Superman: Dawnbreaker (DC Icons Series)

This was the last of the 4 books for my husband. We have both read books from this series so far. Can't wait to read this one. Came in great shape, packed nicely.

Took longer than I wanted but it was a good and entertaining book . . .definitely good preview of superman was before

Not completely true to the Superman origin story I love (a little too Lois and Clark) but entertaining all the same.

I loved this book. Definitely understand how much work went in to this. I love origin stories.

This Superman novel was like watching the old Smallville TV show. It was very nostalgic and a decent amount of fun. However I feel like the story didn't quite do it for me. I appreciated the heavy focus on racism and the themes of wanting to belong, but the story had no traction and it was very predictable.Clark Kent and Superman are not necessarily my favorite of the DC characters but I do find his origin and character growth very interesting. It definitely plays well into the themes of racism so I liked that Matt de la Pena took that and ran with it. Superman, himself being an alien, can heavily relate to the issues surrounding that issue. It is something that Superman deals with a lot on his journey. I just wish that the story was a little more fleshed out is all. I needed more depth. That is why I said it read like a season of Smallville. It never truly found it's footing and when it started to get interesting it was over.The characters that were introduced for this book played nicely into Clark's character growth. Both Gloria and Bryan each dealing with something separate, but issues that Clark can also sympathize with. Again I wish there were a little more cameo from Superman lore but the ones we did get were quite satisfying.Really sad that DC and Penguin Random House only contracted these four stories because it would have been nice to see it continue with other characters like The Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, etc. I digress. These stories were fun and I appreciate all four authors for their stories!

One of the best comic based books I have ever read great story. They really need to turn theses books into movies!!!!!

Ammetto senza vergogna di essere molto critica e di parte quando si tratta di Superman 🙈Negli ultimi anni ho praticamente dato vita ad una mia versione di Superman/Clark ed è un personaggio intoccabile per me, ho bisogno di proteggerlo da tutto e da tutti.È stato davvero difficile staccarmi dal mio Superman ideale per leggere questo libro con mente aperta.È ovviamente diverso da come io me lo immagino ma una volta superata questa mia difficoltà personale devo ammettere che Matt de la Peña ha fatto un buon lavoro dal punto di vista dei personaggi.Si vede che ha studiato il carattere di Clark Kent e ha cercato di ricreare una versione che rispecchiasse gli ideali del personaggio classico, con la differenza che qui ci troviamo di fronte ad un Clark ancora molto giovane che deve fare i conti con la scoperta delle sue origini e con i suoi poteri, che ancora non controlla del tutto.Mi è piaciuto come abbia reso bene il suo conflitto interiore ma anche il suo senso di giustizia e il suo attaccamento non solo alla famiglia, ma a tutta Smallville.Smallville stessa mi è piaciuta tanto, mi ha ricordato molto la serie tv che guardavo da piccola ♡Penso che anche Lana sia venuta bene anche se non sono una fan del suo personaggio.Non mi aspettavo di trovare Lex ma nemmeno lui mi è dispiaciuto, così come i genitori di Clark a cui sono molto affezionata.Ho sentito moltissimo la mancanza di Lois che viene giusto nominata solo alla fine ma d'altra parte lei rappresenta il futuro di Clark, quando è già adulto quindi ho trovato la scelta molto sensata e in linea con la storia originale.Ho dato un rating un po' più basso del previsto perché la trama in se non mi ha fatta impazzire più di tanto e mi aspettavo qualcosa di un po diverso.Inoltre sono perfettamente d'accordo sul parlare di temi importanti nei libri, come il razzismo in questo caso (in particolare verso i messicani) dato che è un tema molto attuale, però forse non avrei scelto un libro che dovrebbe concentrarsi principalmente sulla nascita di Superman per farlo.È stata una bella idea e anche coraggiosa sotto un certo punto di vista, ma l'avrei tratta in modo differente.
