One of the Nicest Crochet Pattern Books. Good designs in lots of sizes.
Crochet clothing – nice crochet clothing! Things people can actually wear and be happy and not be embarrassed (not the typical crochet patterns that your grandmother would have thought were old-fashioned when she was a teenager). And lots of size variation.I actually bought a second copy of this book so I could mark one up and tear out pages and still have a clean copy.Included designs are listed below. I am also giving the finished bust sizes, as one designer’s “small” is another’s not so small. Also, by the size variations, you can get an idea if an item is tight or loose fitting. The yarns are given by weight (light = 3, medium =4, et al.,) plus yardage (how many yards/meters per ounces/grams); the individual yarns used in the pictured items are also given. That is helpful whether you want to use the exact yarn or substitute. Crochet hook sizes are given in millimeter and letter size (F, G, H, et al.). Diagrams are given for the clothing pieces but not there are no symbols for the crochet stitch patterns. The skill level (easy or intermediate) is also given for each piece.1. Carefree Cardigan, seven sizes (XS to 3X, 34.5” to 59”), medium weight yarn, 5mm and 5.5mm hooks. An openwork cardigan with a wide round neckline with one big button. Cute for autumn.2. Buttons & Shells Jacket, three sizes (S to L, 35” to 51.5”), light weight yarn, 5mm and 5.5mm hooks. The body of the sweater is sideways shells, with four large button closure and an open neck with a collar that folds down. This is a nice look, but I’m not sure how practical that open neck is.3. Puff-Sleeved Cardigan, six sizes (XS to 2X, 46” to 68.5”), medium weight yarn, 5mm hook. This is the cover sweater. I’m not crazy about the puff sleeves or the sleeve length, but it seems it would be very easy to adapt when I make this one.4. Double-Up Jacket, six sizes (S to 3X, 36.5” to 58”), medium weight yarn, 5mm hook. Round neck jacket, a modified double-breasted, meaning it has two sets of buttons just at the top and the rest hangs open.5. All-Buttoned-Up Vest, six sizes (XS to 2X, 32” to 52”), light weight yarn, 4mm and 5mm hooks. This is an asymmetrical vest that is meant to be worn buttoned. Much cuter than a regular vest.6. Classical Jacket, seven sizes (XS to 3X, 30” to 55.5”), medium weight yarn, 5mm and 5.5mm hooks. Very cute jacket. It is double-breasted, with a collar, and a peplum. I’m not crazy about the double-breasted look, but the rest is really nice, very soft looking. The sleeves also have a flair at the end, which the designer also calls a peplum. It should be fairly easy to adapt to single-breasted if you are so inclined.7. Blue Heaven Sweater, six sizes (XS to 2X, 31” to 51”), medium weight yarn, 5.5mm hook. Very cute little sweater with a single button forming a V-neck when fastened. It is shown as a short, fitted sweater with three-quarter length sleeves, but it should be super simple to vary any of those elements.8. Something Special Cardigan, seven sizes (XS to 3X, 30” to 54.5”), light weight yarn, 5mm hook. Cute basic cardigan in the upper portion, mostly rows of single crochet, a deep V-neck when fastened by the single button. But then the bottom portion is a post-stitch design, a pretty pattern, and flaring a bit. Nice design.9. Openwork Jacket, seven sizes (XS to 3X, 32.5 to 56”), bulky weight yarn, 9mm hook. An openwork coat (below knee length as shown) with three buttons, round neckline. Essentially, a very big cardigan style. You really need a nice yarn to pull off this look.10. Best Boucle’ Cardigan, three sizes, (XS/S, M/L, XL/2X) 33.5” to 51”), medium weight yarn, 6mm hook. A simple cardigan, round neck, one button at neckline, with the main interest being in the choice of yarn.11. Belted Pant Coat, seven sizes (XS to 3X, 33” to 57”), medium weight yarn, 6mm hook. Double-breasted jacket with lapels and belt loops.12. Weekend Warmer Sweater, seven sizes (XS to 3x, 31” to 61”), medium weight yarn, 4mm and 5.5mm hook. Round-neck cardigan with narrow double-button closure (sort of a modified double-breasted look) with five sets of buttons (ten total). There is a ribbed edging around the neck, hem and center closure; the body is shells and post-stitches.13. Nice Striped Vest, seven sizes (XS to 3X, 30” to 54”), light weight yarn, 4mm hook. A conventional button vest, with nice stitch definition in the stripes. Five buttons.14. Elegant Swing Coat, seven sizes (XS to 3X, 32.5” to 55.5”), medium weight yarn, 5mm hook. Gorgeous swing coat, with a fold-back neckline and flared sleeves. I am in the process of making this coat, although I am using two strands of somewhat fuzzy lace-weight mink yarn.15. Sweater with Flair, six sizes (XS to 2X, 30.5” to 53”), light weight yarn, 5mm hook. Round neck cardigan, with a shell pattern, seems to be semi-fitted in the body but then flaring at the bottom and also in the sleeves. All in all, one of the nicest crochet pattern books available, with actual pretty designs that anyone can wear, especially with the wide choice in sizes. Most are suitable for fall and winter, a few are fine for cool summer nights or spring days.I would love Lisa Gentry to do a similar book with more delicate designs, using lace, super fine and fine weight yarns and smaller hooks. It is so hard to find any nice designs in finer work.

