Flashing Light is Useless, but Beep is Loud
I have partial hearing loss and am tired of not hearing my timers go off, so I selected this timer because it included a flashing light. However, it turns out the light is about the size of pinhead and unless I'm looking directly at it, I can't tell it's flashing. I keep the timer on my desk next to where I'm working on the computer and even out of the corner of my eye, that flashing light doesn't get my attention. However, I was delighted to discover that this timer is really as loud as it says it is. I can hear it every time, whether I'm sitting next to it or across the room, so I don't need the light. When I purchased it, all I cared about was knowing when time was up, but as I've used it, I've fallen in love with some of the features. The one thing I don't like is clearing the times so I can set a new one. I was used to one push of a button, but each digit showing needs to be deleted one at a time before a new time can be inputted. However, I tend to mostly use the same time frames, so I love that I can program 4 times into memory and bypass deleting any numbers to start it with one push of a button. I like being able to switch from timer to clock mode. The digital numbers are large and easier to read than the tiny time stamp on the corner of my computer screen. I have even used the count up feature a few times when I wanted to know how long it took me to do something (like in counting exercise minutes to report to my weight loss group), or when I am going to be interrupted and need to pause it - so much easier than writing down times and doing a lot of math. Because of the extra features I probably would have by-passed this model if not for that flashing light as I'd not had a timer I can easily hear even when they are labeled as being loud. I'm so glad I bought this one. I didn't know what I was missing. I love it and would buy it again.

Absolutely love this timer
I had an old and beloved timer with a full keypad that gave out after 20 years of constant use. I tried to replace it with a cheap one with only a few buttons to set everything. It was difficult to figure out exactly how to switch back and forth between different functions and laborious to set the time with only a few buttons to scroll through numbers. That cheap one died after only 6 months. This one, on the other hand, is even better than my first timer.. It has very clear buttons to switch between, clock, interval timer, and timer modes. It has large clear numbers to read. It is so easy to set clocks and timers, with a full pad of numbers. The interval timer was an extra special bonus which I find very handy for repetitive tasks I want to time. I've only been using this for a few days so do not know if it has the durability of my old clock, but so far it works wonderfully.

ALMOST PERFECT
Maybe the overall best timer for now. This review is for a busy person who cooks a lot and uses timers multiple times every day, often several at once, and who does not want to waste efforts setting timers or straining to hear or see them. Here's how I evaluate this kitchen timer. 1) Visibility - The numbers are large and the minute numbers are in a larger type than the second numbers which eliminates confusion when glancing at a row of moving numbers. 2) One handed use - timer is very large compared to others which means that it sits flat and can be operated quickly with one hand if the timer is pushed up against a wall. It does take up more counter space so there is a trade off that for me is worth the speed that comes with stability. 3) Keypad for setting time is essential for speed. This one is easy to see and use, and is unmatched by any other timer (you know I have tried and returned plenty of them, thanks to Amazon making this easy). 4) Sound - This timer gives you a choice for both a loud and average volume, with a simple easy to change toggle switch on the bottom. 5) Memory - There are four easy to set memorized time keys which are very handy. However - the timer does not auto repeat the last time set - and worse yet is the need to manually clear the what ever time shows after turning off the timer. So what does this mean? The timer goes into count up mode when it goes off so that you know how long it has gone over the time it was set for. For instance, you turn the timer off five seconds after it starts ringing, then you must hit the clear button once before you can set a new time. If twelve seconds have passed since the timer went off, then you must either hit the clear button twice or hold clear button down for two seconds and it will beep to clear all digits. Most good timers will auto reset to last time used, with a separate clear button for the entire time. However, to its credit, if you turn off the timer, you can hit one of the four memory buttons and not waste time with clearing the digits 6) Other functions - I don't use them but it has a count up, clock and interval mode. 7) What's missing - for one - when you press a key there is no beep to confirm it was pressed, so if you are in a hurry and don't press the start button just right, and LOOK to confirm, the timer may not have started and you are lost. Also, my ultimate perfect timer will have three built in timers going at once. Does a perfect timer exist? Oxo tried twice, but the units were horribly made and failed so much they yanked them off the market and say they don't know if they will ever make another one. There is also a triple timer on I think the thermo works site, but the reviews are horrible and the price is outrageous. Several times a day I need at least two timers going at once, like just now making lunch and oatmeal at once. While this Marathon is my favorite go to timer, I have three back up timers - the thomas which is good enuf, an old old oxo triple timer on it's last legs and a samshow triple. OKOKOK, call me picky and obsessive, but do want a sloppy person doing your brain surgery or making your custard and breads? Bottom line, reorganize your messy counter a wee bit, and make room for the big timer. Once you get use used to how to work it, you will love it. Marathon clocks are an old established high quality Canadian company, and this timer is built to last unlike most of the garbage stuff made to stop working quickly. For speed of setting with one hand, ease of hearing and ease of viewing, nothing comes close to the Marathon timer. Hmmm, I might just have to buy a second one...

