Sea-Sheller for Crab, Lobster, Shrimp - 10 pack (Red)

Never having had crab legs before, I was notified a few days before a party I planned that we would need "crackers" and butter cups. I was freaked out at how much crackers cost, and was intrigued when I saw this alternative tool. With a lot of 5 star reviews, I suspected many of them were fake - but then looked and quite a few seemed to be from legit reviewers so I gave them a shot.I was surprised at how sturdy they are. I got the knack for using them to slice down the side of a leg very quickly so I could demonstrate. Although overcoming the smell was another story (really you people EAT that?!?). More people chose these over the 4 crackers I also purchased (and the old pliers and screw driver my 90 year old grandpa insisted on using), so it worked out very well.

Very nice for slicing open the crab legs. These are the same ones you get in a lot of restaurants, they are very sturdy. They won't help you with the really tough shells but are good for zipping open along the legs.

We have been very happy with these plastic shellers. You need to take your time and understand how to hold the crab leg portion and use the correct movement to glide through the shell between the white and the red portions. They are plastic so if you force too much, you'll get some bending after additional uses. I think they are great for the price and this is my second order not because they bent but because we were having additional company.

I bought these in preparation for a seafood dinner party that we were hosting. With King crab, the shells aren't easily cracked using just the crackers, and these work beautifully to rip the legs open without damage to the crab meat. Yes, they are plastic, which gave me some concern before I ordered them, but I suspect they will last a long, long time and will suit my needs perfectly. If you're going to serve crab legs, these make the process much easier and neater!

These are identical to one we had which worked perfectly until we broke it. Have had it for many years. Were thrilled to find same brand here on Amazon

We love a good crab meal and these shellers were fantastic for getting to the meat. A simple repeating prying action (insert the sharp edge under the shell, and pry up to cut) is all it takes to cut longways through the shell. Using the sheller, I was able to cut through the large section at the top of the king crab leg and clean out the meat completely. I never realized how much meat was in there. Not cheap, considering they are just plastic, but they should last for years.

These were ok for the price as they did the job. A somewhat hard time for the joint/claw areas. However I would recommend the seafood scissors over these which were excellent for crab and lobster

I'm giving these 5 stars, with the caveat that you don't use them on king crab legs. They do work, but king crab legs are too spiky and offer too much resistance for these tools. We cut up our hands while trying to power through the hard chitin. These operate like old-fashioned can-openers, and they didn't break even with the tougher king crab shells. I have no doubt they'd do a good job on the smaller crab varieties.
