I ALWAYS LOVED ELEANOR AND THIS IS ANOTHER SIDE OF HER. AND THE BOOK HAS A PIX OF HER WHEN SHE WAS YOUNG AND LOVELY .. WE HAVE ALWAYS SEEN HER AS A HOMELY WOMAN. I THINK SHE AGED POORLY BUT SHE BECAME AN ICON. NEVER TO BE FORGOTTEN. SHE WAS UNLOVED BY HER FATHER AND HER HUSBAND BUT THIS DOCTOR MET HER SOUL'S NEEDS.

As a fan of "Sarah, Plain and Tall" and the many others in this genre that Patricia has written, I eagerly put my name on the HOLD list at our public library. Since I am a private school librarian, I carefully screen all books before ordering them, and this sometimes means I "shop" in the public library.As quickly as I could after I finished reading the story (and wiping a tear or two away, and thinking about the story), I ordered a copy for our school. Not only does MacLachlan handle death in a gentle, understanding way, but she has given us a story of relationships: family, community, intergenerational, even inter-species (Lucy, the dog).Thank you, author!

Awesome book for all ages of students. Currently reading it to fourth, fifth, and sixth grade classes. Kind of a tear-jerker but has great values for students to learn about using with their peers.

As always, Patricia Mac Laughlin has a way with words that mingles with the heart.This is a good choice to inspire children to feel with their hearts.

Good book for a third grade reader. A little sad for kids who tend to be a more sensitive though.

My son and I loved reading this together - special ties to our farm and grandpa made this book even more special.

This was a sweet story about how much a boy loved his grandfather. I also liked how the entire family became involved in showing not only the grandfather, but also their brother and son how much they are loved.

It's touching and my kid finished reading in less than 2 days
