Durable, Fast, Convenient, Quality Drive at a Reasonable Price
I went shopping to replace an old drive that had died, hoping to find something more durable from the same brand. I found this one instead. It offered better features in roughly the same price range. Though I hesitated, because I didn't recognize the brand, I'm very glad I made the purchase. I am very impressed with this drive. It is fast, durable, and travels well. I've not yet dropped it or gotten it wet, but I generally treat my external hard drives more roughly than I probably should. They are my link between multiple computers in different locations, so I carry them around from place to place, transferring them to and from backpacks, briefcases, and other bags without much care for cushioning. This drive always plugs in and is instantly recognized, on both my Mac and PC. It also comes with two cables. A short one fits inside a compartment on one side of the drive and goes everywhere you take the drive. I like this, because it means there's not separate cable to pack. The longer one is useful if you don't want to drive directly alongside you computer, but it has to be carried separately. There is also an rubber cover that protects the USB port. I've already recommended this drive to friends, and I'm recommending it here. If it holds up as well and long as I think it will, Silicon Power drives will probably become our new hard drives of choice across the board.

Solid hard drive
I've bought 3 of these (a 1 TB version and two of the 2 TB versions). After so many failures with WD and Seagate hard drives, I decided I needed something more "sturdy." I've dropped one of these a couple of times on my hardwood floors (just a couple of feet from coffee table height) and unlike my earlier WD and Seagate hard drives, these little guys kept trucking along. I've been using 2 of these for the past 5 years and 1 of these for the past 4 years and none of my 3 have yet to fail. I'm sure that they will fail one of these days (that's what all hard drives do eventually), so that's why I duplicate my backups among these 3 hard drives (with more backups in the cloud just in case). I use the 1 TB version as a time capsule backup for my Mac and the other two 2 TB hard drives get used for long term backup, all encrypted of course (my files are duplicated on both so that when one hard drive fails, I still have a backup for my backup). Yes, I am paranoid about my data. I am surprised by all of these reviews that complain about losing a ton of data because their hard drive failed one day. Of course your hard drive will eventually fail. You have to have a backup for your backup because all hard drives will eventually fail at some point. If you don't have a backup for your backup, you are playing with fire! Remember, it's not a question of whether your hard drive will fail, but rather, it's a question of when. Anyways, to make a long story short, these suckers seem a good bit more reliable than my prior experiences with those cheap Western Digital and Seagate drives.

This product is AWESOME. I just received my Armor A80 external harddrive ...
This product is AWESOME. I just received my Armor A80 external harddrive and I love it. It has a real solid feel to it and should live up to its claims of being crush-proof. Perfect for carrying around in a backpack, briefcase or tool bag. Silicon Power touts this HDD as being durable enough for their "3 Meter Drop Test" and "300KG Press Test" plus it is waterproof. To boot, it has a sleek looking shell. One might have expected a less attractive casing for something so sturdy. And lastly, I like that a USB 3.0 cable is conveniently stored in a side recess, but Silcon Power went the extra mile and provided a longer second cable for your convenience. This drive is a steal at this price just for the storage capacity. Its speed, durability, sleekness, and waterproofing make it a no-brainer!

Second purchase from these guys
I got this drive to replace the identical 1 TB drive I purchased 4 years ago that just now started to make a few noises, but still works (better safe than sorry). My first drive took some abuse! Besides the typical knocking it off a counter, off a desk, into the middle of an equipment cabinet, I've traveled around the world several times with this drive in a backpack and it keeps on working, even after several of my colleagues plastic drives that are just a couple bucks cheaper have split, cracked, the cable shorts out, and they are stuck without data. My 1 TB version has been referred to as magical, mythical and near bulletproof* DISCLAIMER - DRIVE IS NOT ACTUALLY BULLETPROOF, DO NOT ATTEMPT Also, at least with my 1 TB drive, it was a standard 2.5" drive inside, not soldered into the circuit board so feasibly, if you wanted to, you could put your own drive in the case. I have not tested that. It uses a standard USB, not the mini or micro, which seems to be a bit more durable on the cable when abusing this drive, and comes with two cables, a 3 ft cable, and a little 3" cable that is fitted into the side of the drive, so if you're in a pinch and can't find the longer one, you can make do. After 4 years, that little cable still stays securely in the drive as it is tossed around my backpack all day. If you are a road warrior, clumsy, or just plain need a drive that won't fail should a small child start helping you "clean" your desk, drop the extra couple bucks and get a drive that can handle the abuse. It's the Nokia Brick Phone of external hard drives

Good ruggedized 2TB HD.
This is a rugged but portable 2TB hard drive to fit the most demanding needs. Works like it should and has given me no issues. Not sure how practical the short USB cable is that comes stored in the side of the case. I could see it coming in handy for transferring photos from a camera or some such, but at 3" would be limited in use.

