar and have bought it for two of our dogs. The quality is excellent—so much so that when the collar does break away (which is the whole point), I sometimes have a hard time clicking it back together because the plastic latch is so strong and durable. That gives me a lot of peace of mind, knowing it won’t come undone unless it needs to. There’s no reflectiveness on the collar, which isn’t an issue for us, but something to note if you’re looking for nighttime visibility. As far as value for money, this collar is 100% worth it for the safety it provides. We’ve purchased the red and blue colors for our first two dogs and recently added a third. Since she’s a girl, I’ve been holding out for the purple color—but it’s been out of stock for what feels like forever! I really hope PetSafe brings it back, because we would buy it instantly. For sizing, we used a piece of yarn around each dog’s neck, cut it to size, then measured the yarn with a tape measure to find the best fit. The collars are true to size, and as long as you measure correctly, you’ll get a perfect fit. If you’re looking for a high-quality safety collar that does exactly what it promises, this is the one. We won’t use anything else.

Keep your beloved dogs safe by using a breakaway collar!
I didn’t know that a breakaway collar was a thing until after our Golden Retriever almost choked the life out of out Dalmatian. Our 80 pound Golden Retriever bit the collar of our 70 pound Dalmatian and flipped over to his back during a dog wrestling match in our family room while my daughter and I were watching tv. The collar was tight around the Dalmatian’s neck and the Golden’s lower jaw. They were wearing thick leather collars with a traditional metal buckle because collars with plastic clips would fall off during their play sessions and I didn’t want to lose their tags. It was one of the most traumatic experiences of our lives. Once we figured out what was happening we tried desperately to release them and it got to the point that I truly thought the Dalmatian was going to die while we struggled to release 150 pounds of terrified dogs. The collar was so tight that I couldn’t get anything between it and his skin to cut it lose. I ran and got a huge serrated knife from the kitchen, looked at my daughter and told her all I knew to do was to cut the leather with the knife and that it was going to cut him and she screamed “do it” and just as I started sawing the leather the Golden Retriever calmed down just enough that as I sawed the collar it had released from being dug into his skin. We went without collars for a couple of weeks but with 4 dogs and rainy weather I really needed a way to manage letting them outside to potty one at a time, otherwise they will find mud to play in. All 4 wear this collar now. It snaps apart with a fair amount of pressure but can be used with a leash by hooking it into the 2 metal ring on both sides of the quick release. I ordered red but received raspberry which is pretty, but not so much on the male Dalmatian :)

A good collar, but keep the limitations in mind
I bought this collar after a neighbor tragically lost a dog to strangulation. Their two dogs were playing together, and one's tooth got caught in the other's collar. The collar twisted while the dogs struggled, and by the time the owner got them apart (big dogs, small person), the one dog had stopped breathing, and she could not resuscitate it. This is apparently a fairly common occurrence, but until this happened I had not heard of it. So, after a great deal of research and discussion, there appear to be three common approaches to preventing this kind of tragedy, but each has its obvious limitations. The first is to remove the dogs' collars whenever they're indoors or unattended. This eliminates the risk completely, but means that your dog isn't wearing tags, and can't be easily restrained by grabbing a collar. The second approach, which I'd say is probably the least you'd want to do, is to get a quick-release collar. In the instance I described with my neighbor, it took her minutes to remove the collar because it was cinched tightly--too tight for her to get the slack she needed to release the collar. She ultimately had to cut it off. The problem with this approach is that strangulation can still occur if you're not watching when it happens. The third approach is the breakaway collar. When pulled tight enough, this collar will come apart at the link point, preventing strangulation. The benefits are obvious, as is the drawback: You can't use the collar to restrain the dog, since the link will release and you'll be left with the collar in your hand. The Petsafe KeepSafe collar is actually a hybrid of solutions 2-3, in that it is both a quick-release collar and a breakaway. Additionally, it includes two metal leash rings--one on each side of the break-away link--so you can use this for walking your dog on a leash without the collar breaking away when the dog pulls. Our dogs are also microchipped. We figure this solution is the best combination of safety and security for us. If the dogs were to ever be loose and someone grabbed the collar, at least they'd end up with the collar, tags, and our phone number in their hand.

Nibbler's Lifesaver Collar
A Tail-Wagging Triumph Hi there, I'm Nibbler, and I've got a story to share about my new favorite accessory: the PetSafe KeepSafe Break-Away Collar. Let me tell you, this collar is more than just a fashion statement – it's a lifesaver, literally! It all started one day when my pup brother, Bender, and I were playing around like we always do. Suddenly, disaster struck – Bender's tooth got stuck in my old collar, and we couldn't get loose. We were both scared and confused. Despite some serious work from our mom to free Bender's tooth from the collar, it wouldn't budge! Then mom tried to take my collar off but with Bender going crazy trying to free his tooth, it was really hard but mom was finally successful. It was a scary experience that left all of us shaken. After that terrifying incident, our mom decided that safety was the top priority. That's when she found the PetSafe KeepSafe Break-Away Collar, and let me tell you, it's been a game-changer ever since. The best thing about this collar is its break-away design. If Bender or I ever find ourselves in a sticky situation again, the collar releases with a gentle tug, ensuring that we can escape safely without any harm. It's like having a guardian angel watching over us wherever we go, giving our mom peace of mind and allowing us to play and explore without any worries. Not only is this collar incredibly safe, but it's also super comfortable to wear. The soft material feels gentle against my fur, and the adjustable fit ensures that it's just the right size for both Bender and me. Plus, the bright colors make us stand out in a crowd, so we always look stylish and ready for adventure. But perhaps the best part of all is the love and care that went into choosing this collar for us. Our mom wants nothing but the best for us, and seeing her take proactive steps to keep us safe fills my doggy heart with joy. In conclusion, the PetSafe KeepSafe Break-Away Collar is more than just a collar – it's a symbol of love, safety, and the unbreakable bond between humans and their furry friends. Thank you, PetSafe, for creating a product that gives us dogs the freedom to play and explore while keeping us safe from harm. Woof woof for safety!