Works Great...
The timer is easy to use, easy to set up with quik pre-sets!! My only question is how come it doesnt have an auto shut off? Not for the alarms, for the whole unit. After you are done using it it stays on all the time. Even if I hit the off button. I figure it is draining the batteries. But, I've had it for over a month, used it many times and the batteries are still good.

nice level volume, not the greatest kitchen timer, can use as a travel alarm clock
I have to say that I don't really like this timer because it's got a lot of extra functions and features that I will probably never use. And the features that I do use are a little bit of a pain to do and could use some improving. It is also a larger sized timer and takes up more room on the counter and it more noticeable. I stick with using it because I can't find a better one with a quiet alarm. This one has a nice quiet alarm beep that doesn't feel like it's screaming at me. I can still hear it all over the house wherever I am, so the volume is perfectly adequate for what I need. So many other timers are just way way too loud. I should also mention that this one sounds like the speaker that creates the beeping is dying. I don't know if all the timers sound like that or just the one I got. It's an annoying sound that adds a hoarseness and scratchiness to the beeping, but the volume is good. When you are pressing the buttons, there is not much of a click and no beep to let you know the timer registered the entry. You have to press hard and make sure the digital display shows what you entered. The buttons for the saved times (m1, m2, m3, m4) are right next to the number key pad and I'm constantly pressing the 3 instead of m3. When you set the timer for, let's say 2 minutes, and it counts down and then starts beeping...it doesn't show the end time, it just starts counting up to let you know how much time has passed since the alarm went off. So if you don't remember what you set it for, you don't have a way to find out. For example if you are cooking pasta and want to add something in like vegetables at a certain time, you'd set the timer for 5 minutes. When the timer goes off you'd add the veggies to the boiling pasta water and then go to set the timer for the additional time needed...but what if you can't remember if you set it for 5 or 6 minutes? You have no way to find out how long the pasta has already cooked so you have to guess at the remaining cooking time. You also have to remember what you've set the memory buttons for. You have to press each one to find out which one is the one you want. By the time you find the right one, you could have already manually entered the time. So you have to try to memorize which button is which time setting or else they are useless. When the timer goes off, it starts counting up until you silence it by pressing the start/stop button. Then you have to remember to press the C/AC button to clear that left-over count so that you can enter a new time the next time you use the timer. If you forget to clear that count it stays there and messes up the next time entry. So, if it takes you 8 seconds to turn off the beeping and then you want to set it for 5 minutes and you forget to clear the 8 second count, you will be setting the timer for 85 minutes and then have to delete and re-enter the correct 5 minute time. It's really annoying. I do like that you can set this timer for up to 99 hrs 99 min and 99 sec. You could use it as an alarm clock, and it would work well as a travel alarm clock. It has a clock setting which shows the current time like a digital alarm clock, and when you go to bed you can set the timer to go off in 8 hours or whenever it is you need to wake up. I've never used the clock, interval timer or count-up modes. I wouldn't really recommend this timer unless you think you need all those extra features. The only reason I didn't return it is because the timer has a nice gentle volume on the low setting and that is hard to find.

Excellent timer!
I've used this for a couple months now. LOVE the big, contrasty display (I'm so tired of cramped, low-contrast displays, like Oxo). Numeric keypad is MUCH faster for dialing in values. Also, this timer is super accurate. Minor quibbles: I would like audible confirmations for each button press. And I think the indicator LED is too small. It's like a flashing red pinhead. For those who've noted you have repeatedly press the "clear" key to get rid of a value, you simply have to long-press that key, and it will eliminate the entire value instantly.

By far the best timer of the many I have had.
The controls are very easy to work and the 4 memory functions work great. i have had approx 4 timers and this is head and shoulders above the rest if you don't require vibrate or a alarm that hurts your ears. The logic of the buttons is very good. Quality buttons. Is large and does not have a vibrate function so it would of not worked at work for me. I make tea many times a day and this rocks! WORTH IT!!

Worked for Less than One Year
The timer worked great for about a year. And then, like another reviewer said, the display stopped working. Another piece of JUNK to throw out. I guess we all need to adjust our expectations. Nearly everything made today is JUNK!

Not a kitchen timer
I'm sure this is perfect for sports interval timing etc but I bought it thinking it had four timers for kitchen use as per the Hygiplas timer, but this is not so & was very frustrating trying to figure it out only to find it did not have that facility. Had to send it back. BUT don't be put off for the other facilities it offers.

Fantastic customer service
I had this alarm for a year and a half and I have been very happy with that. Then suddenly died. I tried to make it work with no success. I have enquired at the customer service what could I do. I have been sent a new one immediately. That is how a customer service should work. Well done.

Nice timer. I like the fact that you can time partial minutes for boiled eggs for example.
My timer was almost ruined when the batteries provided leaked battery acid into the chamber. I suggest removing the batteries provided and replacing them with a better brand as other reviewers mentioned the same problem with battery acid leakage. (I used a Qtip dipped in rubbing alcohol and gently cleaned the battery terminals. I let the chamber dry for 10 minutes or so and replaced the old batteries with new . Fortunately, the timer began to function again)

Totally commercial grade!
I bought this to use in a restaurant. You can time up to 4 things at once, multiple hours, plus a clock, etc. Would recommend.