Everything I wanted short of a new laptop
Very happy with this external HD. I have a MacBook Pro with a 256GB HD and I've been running out of space lately for some lecture videos I've been recording. I bought a 128GB internal SD card and a 128GB USB drive but those only lasted a year before I had them mostly filled up too. So I switched over to this bad boy. I find it to actually be faster than my SSD USB and SD drives even though its an HDD. It definitely feels rugged. I haven't thrown it against the wall or anything but I feel pretty confident it would hold up. I went ahead and bought the recommended case with it just cause I'm paranoid and plan on throwing this thing in the bottom of my backpack. With this case as well I think it could probably get run over by a truck and be fine, plus with the storage case I've got a spot for both the super short portable cable (on the drive itself) and the little bit longer cable that it also comes with. I've since recommended this drive to several of my friends as we will be lecture videos and photos to each other around the country and I'm sure this drive will handle it fine. Will edit if it breaks!

Great additional storage space, fast.
My computer was running out of memory and becoming very slow. So I purchased this external hard-drive to remove some of the rarely used content from my computer so its would work normally again. I moved to my external hd 230 gigabites worth of videos, music, pictures and documents that I rarely or never use, and erased them from memory on my computer (after making sure they are on the external hd). This only took up 0.23 Terabites of the 1.81 T (of usable memory) available. My computer now works fast (like new), with half of its internal (drive C:) memory free. I leave the external hd attached and can always quickly access any file I want on it with a speed which seems very close to my computers internal hard drive (the 3.0 usb option is great although I don't believe I have a 3.0 usb) . I have only had this external hd for a little over a week, and I'm very happy so far. I hope it will last for a good while, I like it :) Note: transferring large files (using 2.0 usb takes a while), but it's well worth it.

Great drive, very tough, very fast, contains both cables. Can't beat it!
Many people have written about the drive characteristics of this wonderful device, so I won't. I'll simply say that this drive absolutely rocks in all aspects. Very rugged, and the cable plugs into the device in a VERY solid, snug, reliable manner, as it uses the full sized USB connectors on both ends. The shorter cable can be stored on the device, which is extremely handy. It does come with both lengths of cable - thanks for that! Long story short, I have no complaints at all. The only little thing is that the surface is a little slick - I'd prefer a non-slip cover to the gorgeous blue anodized metal cover. And it is gorgeous! I get comments on it all the time. The design and appearance belies the toughness of this little beauty. Don't let this scare you off - it's just a little less "grippy" than I would prefer. No big deal unless you are using it while literally hanging 40 feet off the ground. Great drive, very tough, very fast, contains both cables. Can't beat it!

Working really well and sems to load files much faster than my other external drives
I have moved some Extra very bulky storage including Backup files of over 1 TB which were filling up my other storage drives. Now happily all going to this new drive and still with plenty of room to spare.

EXCELENTE PRODUCTO

AMAZING HARD DRIVE!
After experiencing a hard drive failure with a cheap WD hard drive earlier in the year, I wanted make sure my next hard drive was going to be one that I could store my data on confidently. This lead me to this Silicon Power A80 external drive. When it came in earlier today I was blown away by how amazing its design and build quality is. Some of the cool design features on this are its usb cord slot which keeps the transfer cord snug next to your hard drive at all times. This was amazing for me since I always travel with my hard drives and I found myself always rummaging through a bunch of cords to find the proper USB cord. On the other side of the drive is the USB slot itself which has a waterproofing cover which certainly supports the company's claims that this device is waterproof. This drive is also really fast comparing to other drives I've used. I just transferred around 110GB and it only took about 15 minutes. Overall, I'm really impressed and have a lot of confidence in this hard drive. Based on how my experience continues with this drive in the coming months I can 100% see myself buying more of these.

Good, solid, reliable drives.
Disk included a very short USB3 connector seen in the photo as well as a longer 18" cord. The short cord would not be long enough to plug into my PC to transfer data regardless but would be OK for a laptop. I haven't had time to load it up yet though. I bought this as a companion to my Armor A30 which has been very good so far. There is an exe file on the disk to take you to the warranty registration site. Update: I have had this drive for a year and it continues to work great. We loaded a pile of movies/music/photos on it for portable use and also to plug directly into our Bluray player. Further update: I have purchased another 1TB drive this time as a Christmas gift which I preloaded with several MP4 movies for our grandkids. Update: Drive still works fine after 5+ years.
