Well Polished, Highly Detailed, Addictive RAGE.
*** No Spoilers, just game info. PRO's + Highly detailed, grungy, post-apocalyptic world. My favorite! Fast loading, very smooth running, well polished game. The sky is breathtaking! + Control and motion come very natural and easy. Menu's and the option to "defib" yourself back into the game are wonderful. + Characters are friendly & inviting; their mission requests are not tedious like other games. I enjoy finding a new location, with a new group of people to talk with, and a new set of missions to accomplish. Voice acting is wonderful. Might recognize a few actors. + The Enemy AI is very nice. Enemies will hold a wound after being hit or shot, fall down and shoot back, and make inappropriate comments with others about planning your demise. + Open world style, great vehicle choice and driving control, Story and over-all style of the game have a lot of thought put into each detail and aspect of the visual game and game play itself. + Multiplayer buggy racing is a lot of fun. I could spend hours just on that. Co-op multiplayer missions are fun to complete, if you can find someone to stay with you the entire level. + Game Trophies are not annoying or wearisome; they are fun and will most likely be achieved through regular play through of the game. Keep an eye out for the Playing Cards and recipes though. + Wonderful music. Perfect for such an atmospheric game. Mesh very well together. CON's - You need to remember to save. There are no auto-save or checkpoints throughout the level or area you are in. Can get very frustrating when you are really getting into the game and playing for hours, then die and have to play it all over again. Stopping game play to save takes you out of the gaming experience. - There is no split-screen for the full game campaign. There are side story split-screen missions that you can play with a friend or online co-op. I play a lot of games, and I must say that this is one of the rare times where I got hooked almost immediately. I did not want to stop, so I didn't. I was amazed by the high detail level, yet the incredibly smooth control and game play. Usually games with such high detail are sluggish and lethargic (like Dead Island). Rage is one of the clearest, most detailed, and smoothest running games I have ever played. Visually you can see for quite a vast distance full of clarity and high depth. Yes, there is some texture popping from time to time, however this is not distracting from the game play and I rather have some texture loading than sluggish game play. People can compare Rage to many other games, however it reminds me most of Borderlands with a touch of Fallout and a pinch of Mad Max. However Rage has something new to offer. Yes, it is similar to other games, however what game is not? "O, he is holding a rifle, so this game reminds me of Modern Warfare 2". Rage has a style all its own and really pulls off what they were going for. This is a very grungy game, yet it has times of bright sunny skies and colorful scenes. There are fun, albeit frustrating, little mini games throughout the world that you can play to earn cash so you can buy things in one of the shops around the towns. Sort of reminds me of the little mini games in Red Dead Redemption. Each game is a trophy if you beat the last level of that mini game challenge. At the shops you can buy quite a plethora of items. Ammunition for your weapons and vehicle weapons, recipes for building weapons or devices, and a lot more can all be purchased from a shop. You earn money by completing mission, racing, or selling the items you find in your journeys. The Multiplayer is a lot of fun as well. Playing co-op missions have their pros and cons. It is fun to play with another so you can back each other up and revive if necessary. However I have had many times where the other player dropped out or left in the middle of playing which can get very annoying if you are trying to get the multiplayer trophies. It is a shooter game, not a role-playing game. But it has more to offer than just random mind numbing killing like many FPS. It does have a story with missions and characters, a spacious area and cool locations, and solid game play any fan of FPS or RPG should be happy. It is not an adventure game as much as just a shooter. A lot depends on the way you play it. I have spend hours and hours just walking around looking for stuff. But you can also just go to your destination and shoot anything that moves. Rage is a beautiful game graphically. I often find myself walking along and I stop just to look around at the breathtaking sky and the powerful detail in each and every little thing. I still cannot get over how smooth the game runs for how detailed it is. This new id Tech 5 Engine will blow any predeceasing game out of the water and I cannot wait to see what gaming future holds for this powerful engine. Rage has entered in game of the year territory and they have already announced a sequel, maybe a prequel. Any gamer teetering whether to get this or not should not hesitate. It has enough of a variety of game play to please any gamer.

For The Price...
