This book filled in a thousand gaps in my knowledge of the Khmer Rouge calamity. It is well organized, progressing through history and politics with just the right depth of detail. For younger readers (middle school) there are a few parenthetical definitions of rare terms. If you want to understand the opposite of democracy, don't stop with Hitler and Stalin. Understand the horror of Pol Pot.
