If I were still a Millennial, I would be insulted by THE SEASONAIRES. Yes, I know these plum jobs exist. After all, who wouldn’t want to be handsomely paid to be a living advertisement for anything from clothing to gourmet food? The book is a minute-by-minute accounting of six seasonaires, hired by fashion maven, Lyndon Wyld. The cast of characters includes Mia, the poor Southie girl whose mother is dying of cancer (too formulaic); Presley, the faux rich girl who was raised in a trailer park with seven relatives (psst - nobody is supposed to know); Jade, the daughter of a music mogul; J.P., a designer of men’s hats; Cole, an enigma wrapped in a riddle; and Grant, an obnoxious party animal. They are ensconced in an enormous Nantucket estate, where they are overseen by Lyndon Wyld, who refers to them as “my lovelies” (reminiscent of the Wicked Witch in the WIZARD OF OZ’s “my pretty”); her sister Grace, who discovered Mia working in a Southie thrift shop; an overburdened housekeeper; and the ubiquitous creepy Vincent, who shadows them everywhere with his camera and speaks pigeon French.Ms. Wyld directs her lovelies to amass Instagram followers, as well as attention on Snapchat, by posting video diaries and photos while wearing her polyester/cotton blend clothing. Hashtag BeWyld is the order of each day, as they constantly take selfies in their Lyndon Wyld attire. Not to my surprise, jealousy and snarkiness arise from the minute the sophisticated Presley lays eyes on the naive Mia (who has more brains than her teammates, so trite). In one turning point, Presley goes off the rails after she gives Poor Mia a Lyndon Wyld hand-me-down dress. Mia makes the dress her own by cutting part of the skirt into fringe. Her Instagram followers exponentially increase when she posts her selfies, and Wyld goes wild. She names the fringed dress The Mia and promises Mia a deal (and because Poor Mia, by definition, must also be naive and not too bright, I kinda have a hunch the deal is underhanded.)Drama also spreads like wildfire when seasonaires from a competing fashion house, run by the sleazy Otto, show up on the island. Not to my surprise, the team members begin taking compromising photos of each other, sometimes while they are consorting with the enemy team. Oh the drama at the infamous Rabbit Hole, a townie hangout by day, whose bartender plays in the band at night. How shocking to learn that drugs exchange hands at the Hole.Days are spent guzzling mimosas and tequila shots, a novel experience for Mia and her fake driver’s license. Shopping, yachting, cavorting on the beach while constantly using their SMARTPHONES (that word seems to pop up in every paragraph - I got it the first time!), as the plot thickens. A serious crime takes place, and the Nantucket PD interrogates The Seasonaires. Mon Dieu, as Vincent would say. The story meanders along until the mystery is solved, at the same time Poor Mia shows her true colors as Smart Kind Mia.Very little about THE SEASONAIRES appeals to me. The writing is sophomoric, and the characters (including Mia) are vapid, superficial and not very likable (probably due to the nature of the job - this isn’t rocket science!). Somewhat hidden in the drama, however, is an important story. Drug use on Nantucket and Cape Cod has become an epidemic. I was shocked by a documentary on the subject of heroin and cocaine in this part of the country. I commend the author for including this subplot in her book.I really do not like having to write a negative review! Janna King shows promise as a writer, and I will read her next book. I also understand why THE SEASONAIRES is popular. Everyone enjoys a fantasy.

Terrific summer read!
Full disclosure: I went to high school with Ms. King so I bought the book to support a friend and her endeavors. That being said, I read her book and I enjoyed it. I won't give another plot summary because that can be found anywhere. What I liked was the story concept of a company employing 20-somethings to promote their brand through social media while having a summer of fun and frolic in Nantucket. That is a realistic idea for marketing in this instant gratification, internet addicted world we live in. Of course, things go wrong, people hook up, get hurt, incidents with drugs and alcohol while trying to show off an idyllic paradise on the surface. Having never been there, the author gives good descriptions of the surroundings so I could have a vivid picture in my mind of this beautiful island destination. I understood where most of the characters were coming from (they're not all exactly likable humans). It did take me a little bit to get everyone straight and who was connected to who but it does become clear. The last third was an absolute page turner and I couldn't put it down. I enjoyed "The Seasonaires". It's a terrific summer read. (less)

Like reading a trashy magazine cover-to-cover
This is the book equivalent of eating a whole bag of Doritos in one sitting-at first the book seems compelling and addictive but then you realize that it has no real substance. All of the characters are pretty awful people with no real character growth throughout the book. And the author has a really weird idea of how British people talk. Nobody talks like that except on tv written by Americans. All in all, I can't recommend this book.

Dreadful
Possibly the worst I’ve read this summer. Insipid characters, disjointed plot, and really poor writing. It was an effort to finish.

Fun read
Just finish and loved it. Lots of interesting characters with big personalities. Really brought to life an area I didn't know anything about. Found it interesting all latest social media hashtags etc. Surprise ending. Hope the author writes a sequel.

There is simply nothing about this book that I didn't LOVE! Intrigue and suspense coupled with beauty and fashion, all set in a gorgeous place! It's the perfect summer read. You'll love, hate, cheer and condemn the characters -- and enjoy every minute of it!

A LOT of Spelling/Grammar Errors
Good story line and character development. However, I have never read a book with this many spelling and grammar errors. Very disappointed in that.
