The Rise: An Unforgettable Journey of Self-Love, Forgiveness, and Transformation

Starts strong, but fades into typical new age fluff.
I have followed Danette May for some time now. I have had great success with her 30 day nutritional re-set programs, and have experienced many positive changes as her dietary recommendations re-wired the way I look at, and prepare food. Her online support groups were wonderful during this process, and I admired her greatly. That is the reason I decided to purchase her book and read as an inspiration to start the new year. The beginning of the book contains compelling stories of her difficult life, and her inspirational climb out of depression, into the light of loving self esteem. I loved her stories of finding true friends, and how the support of a loving girl friend(s) is critical for a healthy life. This has been no small journey for Danette May. Her explanations of the life changing elements of movement and nature upon one’s life are profound indeed. Her tips on hard work, perseverance, and business entrepreneurship are inspiring, and there are great recommendations of further reading for those hungry to grow their business. The “Mastermind group” idea was especially interesting. As Danette started to explain her inner growth, I was disappointed. She went down a path of self discovery, that involves “remembering” from an ancient cellular perspective. It becomes cosmic and muddy, and sounds like so many other books that paint enlightenment as an obsession with “self.” I expected so much more regarding the mind body connection.. She clearly experimented with mind altering substances in a tribal sweat lodge, and somehow excused this “healthy” behavior under the guise of self exploration, and enlightenment. I would not recommend this book to a developing young lady. Her references to “religion” implied a negative, “narrow minded” view of conservative faith and traditional boundaries. Her message could have been so much more effective, if she had remained slightly more pragmatic as she was in beginning of the book, and stayed away from implications that religion was bad. It started great, but fell apart, and became trite in the end. Self inner development is a journey, and certainly a mystical one. Unfortunately, self absorption as the key to a happy life is where this story ended up.

A must read for anyone (not just women) who really wants to make a change in their life
I seldom write feedback or am engaged in social media. I fell in love with Danette May a year ago when by accident, I “found her” on Facebook. Once again, I rarely ever use Facebook so for me to have seen Danette was truly a blessing. My “affair” with Danette began with a few random exercises and then developed onto the 30 Day Challenge which completely transformed something in me. I am also a member of Fit Rise. I feel better than ever, energetic and strong, am eating healthily and working out on a daily basis. I suffer from chronic sinusitis and have even went through surgery which was not successful and for 2 years, “before Danette,” I was taking strong antibiotics on a monthly basis due to sever migraines caused by the sinus infections. Once I began my journey with Danette all of this ended! I no longer suffer from these terrible migraines and I feel strong and healthy. I have always been very conscious about what I eat (I don’t eat junk food or fried foods at all), but something about Danette’s food combinations, as well as combining these delicious recipes with daily exercises and mediations, just clicked. As my “affair” with Danette continued, I discovered Danette’s positive influence as a motivationalist and inspirationalist through her webinars. Danette is captivating and very intelligent and a true pleasure to listen to. I have never been one to be attracted to self-help books, mediations and so on, but there is something about Danette, as well as the timing in my life, that just works for me.I come from a very pro-women family and I love to see and hear strong independent women. I raise my three kids to be just that! I have two girls and one son (sandwiched in-between) and I raise them to know, believe and feel that they can do anything they want regardless of their gender, color, religion, size (they’re all small) , or “popular beliefs.”It was only natural that I order Danette’s book The Rise – both out of interest and out of a desire to support strong women. Danette’s book arrived on November 2nd and by the morning of the 3rd I had already finished reading it. I couldn’t stop! The book moved and touched me in so many ways. I cried, I felt, I identified. I was captivated. Danette is a strong-willed woman who takes charge of her life and truly wants to share her experiences so that other women can benefit from her journey and knowledge. Danette is a hopeful person that sheds positive energy in a real, vibrant and down to earth way. This book will be passed on to all of my family members and anyone and everyone I love and care for. It’s a must read for anyone (not just women) who really wants to make a change in their life and become a more positive and grounded person.Hats off to Danette for what she has accomplished, for what she’s about and for her journey to come.Shirlee Segev

An honest review from a male perspective
You're probably thinking "why is a guy reading this?" Well, with the support of a friend, I got involved in Danette's 30-day diet plans and it helped me lose about 50lbs in the beginning of my weight loss journey. I did the male version of her recipes of course. So three degrees from that, plus a little encouragement from my friend, I am reading this book. This book will get you inside the mind of an inspirational motivational speaker. For all the women out there. Danette lays out the blueprint for getting back on your feet after hitting rock bottom. Danette opens up by sharing her own personal experiences so that you can walk through her path towards finding herself and apply that concept towards getting through your own trials and turbulations in life. I bought three of these books for the female family members in my life and I would encourage the ladies that are going through tough times to read this too.For all the fellow guys out there, I don't think you would be able to connect to the message as much unless you have a vested interest in a woman in your life that is going through very tough times in their personal life. If you know someone who is, this book will help you relate to them and sympathize with what they are going through. Otherwise, you'd probably want to pass.

Excellent book for every person who suffers with depression or sadness.it will help you to rise above your daily issues and live a better life. Its like Having someone by your side who has gone through the same as you knowing you are not alone.Having someone with You 24/7 some you can relate to when things are bad to give you upliftment.Much Better than a therapist. It eases the burden when dealing withba long term health condition.

Absolutely amazing, inspiring and encourageging truth telling book
Absolutely love this book. Love the honesty and vulnerability that Dannette is sharing and inspiring us to step into. It's amazing to read a story and know we are not alone in being scared to be vulnerable, living in fear, and yet knowing the example of what's possible on the other side of the fear. Thank you Dannette.