Sturdy with a True Breakaway
The Large fits my 85 lb golden really well. It’s versatile with a wide adjustment range. The quality feels solid and stays put during normal activity, while still releasing as designed with enough pressure, giving me peace of mind for everyday use. Wish this came in more colors!

Potentially live-saving collar for dogs playing together or unsupervised
This is the only dog breakaway collar out there as far as I can tell, even though breakaway is the standard for cats, for good reason. I've used it and it works well. Doesn't pop open too easily, takes a firm pull. Soft nylon is durable and comfortable for the dog. When dogs play together they often mouth on each other's necks. Back in my dog daycare employee days I saw multiple instances of mouths getting stuck in collars and it is a very alarming and dangerous emergency as the dogs panic as one strangles and the other's mouth gets injured and it can be very difficult to get the now-extremely-tight, tangled collar off a panicked moving target of two lurching dogs who may bite out of fear, even if you keep medical safety-tipped scissors on hand to cut collars off. And if you leave your dog(s) alone, you won't be there to save them if they get tangled/caught on something or each other. I also saw an impalement injury from a dog's collar getting caught on a metal wire dog crate and the dog yanking so hard the crate broke apart and a thin metal bar punctured the dog's body. I've also heard of strangulation deaths of crated dogs getting their collars caught. (If you don't use a breakaway collar, please remove your dog's collar when crated!) I've read repeatedly that Robin Bennett and The Dog Gurus, dog daycare experts, strongly recommend that off-leash playgroups either have the dogs wear no collar or break-away collars. The collar can be used with a leash if you hook the leash to BOTH loops, so if it opens, it won't open very far. But I walk dogs on front-clip harnesses to protect their airway and to reduce pulling. My use of a collar is to have ID/Rabies/License & nighttime light-up tags on the dog and to have a way to grab the dog if needed. I also keep a slip-lead handy in case I need to grab a dog in my care, since if the dog resists moving in the direction I'm guiding it, the breakaway collar may come off. I do worry a bit that if a dog in my care were to escape and be found by a neighbor they won't realize the collar will come off if they try to use it to gain control of the dog. So I had tags engraved that say "Breakaway Collar DON'T PULL! Use BOTH loops" on one side and say "REWARD!" with our mobile numbers on the other side. But I take a lot of steps to keep escapes risks low. And I figure if the collar comes off there's still their microchip, emailing the neighborhood on Nextdoor, flyering, etc. I board dogs in my home and feel it would be irresponsible to risk injuries/death that I've been educated about over and over. So I've moved on from the really cute printed fashion collars to the solid colored ones that will keep the dogs safe.

Put it to the test day 1! It works!
We have two Golden Retreiver's who love to play. They are brothers and are nine months old. We had traditional collars on them and had to remove them due to the choking hazard during play time. I walked outside one morning to bring them back inside from playing in the fenced yard. They were both looking at me and not moving. I knew they wanted to come but something was keeping them from moving. I went out to find one of them had gotten his bottom jaw twisted in the others collar. It was so tight I struggled to get the clasp free. After that we removed their collars. We really hated to not have something on them in the event they escaped from their yard. So I researched and found these break away collars and read all the good reviews and most had similar stories to mine. Well first day we had these on when they came back in from playing only one was wearing their collar. So these WORK! I was so happy to know that we can now safely leave their collars on while they play and are outdoors. Thank you so much Petsafe for making this wonderful product and thank you Amazon for carrying it. I can't imagine the devastation of losing a furry family member in a horrible accident due to a collar. My heart goes out to those who have went thru that loss. So if you are looking for a breakaway collar I recommend this 100% Update February 15, 2019 Still using these collars. Ours boys play hard and for whatever reason one of them really loves to pull at the other ones collar. I don't know what we would do without these. When we take our dogs to the groomers they wash these while our dogs are being groomed and they come out looking brand new. I highly recommend these. Just wanted to follow up after really putting the product to the test!! November 2019 These collars are still in great condition and doing their job!! I can't recommend them enough. It is honestly hard to purchase something nowadays at this price point that lasts as long as they have. This is one of the only products that I can think of that I have purchased from Amazon that I have updated my review more than once. But I want to make sure that I share just how impressed I am with these collars. We don't use them for taking them out on walks as we prefer a harness. That doesn't reflect on the product at all, it is merely a personal choice. I paid for this product, it wasn't free or a promotional item. No one is asking me to write this review. I simply love my dogs like they are my kids and I truly believe that these collars have kept them from seriously hurting each other, or worse, during playtime. If I were able to give them 10 stars I would. April 2024 Update Still using these on our boys and loving them. They don't rough house as much as they used too, but on occasion they do and these still function perfectly.

Efficace

Good quality dog collar that is safe
Very easy to use and definitely works to keep my dog safe. Just ensure when the dog is on the leash that you attach the lead to both loops. The collar fits well and is also very sturdy.

Works Perfectly
Excellent. Works exactly as it should. If you want to use a leash, you hook it around both buckles to prevent it from breaking-away. When the two buckles are not attached, it'll safely break-away as it should.

Macht was es soll