When this game was first released on PS3 and Xbox 360 it got got slightly above average reviews. When it was released on PC it got slammed for a slew of performance issues. I've played about six hours of the PS3 Anarchy Edition, had some fun with the DLC and bonus items, and can honestly say that for under $20 this game is a steal. The Good The FPS combat in this game reminds more of Wolfenstein (2009). You can carry pretty much as many guns as you want, but only have quick access to four of them without going into the status/equip screen. So there is minor strategy element as far as selecting which weapons you want to keep handy. You can also find upgrades and different ammo types. The game looks fantastic with one minor flaw on the PS3 version which I'll get to in a second. Other than the one flaw, the game's aesthetics, design, and level of detail are quite well done. Many reviewers said that the color palette was browned-out or drab. It may not be Las Vegas neon insanity, but it isn't as monochrome as these reviews make it out to be. The driving and car combat are huge in this game and the arcade style physics of the cars along with a nice mix of weapons makes for a wonderful change of pace to just running around everywhere on foot. While there aren't as many upgrades available for the cars as there are for the handheld weapons there's still a good amount of stuff to unlock, races with and without combat to win, and stunt jumps to make to keep a player amused for quite awhile. The Bad (Minor, minor stuff) You have to buy, win, or be given pretty much every weapon in the game. If you run into a room with three enemies blasting at you with assault rifles and take them out, you don't get the guns, maybe just ammo and cash. This sometimes leads to situations where you will be out gunned, not horribly but enough to use up a lot of your bandages. Texture popping is pretty constant throughout the game. It's not bad enough to make whole walls or buildings suddenly pop up in front of you, but many times you will see walls and even your weapons still texturing as you move from area to area or getting in and out of vehicles. Some of the voice acting is a little lackluster but this is a FPS game at its core. Result If this were a brand new, full priced game I might have docked it a star or two. As it is, from the right buyer you can get the Anarchy Edition for less than $20. I haven't tried the co-op or multiplayer yet, but from what I've tried so far, this is a great game. If this has been a game you've kind of been looking at for a while, I say go for it. It's not going to get any cheaper and it's better than a good portion of the newer FPS games that have higher price tags.

Stop Complaining
If you want to know why people don't like the game, and others love it, then scroll to the end of my review and read the truth. Short Review: If you love shooter/action/fps/adventure games, then I suggest you give this game a try. Whether you play games for the story, gameplay, or graphics, you will all be satisfied. Awesome animations incorporated into the action and firefights. Literally, *revolutionary* AI both with enemy tactics and amazing firefight responses. Story is awesome until the end, where the game ends abruptly. It took me about 10 hours to beat the game, and I loved every bit of it. If you don't want to buy, then just rent it and give it a try. This is definitely NOT a game you want to pass up. A few blips in the graphics is not a reason to turn down this game. Long Review: Graphics and Sound: The graphics are phenomenal! Id has new mega-texture technology, which lets their models and textures look amazing. Now if you spin around real fast, the textures take a second to load, but what do you expect from a game that looks this good. Especially in Subway Town, the graphics honestly could not look better, even at the 30 frames per second on the ps3, compared to the xbox and pc's 60 frames. This game is easily one of the most beautiful games I have ever played. The sound and music are pretty standard, nothing special, but how advanced can sound design really get nowadays? Gameplay: Most people shrug the game off as a standard Fps, and they go into the game expecting standard fps action, and getting it. What do you people seriously expect? ALL FPS GAMES ARE THE SAME. But where the real fun comes in is the gameplay tied in with the enemies animations and AI. Id's mastered the weapon design and balances, and a firefight never felt so thoughtful. You shoot an enemy in the shoulder, and the enemy falls to their side but rather than falling straight on their face, they hold out their other arm and push off the ground. Instead of running straight at you like a moron, the enemies make quick ducks and lunges to avoid your bullets. I cannot tell you how many times I was waiting for an enemy to get within perfect range for my shotgun, only to shoot at the perfect moment the guy decides to take a quick duck out of my crosshairs. The mutants make it a habit to jump off walls and run diagonally at you to avoid your bullets, and they absolutely love to jump and flip over every obstacle in between you and them. The Authority also does more than your standard "smart bad guy". I