I was doubtful at first, thinking the plants would die out, or the pockets would be too small but so far so good as the photo shows. I used a small plastic bag in the bottom of each pocket to hold water before putting in each plant. The strength of the material is good - definitely up to the job, and the matt black appearance is an unobtrusive as one can expect. The material is a kind of felt which does allow water to run through, but also retains water which is essential. The material is also not degrading so far so no problems with anything falling apart. The pockets are a generous size which allows you to put in plently of earth/compose - important to keep plants from drying out. If yo are looking for a vertical planter I would recommend this one. Review: Very good plant wall pockets - I ordered two of these plant wall hangers to start with and was so impressed that I ordered another one for the back of the house. They need screwing into a wall, and there are six holes for screws. There are four large planting pockets. My husband screwed them onto the wall in the right place, then took them off again, as we found it easier to fill the top pocket with compost before putting it back. It really depends how high you position them. I'm really pleased with these pockets and, once the plants have grown a bit, think they will look spectacular.