Wow amazon!
01/08/12 I received this book in terrible condition. I paid for a new book and this one came very old and used looking. Bent in corners, scratches staines ect., I would like a new Book to be sent to me. I did notify amazon and ask for replacement, so hopefully I will update this review very soon.01/09/12 UPDATE: WOW! Amazon! I am so impressed with your speed. Just yesterday I received this book that I had to file a replacement for, today my UPS man is at the door with a new replacement for me in hand, and a pick up label ready to go! I am so impressed. This book came in great condition. I am very happy. Updating this book to a 5 star, because I really do like the content of it. I almost bought it at Michaels, but found a better price here. I especially love the Belted Pant Coat that is in this book. All of the content is very cool and exciting to make and wear.

Definitely Worth the Money!
I originally fell in love with this book when I checked it out from my public library... twice. As I looked through the patterns, I could see myself making and wearing many of the items, especially the blue button-up vest. That's my style, as are a couple of the cardigans, the swing coat, and a really cute coat with a peplum and pleats. There are only a couple of items I don't care for, but I also like the fact that I can make yarn substitutions and still come up with a beautiful project. The patterns call for yarn weights from light (3) to bulky (5), with the vast majority using medium (4) weight. Difficulty ranges from easy to intermediate. Yarn and supplier info, as well as general instructions and yarn weights are at the back of the book. Normally, I am reluctant to purchase books "sight unseen" and based only on reviews, but I'm so glad I was able to check it out before I bought it. Definitely a good buy! You will NOT be disappointed!

Beautiful Items for Today's Women Not From Grandma's Closet
I had a hard time thinking of a title for my review because I didn't want anyone that read it to think this book is like so many others on the market that "claims" to be for today's women. But this one hits the mark with beautiful items that can be worn to work or play or to church on Sunday. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star rating is since it contains only 15 patterns, there are several that claim to be "easy" and "easy+" but I think they should be rated differently because of their difficulty. Overall, I am pleased with my purchase and would encourage anyone that considers themselves to be an intermediate crocheter this book is for you.

Nice ADD to my library - GREAT SERVICE! Great copy! Happy to GET THIS BOOK!
This was a book I added to my order at Amazon because it was listed under another book I wanted to begin with. It appeared to have some nice patterns that I hope to get to making at some point, but the book itself was a cost efficient deal for the patterns and I said, "Why Not!" The patterns in it are basic and my mom always told me basic and classic lines never seem to go out of style, so listening to that advice is what sold me on the simple lines of the cover garments and others that are in it, but a nice chance to experience some various stitches. The book arrived in a nice condition and looked new. The price was very reasonable.

Gentry Hits a Home Run with Bases Loaded!
Crochet is not just a hobby for me, I also design and sell my patterns and creations. As an expert in the field of crochet, this book is a real treat! The collection offers something pretty for every season, in sizes to fit the Itsy Bitsy Girls to the Majestic Mamas among us. Size 6x is offered on almost every pattern. Not only are there great size ranges to be found inside this book, the designer gives us pretty clothes that are flattering. I want to make these and wear them!I am also very pleased with the yarn choices for this particular line. They are easy to find at my LYS and just as easy on my pocketbook. Lisa Gentry has hit a home run with me and I am sure with thousands of crocheters everywhere!

Rather uninspired designs
This book is mostly made up of cardigan and jacket patterns, and a couple of waistcoats. The patterns are clearly written and simple to follow. It's a matter of taste, but I do think that some of the patterns are particularly uninspired, and some of the things just don't look very good, even in the photos in the book. Items tend towards the cooler seasons, so no little summer tops or tunics in here. there is some variety in the patterning, necklines and openings as well as in yarn thickness. Two of the items have a strange puff sleeve, like you can see on the cover; that doesn't seem very flattering to me. The finished items are not really fashion items, you might think of them more as wardrobe staples.

15 tragbare Oberteile