expected them to do the norm, throw grenades at me when I'm behind cover, and hide behind cover themselves. I was surprised when they actually makes tactics together. By far the smartest enemy AI I have ever encountered in a game. If an authority enemy has a shield, his buddies line up behind him in a row behind the shield. If they want to move up on you, they have 3 or 4 guys lay down suppressing fire while the guy with the shotgun comes running up to you. If you are trying to be stealthy, every half minute or so the Authority enemies check in with each other on the radios. If one doesn't reply, they all come rushing to where he was. Honestly, I can't even begin to describe how awesome the firefights are. The enemy AI, coupled with advanced animation mechanics and combat tactics make an honestly unforgettable experience in an action game. The driving parts are a welcome element. They add some nice diversity to the action, and the races are rather entertaining. You only need to complete maybe 5 races throughout the game, none of which are especially difficult. The controls handle well, and results are satisfying. The main driving action comes in the form of driving from point A to point B, and usually encountering some bandits on the way. People mostly attribute this mechanic from Borderlands, but seriously, how else can you travel across a wasteland without running for hours on end? Controls: The controls are a little odd at first, and take some getting use to, but they flow surprisingly well. Selecting weapons and ammo types is as easy as pulling one trigger, but it stops your movement, but not the action. I usually hate the triangle button being the jump button, but I rarely found myself jumping in the first place, so it worked out nicely. Story: The story starts off strong, and ends strong. Its fairly straight forward, and even though its marketed as about 20 hours of gameplay, I got roughly 10 hours playing on normal difficulty. Granted I didn't explore and do side missions much. However, I have one complaint. The story ends immediately out of nowhere. No epic boss fight, no incredible battle, no life-or-death situation. You just kinda do the mission, and then its over. Very disappointing and anti-climactic. The middle part of the game (around the time you start going into the Dead City) is where most of the boss fights happen, and they are enjoyable but not too difficult. Execution: Even though there are several "no-no"'s of triple-A games, the game is still very well done. Some invisible walls are present, but only to help you not fall down endless chasms. They are there to help you, not restrict your movement. Also, the world is exactly open world. Its a story-driven game, just with opportunities to explore and do side missions. Don't go into this game expecting it to be like Fallout. The game is a narrative piece, telling a story, not letting you tell your own story. In conclusion, this game is one of my favorite games to date. I hate the narrow-minded CoD and Halo games, and this game puts id back at the helm of the FPS genre they created. With only several new concepts (concepts that make the gameplay that much better), but every other FPS concept is perfectly executed, balancing, movement, amount of ammo given, the feel of the guns, everything is perfect. A well-polished masterpiece, deserving more than people are crediting it with. I give the game a 5/5. End Review, begin rant here: First things' first, this game is not Fallout OR Borderlands. In fact, this game started development in 2005, with the id Tech 5 engine being finished in 2004 and Borderlands starting production in late 2005/2006. Therefore THIS GAME DID NOY COPY BORDERLANDS, and in fact Gearbox got inspiration for Borderlands FROM Rage. And no, this game doesn't copy Fallout either. Just because the game takes place in a post-apocalyptic world doesn't mean it has to be like fallout to be good. The game is an action game, not an rpg. This game has no dumb giant fire ants, and no stupid radioactive scorpions. Only humans, and mutants (who are only there because of the authority testing on humans, not radiation) Don't worry, thats not a spoiler. People are complaining because the game isn't like Fallout, but I'm glad it isn't like Fallout. Rage has a specific story and specific experience it wants you to have, which is not wondering around in a wasteland aimlessly shooting at everything that moves. This game is unique, and creative, and with its genius incorporation and advancement into the interaction of enemies, I hope other games adopt this idea and it catches on just like the first person perspective has. Now I admit, id shot themselves in the foot when they said this is an rpg, but people are giving this game bad reviews because it isn't an rpg. Really, is that how close-minded we are? People are giving the game bad reviews because IT ISNT an rpg. People should review games based on what they aim for, and how well they reach it. If we rated CoD on how many rig elements it had, then it wouldn't be very good, but its not an rig its an action game, just like Rage. Don't call this game trash because it isn't an RPG like you wanted it to be, grade it on how well of an FPS is.

