Finally Got Reliable Communication with My APC UPS
Worked with Modern PCs Without Needing Old Hardware A lot of APC UPS units still rely on serial-style communication, which becomes annoying when modern computers no longer have serial ports. This cable let me connect directly through USB without digging up an old desktop or adapter chain. Communication Was Stable Once Configured After selecting the correct COM port, I was able to: Access UPS settings Monitor status information Communicate with management software Configure shutdown behavior The connection stayed reliable without random disconnects.

Drivers already included in the OS, works great!
I bought this to connect to the RS232 port on an Eco Worthy 48V 100AH v3 battery and it worked great without modification. The device was auto detected and didn't need extra drivers. I was able to update firmware with no issues.

Not true RS232
As user ERAM noted in a couple of the questions asked about this product, this will only provide 0 to +5V instead of the expected range of -15V to +15V for RS232. In short, it didn't work for me. If it works for you; that's great. I ordered a cable from China on eBay, and it works perfectly.

Works as advertised
I bought this to reset the admin password and the networking on an APC 7932 PDU. The USB-to-RJ12 showed up as a COM port on my laptop. Although I did have to go and download/install the drivers for it myself, it worked like a charm. I'm very pleased with the results.
