A great book that influenced me and my business for the better
The media could not be loaded. Social science research indicates that most people spend 40% of their time at work trying to influence others. However, few of us have spent enough time studying how to influence others effectively. The most impactful book on influence I’ve ever read was Robert Cialdini’s "Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion" which was first published in 1984. In it, Cialdini explains the psychology of why people say "yes"—and how to apply his findings to everyday life.Since it has been about a decade since I read Cialdinin’s book, I decided to go back to to refresh my knowledge. However, before I could do that, a friend introduced me to Brian Ahearn’s outstanding book "Influence People." The subtitle of Ahearn’s book is “Powerful Everyday Opportunities to Persuade that are Lasting and Ethical.” These words encapsulate nicely the relevancy of the book to anybody regardless of what they do for a living.Ahearn is one of 20 individuals in the world who has earned a Cialdini Method Certified Trainer designation directly from Robert Cialdini. Ahearn’s passion and understanding of the science of influence comes through strongly on every page of his book which took me about three hours to read.As an author of two books, I can attest to the quality of Ahearn’s work. His central points are well-documented and presented in a compelling way. The book flows nicely blending social science research with relevant anecdotes from Ahearn’s extensive experience in the corporate world. The book gave me a lot of specific ideas on how I could apply what I learned in Ahearn’s book to become more influential both at work and at home.I look forward to returning to this book as a reference and highly recommend it to anybody looking to wield lasting and ethical influence in a powerful way.

Practical tips for business and life
We all spend hours of our days at work and home trying to convince other people to think or behave in certain ways. In fact, research indicates that we all spend up to 40 percent of our time working to influence others. Those in sales, litigation and other arenas must dedicate much more of their time to persuasion. That’s why I’m excited that my friend Brian Ahearn, published this great book. Brian is one of 20 people worldwide certified by Dr. Robert Cialdini, the researcher whose books form the basis of the science of persuasion. Brian gave me a review copy of the book and what I love about it is that he applies the principles of influence to everyday work and life. I purchased my own copy on Amazon and, if you have an interest in learning how to ethically persuade others to say “yes,” you’ll want to read this book as well.I coach and train CEOs and other leaders on leadership, communication and influence and what I've learned from Brian over the past ten years has been invaluable for teaching my clients as well as for growing my own business. You'll find practical tips here that will pay for themselves hundreds of times over the cost of this book. Enjoy and apply what you learn.

Solid read!
Influencing is about P.E.O.P.L.E.! This book shared methods and principles that will help one be a better influencer. I enjoyed the case studies that helped drive home the points. I liked how ethics were brought into the principles of influence. I connected with the author through LinkedIn and had a nice conversation about the book. I look forward to his next book release coming later this month.

Actionable - What every book aspires to be
In general we read to learn. In business we read to act. Brian's book is a great example of pulling out all the important information around how influence works and adds the most important ingredient... the how.Being a fan of some of the information around social psychology and behavioral economics I understood many of the theories in the book (and there are a ton) I most enjoyed seeing them put into context in the real world.Easy to read. Easy to understand. Easy to put into action.Worth the read because if you don't your competitors might.

A MUST HAVE BOOK IF YOU SELL FOR A LIVING
Brain Ahern synthesizes the science of persuasion in the most efficient way one could imagine. Brian gives you the meat of the subject in his easy to read masterpiece. I tend to find most books to be full of fluff and I underline only the meat of the books I read. I found myself underlinining most of Brian's book! I have read over 300 books on selling and persuasion and I put this book in the top 5 of all time! Don't miss this jewel!