very polished mad max style shooter
Hi, I was very excited for this game. Then no reviews were out and I was a little hesitant. Then I read that Bethesda is in charge of when the reviews for their games come out and it was beyond the developer id's control and preordered it. These mad max style games are my favorite. I read other reviews that said just another apocolyptic shooter and I think there haven't been that many. I will take a sci fi shooter over a military one any day. I feel those are the ones that seem to be out more. Anyway, before I got my copy I read a negative review in joystiq site and another one from a nobody review site. I read some good ones too. Well I have been playing it about 3 nights with 2 hr sessions each night and so far the game is great. The visuals are the best I have seen so far. I read some reviews that said they look good until you get close. Well to me they look good far and close. The combat is frentic and fun. I havent ever played a shooter this fast pased. The enemies are very smart they go for cover, some rush you, they have patterns that zig and zag when they come at you instead of a straight line, they jump. Great enemy ai. I read some reviews that said the enemy ai was not good. I think it's great. Also runs at 60fps with no slow down! And I got to some great bosses too! Also there are different ammo types and you can find recipes to make ammo and things. Also the sound effects are great as well as the music. The guns have a real weight to them. So far these guns are the most fun to shoot of any shooter I have played so far. The cars. I read some complaints about them being hard to control or not handleing well. The cars are great they handle well, can go blazingly fast, you can shoot miniguns, and it is all very arcadey and easy to control and great fun. Think more open world car controls like mercs2 or saints row 2 than borderlands. Vehicles are much better than borderlands. I also read about the graphics being late to load while you are walking. Kind of like all the images are not loaded as fast as you get to them. I haven't seen any of that. I have to tell you I havent seen one bug in the game yet. This is probably the most polished game I have played right up there with red dead redemption. I also read where people complained about the missions being fetch quests. Well the missions are great. In six hrs I have been to many different locations against many different gangs of enemies. I haven't felt like any of the missions were boring or of little importance. Especially compared to borderlands missions. Also the towns and people you meet are great. Best towns and npc's I have seen. Now I have a theory to why some people do not like this game. It is hard. I die and die a lot. To me it is harder than borderlands which was pretty hard. Anyway, maybe some people just don't like the game. Everybody likes different things, but if this looks good to you at least rent it because it is a great game to me and sometimes I feel when a game is getting a lot of exposure I think there are always people putting it down just to be different. Also nothing bad against borderlands I liked that game a lot too. This game is totally different than that game though. This game is more like a military shooter but with a scifi apocolyptic setting. I say that in part due to the ai style being smarter than the ai in borderlands that was relentless but not very hard to shoot at. Kevin update 10/21 I have about 11hrs in now and am at the last town. I still am enjoying the game. I read where the game kind of losses steam towards the end. So far this is not true. The last few missions I had were very exciting. Also each one took me about 2 hrs to get through. I know this may vary, but I do not save on my own unless I keep getting killed at a certain spot. To clarify the save system. The game autosaves after each mission, but during the mission it will not. But, you can manually save anytime. I read complaints about this. I like it because if you want to be hardcore and try to get through the mission without getting killed you can. If you want to save every step you can and anywhere in between. Also read where you keep going back to old areas. I haven't done any side missions so maybe those ones do, but so far in the story missions I have just visited one area 2x and it had different enemies and I think it looked a little different, if not it was so long since I first visited it did not seem that familiar. I still hold that the shooter aspects are very solid and the npc's you encounter are so cool, and the graphics are the best. Also I can't believe 1 star reviews here. Maybe you cant accept my 5 star review, thats cool it's my opinion. But a 1 star review would be for a broken game. This game has had zero bugs so far and is very polished and solid. Kevin

Old School meets New School
Rage is what a FPS should be. The FPS genre is all about the action and the combat in this game is extremely fun and the graphics are excellent and beautiful. The plot is rather simple and shallow, but that is id Software's trademark and their successful games such as Wolfenstein, Doom, and Quake are classics and didn't have deep storylines either. If deep storylines are you niche, this game may not be to your liking. If you enjoy car combat, guns and gore then pick this game up. I don't think I've had this much fun with a FPS since Return to Castle Wolfenstein came out about 10 years ago, it's that good. Pros: Awesome combat and enemies, car races, Mutant Bash TV, fun mini games, beautiful graphics, fluid gameplay, top notch sound quality Cons: Minor texture pop in issues, not challenging enough. A+ game, recommend this game to anyone that values gameplay over storylines.

Beautiful But Boring Shooter & Arcade Racer that Begs to be an Open World Game...
