Q: Can I use this in conjunction with a foliar systemic spray? I am battling scale on outdoor potted plants and flower beds. They are winning.

It is not recommended for outdoor plants. It will work, but this pesticide is hazardous to pollinators. If your plants are not flowering plants and you are not concerned about bees, hummingbirds etc. then you can use this product. Imidacloprid is the active ingredient and can be purchased separately for outdoor plants and trees. However, just be aware of the problem with pollinators and be careful to not apply it to flowering plants. Hope this helps?

No, it would cost you too much these are for small indoor plants only. You can buy Imidacloprid drench for outdoor trees. It is still systemic and will kill bugs if they bite the leaves or trunk. We are using it on our Gardenias to eliminate the white flies. We also use it on our knockout roses. Search for Imidicloprid on Amazon you should find a bulk supplement.

Q: If the plant is in a smaller than 5" pot do you still use a whole spike?

I have not used the spike in a post less than 5", but the instructions do say to half the tablet in a 4" pot.

This product is timed-release fertilizer with a systemic insecticide. Thus, if your plants have thrips, or small bugs, whiteflies, etc. this product will eliminate the infestation while feeding your plants. It works great. Many indoor houseplants become infected with small bugs and parasites and this rids the plants of them. These bugs bite the leaves of the plant and it kills them. Problem solved.
