I pluged it in once to perheat and once to do a melt it broke and the company is unresponsive.

At first blush the quality appears to be sound. Upon examination it appears I was sent a 2kg smelter with a 2.6 cm asbestos pad to stack on top in case I decided to try and smelt a full 3 kg...(but if I use this the top can't close so there is a severe heat loss / graphite oxidation issue that just seems like an odd way to deal with the issue. The company should have just SAID "we're out of 3 kg smelters, here's the 2 kg instead plus a donut if you decide to try it". ...hmmm There are no instructions included so this is truly a buyer beware. If this is your first time with a 'port-A-smelter' then pay attention to proper break-in procedure fore a new coil. Do NOT use a crucible or metal for the break-in...this is a purely electricity burning operation that will save you trouble going forward. Turn power on. Check your lights etc. on the digi-display. Set up your first burn between 1700-1800 F and set your timer (not included) to four hours. BUT FIRST!! There is a scratch resistance film on all surfaces so make sure to remove it all..yes ALL! As it ramps up you will notice it start to creak and smoke like a ready to erupt volcano in general...this is normal. Be sure you are in a well ventilated area!!!! If you are in any way respitorily compromised, have someone else attend this process for you. So that's where I'm at right now.. I'll add to this after some power smelting sessions.

the instructions for this unit are PISS POOR !!!!!!!!!!!..... you don't know if you are setting the brake in temp for C or F .the instructions do not say anything about that or what you are looking at .. I bought and payed for a 3kg unit and got a 2kg ... there is nothing online or nothing on any videos about setting the temps on this ... more to come I guess with this unit .

I purchased the 4KG one and it melts aluminum without breaking sweat. However I tried to melt copper today and left it on at 2000F for quite some time. The bits of copper I had in there seemed to fuse together but not melt into a liquid at all. Can some one please help?