Let's face the facts. Rage is beautiful. Within moments after installing the ginormous game and finally crawling out into the ever-so bright sunlight the first thing you realize is how beautiful this game is. I'm talking about a graphics that are as good if not better than Killzone 3. It's good looking, really good looking. I should note though that even with the 8gb install, there is a lot, a lot of texture popping and it is rather noticeable. It's doesn't make the game unplayable, but it's there none the less and it's disappointing when you remember that 8gb of your PS3 hard drive is devoted to this game...so why is there so much texture popping so close to me?? **sigh** Oh well. Also, some of the textures when you press your nose to them or even your finger are... pixelated. This game is interesting right off the bat. You find yourself in a world filled with interesting characters. You begin to wander the wasteland (or should I say "wastecanyon") with a pistol and a four wheeler and soon find yourself as in all good sandbox-esq games to be the necessary "errand boy" (which apparently is in short supply in video games). You do things for other friendlies in the game and in return they give you blue prints for new toys you can make on the battlefield or new guns that give you new and improved firepower. The guns are pretty standard fair and straightforward. The thing that adds variety in this game is various amo that you can load into those guns can give you better firepower. Despite these upgrades and the various new guns you find throughout the game bring you'll still find many enemies are bullet sponges. I find it disturbing that it takes two shots from a double barrel shot gun to put down a pesky mutant that is jumping around like gollum on steroids. That's four bullets for those of you who aren't aware, and the only way you can reduce that is by landing that said first shot as a head shot. However, I've shot mutants in the head with an assault rifle and yet they still do not go down until a second shot is sunk into their stubborn brains, but when they're jumping around off of walls it's difficult to land any number of shots from assault rifles, shotguns or anything else you can throw at them. Perhaps some of this is my fault, I wasn't good with a wing-sticks (darn things keep breaking and not returning to me), or that I am bad at shooting at jumping targets. The shooting in this game feels good and the guns are fun overall. Driving the dune buggies and ATVs in this game are relatively enjoyable but grow old rather fast. Driving from point to point is boring and feels pointless. The racing is ok but again feels pointless. The blue prints, finding items and being able to build rc car bombs, turrets and the like is fun, but doesn't add much to the game. The reason these things don't add up is that this game is BEGGING to be an open world sandbox game. Instead it continues to shuffle you down a corridor. If you're driving, you're stuck inside the "waste-canyon" as I like to call it. If you're on foot you're in a town that feels like a limited street corridor that feels so limited, if you're on a mission you're constantly running into the limitations of the area that continues to beg "why didn't they make this a open-world sandbox game?" The idea of collecting junk and driving around seems to lend itself to a open-sand-box game. Red Dead Redemption offers an open-dusty-world. Resistance 3 offers a ravaged brown world and an enjoyable shooter. Motorstorm offers dusty world where you can race dune-buggies and ATVs. Killzone 3 offers a beautiful sci-fi shooter. Rage has a lot of similarities with Boarderlands. Basically everything this game has done before and it has been done better. If you're itching for another shooter then you should check this game out but otherwise rent first to see if it's your thing.

Fun, great graphics
I'm enjoying this game. I finished Fallout3 and Fallout NV and all the DLC for those games. This is NOT fallout. it's "like" fallout, but the world isn't nearly as open, there is very little hording to be done. The missions are fairly linear, which I like (you can't really get lost trying to find an objective, the level designers lead you directly to the prize). The driving is fun and incredibly, um, realistic, considering you are using a game controller. Bouncing over rocks and against the walls of the race course, you actually fell like you are in the dirt buggy getting bounced around. Hard to explain, but somehow they nailed the driving controller action. The graphics are amazing for the PS3. I'm totally enjoying the game (I'm not done yet). It does not feel like a chore to slog your way through the game, which can happen with some of these type of games. This one is actually FUN to play. If you like Dirt and Fallout3, get Rage and drive around the wastelands instead of walking! Cons: long load times, long game save times, and save screen is on the menu so it takes away from the action to save your game. The game does do an auto-save when entering a new area, but you can sometimes be in that area all night and die near the end and have to start over. In other words, there are no checkpoints during a mission, only when entering or exiting an area (or mission). It's hard to die on easy or normal mode, though. there is a way to revive yourself, and as the game goes on your revive thingy recharges faster and faster. But the long level load times take away from the reality suspension. Overall, its fun and worth playing. After you finish Fallou3 and New Vegas, and Skyrim (if that game has an actual "end"), Red Dead Redemption (ditto for the "end" thing), Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and Infamous and Dirt, and Battlefield3 and Modern Warfare3, then play some Rage. Or go outside every now and then!

great AI and story line
This game has a great mix of weapon building, fighting, racing and the list goes on. I loved playing this, especially the AI is so well done. Not your predictable battles that often happen in similar games like this.

Dull.
I was hoping for an id shooter with a Bethesda story line but RAGE is the opposite. The main story is uninteresting, the side quests are shallow and the enemies are samey bullet-sponges. Think of this game as a sort of "Fallout Lite" and you might not be disappointed.
